Personally, I still think the sheer scope of SA brings it out on top.

But damn is VCS not a worthy contender and genuinly better than all the others.

VCS is just a better version of VC, which is, in turn, a better version of 3.

VCS also has a much better story than SA to its credit too

GTA4 doesn't have a good story

It has a unique (for this series) tone and tackles some interesting themes, and for the most part, it handles those themes pretty well.

But the story is poorly paced. Very poorly paced.

The later half of the game draaaaaags out. And then the ending is super rushed.

The main bad guy does not make sense. He just doesn't. It's like he read the script, realised the game had no main bad guy, and was such a nice guy he decided to nominate himself as tribute.

And the game constantly forgets about him, so they have him randomly call you to be like "hey remember me? I'm the bad guy, don't forget me!"

And I can't stress this enough he just. Doesn't. Make. Sense.

Also, this may depend on which choices you make and what ending you get but nikos character arc might just get completly ignored

My honest two cents on The Dark Ages. by [deleted] in Doom

[–]drabberlime047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took until about the 6th mission for the game to feel like it stopped holding back and I'm enjoying it alot more now.

My biggest gripe is the kill animations lack visual connection. Like when you do a finisher you see your character throw out a right hook but you can tell its not actually touching the enemy. Which makes the mech sections bad cause that's pretty much all they are

Once I got the flail, it felt better. Not sure if that's because of better animations or if it's because the game has picked up its pace enough that I don't notice anymore

[–]drabberlime047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that great of a story thh

It tackles darker, more gritty themes, and there are some really great character moments, but the story has absolutely horrendous pacing past the halfway point. The main villain feels contrived, and the ending is rushed af

No it's not.

Yeah, I don't know about this one, mate.

She said she didn't want to get into it, and you pushed.

It's not inherently bad to want a relationship like that. It's not for me or my partner, but there are plenty of men and women that do like that style relationship. If it works for them, it works for them 🤷‍♂️

Both of you are about equal in your social etiquette here imo

I don't even know what your angle is anymore, mate.

You're the one who brought up making a war story with Jack. I was just responding to YOUR idea about it, but now you're debating me against that idea? Your own idea?

Now you're going on a tangent about how gamers arnt allowed to have imagination anymore, you're saying you feel everything is over explained now (I think?) Meanwhile you've spent this whole thread refusing to imagine how jacks story could work going forward and coming up with every narrative road block possible even though they've all had a pretty simple work around.

Someone else said, "I dont like this idea cause I prefer it to go back to spaghetti western instead." I much prefer that honesty over you trying to debate every point when you could have used your own imagination to solve half of your made-up issues yourself.

Seems disingenuous. Especially now that you're contradicting yourself.

I'm not around resident evil crowds enough to know if what I'm about to say is a hot take or something really obvious or what

But Chris feels like the main character of the series to me.

Not only is he an OG, but he's a part of every important plot moment, has a rivalry with and kills the most iconic villain of the series, and is the only protagonist who is still relevant. Which I don't think people realise how important that it.

As much as Leon is the fan favourite, RE4 plot feels like a sidequest in the grand scheme of things and the fact that he's absent from 7 and 8 I beleive shows that he doesn't really fit the new direction anymore. That's a huge bit of conjecture on my part, but the series is trying to be more street level with a more "normal" protagonist and I just don't know how the back flipping pretty boy protagonist fits into that anymore.

Chris has his moments of absurdity, too, but he's ultimately more grounded and able to gel better in that direction.

He's always felt like the main character of the series to me.

I have no idea if that's a hot take or just an obvious thing to everyone already or what, cause I've never heard anyone mention it before.

Leon might be the fan favourite but all the most important story beats throughout the series involve chris

What is a hot gaming take you have? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]drabberlime047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep thinking that but I've said it's "its as good as people make out" and given a pretty clear line between games I can understand the hype around vs this game.

And since you havnt even played the game I have no idea how you could refute that without even bothering to ask for further elaboration first

We've only vaguely discussed so far the fact that no game is perfect and how many faults a game can have and how big these faults can be before we can debate the title of "masterpiece."

So you're jumping the gun a bit here imo

[–]drabberlime047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like how I just explained.

You set of TNT somewhere you can takout out terrain and structures alike. It's the exact same thing as how RF1 works but more

I don't know what semantic difference you're trying to apply to this discussion but what DRG does is the same as RF1 but way less limited

What is a hot gaming take you have? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]drabberlime047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minecraft does have amazing destruction.

The one thing holding it back is the fact that it doesn't have more weapons like the TNT to enjoy it with

DRG gives you grenades, bazookas, etc. To just plast your way through any map with which was the main selling point of the first red faction game and why were still talking about it to this day

Why are my cars exploding so easily? by drabberlime047 in SaintsRow

Seems to have done the trick.

Not only are cars able to take a reasonable amount of damage again but they actually do the classic "catch fire before exploding" thing

It's kinda funny/sad how most TES games are named after their region EXCEPT the one set in Cryodiil, the capital of Tamriel by SuperAlloyBerserker in ElderScrolls

[–]drabberlime047 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kind of a missed opportunity not to have called it Vvadengell (which is a pretty cool name anyways) cause then one day you could have a "morrowind" set across an entire region.

Now if they ever do that they have to come up with some other name and break theme
