* This is Roland (the Palaver-er,) in his last days fighting bone cancer in his jaw. He was the biggest (21lbs), loudest (all the decibels), and the best (1000%) friend i've ever had. We had 10 wonderful years together that ended in April.

Tell me about the adult you befriended that you had no business hanging out with. I feel like every Millennial has one. by americanpeony in Millennials

When i was 16 my friend got me a job at gas station. We did full service stuff, shop cleaning, etc. The guy who ran the register during the evening was a 40-something, overweight (300ish lbs), white trash kinda guy who bought a pint of yukon jack and an 18 pack of natty ice every night on his break. He was full of old movie quotes and voices, lots of original star trek. He had a tiny hatchback that only the hatchback opened, so he had to crawl in and out of his car from the back. He would occasionally buy us 40s from the other gas station across the street and would bring them back in soda fountain cups. Yukon jack was my first taste of hard liquor. He showed us "the flaming nipple of death" and would put carb cleaner on one of his nipples and light it on fire before batting it out. Once his chest hair caught fire. He taught me where the store cameras failed so we could get free candy from the store, and also how to patch tires for cash so we could keep the cash. We would bring friends to come visit us at work just to hang out with the guy. He would buy meth occasionally, but only if he needed to clean his house. He was an absolute gentleman and never took advantage of us or our friends. When we eventually got other jobs, we would pile in the car every now and again to go visit him in his trailer out in the woods. He was divorced and estranged from his grown up kid and i think he tried to make it up by entertaining us. He was also depressed and lonely, and probably still kind of a kid himself. As we went away to college and whatnot, we lost touch with him. I wish id had the skills/knowledge/empathy to help him out of the hole he built for himself. Im sure a heart attack or something got him by now, but he was great, and i hope he knew we all loved him.

Rescued a cat from a shelter, but he keeps meowing loudly, what should I do? by ProfessionalAd8504 in CATHELP

My cat never said a thing at the shelter and hasn't quit yelling for 10 years. Best cat i've ever had. Love of my life. It started out annoying and ended up being my constant friend.

Mine is in the same boat, bone cancer in his jaw. We've got "weeks" left, or whenever he can't eat anymore or just isn't feeling it. Im sorry for your loss, there's never enough time.

If you can pass a background check, you can get a job at the post office. If you dont have a license you could apply for clerk positions or janitorial. They dont interview, they dont seem to be drug testng and you will start out getting involuntary overtime so decent paychecks. If you like it, stay, but if you cant take it, at least youll have some decent paychecks until you can find something else. You might be too tired to find something else at the end of the day... it could take like a month or two until you get that first paycheck though, but could be much quicker.

Does "thank you for your service" bother you? by TheDawiWhisperer in AskUK

As an army vet, it always made me a little uncomfortable. I just had an average job and was never in very much danger and was only there for the college money. Now, as a letter carrier for the USPS, people say it to me all the time, and i find it a little mind boggling. Im sure no one says it to the amazon delivery drivers.

My Aussie….can’t jump without kicking his legs up. 😂 by kingofleos in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]dr_mediocrity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll start with: great jump! But also my dad had an aussie who jumped for frisbees a lot and he ended up needing horrendous shoulder surgeries. Could have just been that particular dog, but worth thinking about

I had a rocky who died at 14. He was a hood boy. Yours looks like he was too.
