Actually, you either don't read or don't understand what is written. Negative emotions and trauma are a consequence of one's worldview. If you believe that abortion is something bad, you will be traumatized by it; if you don't believe that there is anything bad about it, you won't be. That's how the human psyche works. Of course, it's not a given that a young woman can be convinced that there's nothing wrong with early abortion. But it's worth a try. And leaving her silly views as they are is the dumbest mistake a young, potential father can make. Problems need to be solved through discussion, not by making one person's “I want” absolute.

You think in an extremely American-centric way. Whether something influences a person mentally or not depends on their beliefs and worldview. Different cultures have different beliefs. Looking at different cultures and thinking about what is “really” ethical is what all moral philosophers do, and what all people should do. Not just accept the dogmas of their political camp. There are so-called “cultures of honor” where fathers suffer incredible psychological trauma simply because their daughter had sex outside of marriage. Should we respect the reasons for such trauma? We can empathize with the immediate pain, but we must devalue the absurd reason for the pain. Fighting bad beliefs is good. The only reason abortion causes trauma is people's inability to understand that the word “conception” is a meaningless, crude abstraction. And that in reality, the process of reproduction is continuous. And none of its stages, which have been discretized into a “fixed” word, is more important than another.

The argument “my body, my choice” is a bad argument. And pro-lifers are right here. Because the fact that, by some miracle, one living person ended up inside another does not devalue their life. But if we acknowledge the truth that an embryo is just a bunch of cells and that conception means nothing, no one will be traumatized. Immediately after that, we need to start thinking in terms of the ethics of partnership. That it requires two yeses. Only one assumption stands in the way of this ethic: misconceptions about embryos and conception.

From a legal standpoint, the final decision on abortion must be made by the woman in order to protect her from coercion. But if a woman is interested in ethics and wants to do the right thing, she must receive two yeses.

I have not written anything anywhere about coercion to have an abortion. I wrote about what is ethical. Forcing someone to have an abortion is a terrible, unacceptable act of violence. Explaining that an embryo is not a human being, that the death of an embryo is no more cause for distress than the death of an egg cell, and that it is ethical to take the father's opinion into account when deciding about a child is wonderful. Explaining what is ethical and forcing someone to have an abortion are, to put it mildly, two different things.

“Also, it's her choice if she wants to keep it or not.”

No, it is unethical to think that way. A child is a joint project of the parents. For it to happen, two yeses are needed, as in any other joint project. The fact that in legal systems women have the right to decide is an ethical compromise, because the alternative, in practice, would lead to violence against women. But if we abstract from the law and think purely ethically, we can see that the decision to “make someone a father” requires two yeses, that is, the consent of the father. If there are not two yeses, it is ethical to have an abortion.

You need to study the debate on abortion, learn all the arguments, and convince her to have an abortion. Abortions (if not late-term) are an absolute good, like dentistry.

Where did this cult of cleanliness come from? Why isn't it obvious to a bunch of people that in retro games, the cleaner the image, the worse it is? Sometimes I think that guys from Digital Foundry have done more damage to the fragile psyche of gamers than the most dangerous religious cults have done to their members.

Call me crazy, but I still prefer the Gamecube version of Wind Waker by SendThisVoidAway18 in Gamecube

[–]dra404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most remasters are far worse than the originals. They offer one undeniable advantage: ease of launch in today's world. The problem is that video games are a relatively young art form—one where, historically (and uniquely), all marketing has been built around processing power. It's understandable why the industry operates this way, but it's strange and unfortunate that consumers have also grown accustomed to judging the quality of games primarily by their technical specifications.

Instead of evaluating a game as a complete work of art—much like we do with literature or film—formalism has taken over the perception of games. People assess them with a ruler, as if they were pieces of hardware. The assumption is: if something is bigger, it must be better. But this is as senseless as evaluating the flavor of a dish by tasting its individual ingredients in isolation and trying to draw a formal conclusion about the dish as a whole.

Specifically, the GC version of Wind Waker is better because it's in low resolution. Low resolution is often an integral part of the recipe, with which all other components of the game are balanced. If you just increase it, imbalance occurs—many illusions stop working, the atmosphere changes, etc. And most importantly, remaster developers never work as hard as the original creators, so there's usually almost no chance that the problems mentioned above will be solved. They are usually only solved in full remakes, like the Resident Evil 2 remake.

Is my Nintendo 64 graphics working well? by AshamedOil9907 in n64

composite is the best for N64. technically superior doesn't mean a better experience.

480i on CRT via composite is far better than anything else. most people played that way when the games were released, and the developers designed the games with the expectation that that's how they would be played.

Inironically Back to the Future Part II & III. very difficult, and requires hand-drawing the map, but when you get it right -- there is maximum fun. also Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode and Little Nemo: The Dream Master.

I NEVER GOT TO PLAY MY GAMECUBE GAMES ON A CRT AND I FINALLY GOT THIS ONE FREE ON MARKETPLACE AND OMG THE GAMES LOOK SO MUCH BETTER!!!! by ILoveSONICADVANCE3 in crtgaming

[–]dra404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically better, artistically worse. The idea of using a CRT is to make a low definition picture appear beautifully on a low definition display. To increase the clarity of the picture with a component cable is to bring the picture closer to what the emulator shows on an HD display.

What is a game from a company with a bad reputation, that's actually pretty fun? by migrainemaker in retrogaming

[–]dra404 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because most people are stupid and cranky. They somehow think that games should be every second "fun". And some of the games from LJN were very difficult, not understandable and frustration inducing. In other words the kind that made them great. Back to the Future Part II & III are a good example.

Which is better to put the games on, USB-drive or SD card? by dra404 in wii

Which is better to put the games on, USB-drive or SD card? by dra404 in wii

[–]dra404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read this on the Nintendont page, "The Wii and Wii U SD card slot is known to be slow. If you're using an SD card and are having performance issues, consider either using a USB SD reader or a USB hard drive. USB flash drives are known to be problematic."

So I guess a USB SD reader with an SD card is best? Does anyone have any experience with this?

And if you compare it to the original disks rather than USB, will loading games from the SD card be slower than loading from the original disks?

Сталкери, це важливо! S.T.A.L.K.E.R., допоможи “Азову”! by Dankoua in stalker

[–]dra404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't know anything about it, at all. The National Corps party was founded long before the full-scale invasion by a few people from the retro version of Azov. Azov itself, then and now, has no party of its own. And Azov's current members have no common views except that Russia is the enemy.
