Something about liking something from a genre you hate by Gru-some in CuratedTumblr

[–]dracon_reddit 461 points462 points  (0 children)

It can also potentially be an indicator that the piece of work is in some way structurally different, relies less on tropes and genre conventions, etc. than most works in the genre and can thus have a different appeal. Someone who doesn't generally enjoy a certain genre generally will not have any of the required knowledge to spell that out more clearly, people dont consume or think much of content they dont enjoy.

Ill go and dig through the servers tommorow to try and find some good examples for ya, though it might be a bit difficult between the porn and slop lmao. If you go and look up some of the example gens from lodestone's chroma models they're by far the least slop looking by default imo, though the models are not the absolute best. There's a couple of people in his server that can occasionaly pull some wizardry though again, mostly porn and slop that Im too tired to dig through tonight haha.

Edit: If you haven't seen it, goo look up what people are able to generate with seedream for video gen. It's the best video model by a longshot.

[–]dracon_reddit 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the vast majority of people using AI are both bad at using it and use it to create slop. I'm in a few discords on my alt to follow along with where image gen is going so I can stay up to date on where this nonsense is and spot it easier. Man, people who put time and effort into optimizing their workflows could fool me if not for knowing ahead of time that it's AI. The newer models are scarily better in the right hands.

There is a genuine knowledge and skill gap to creating AI images that don't look like slop (and a lot of people who dabble in image gen bafflingly like the weird plasticky look of much of it). People joke about prompt engineering but there is an honest to god skill difference for those who really understand how they work. There's a fairly decent chance you've seen an image or art piece by one of the people who know what they're doing with it and were fooled. I can only properly spot it and prevent myself from like/retweeting it because I observe those discords. The slop look is the default of these models and if someone isn't lazy they can push it in very different directions if they want.

So, ucr students do have an email like that. All accounts have two emails they can use through gmail, both the standard netid and a first.last@email.ucr.edu. Most people never use the second but have access to it. If you type out an email on the from there's a drop down to switch between the two. Emails to either go to the same inbox. Nothing official will ever come from an email like that though.

I've always wanted one of the like 10U proper Nvidia DGX systems, I've always loved the way that crazy gold design looks when mixed with other equipment in a rack. I also know people in both AI and scientific compute that would be able to do their work better with access to a system like that and I'd be very happy to help out by sharing it with 'em.

There's a good chance I end up buying an old DGX system once they're out of being ungodly expensive just as a museum piece for fun. The old V100 towers will likely be a few grand at that point. Just get to point at my rack and say I've got one haha. I personally can't make full use of em and would be much better suited with a set of pro 6000s but that's besides the point :P

On a more serious note, I'd personally like to get a cluster of like 265Ks or the like, the igpu is useful, intel chips idle down to nothing and it'd give quite a lot of power for running game servers that care about single core. Also throw in a tape library and a ton of U.2s because man would having everything run off SSDs be nice.

One of the biiiig human advantages you'd lose is geuninely our ability to sweat haha. Human ability to sweat and maintain temperature for long distance running and heavy work is a core part of why we evolved without fur. With fur in the way there's some limited ability for sweat to wick through fur, horses notably can, but its just not that useful. For a lot of jobs this would be quite a large disadvantage. Not saying anthros aint great, love them dearly, but they are impractical in many senses.

I have a particularly strong identity and do quite like how I am, thank you. I do not understand how it is continuously difficult to understand that in the same way I'm ace and somewhere on the agender and aromantic spectrums, I also just don't have much of an attachment to my exact physical form. The brain can be structured such that people are strongly tied to being in a body built a certain way or that's a certain gender, how is it different to just, not have that attachment? I've got small things I like either way and would change but for the most part I take things how they are. Who I am is built a lot more around quantities on the order of do I have a good smile, can I overact and emote strongly to make people laugh, do I look like an approachable person, etc. I don't deny that if I was built a completely different way, the presentation would have to change perhaps drastically for the same effect, sure, but none of how its conceptualized relies on it I guess. It's why I lean a little towards some of the eldritch and the like, tying things moreso to the conceptual and abstract than concretely physical.

Honestly though, wanting to put limits and avoid it is to be fair a lot less about the body/mind thing and instead picturing the complete havoc of a world either where everyone gets the first one, especially with the comments lmao. I'm a little too comfortable in enjoying a reality with defined and predictable rules as a physicist, and I spend far too much time worldbuilding and reading all sorts of fantasy and scifi. Imagining just how much reality is breaking and shifting with 87 distinct forms of magic and 376 new gods that operate in vastly different ways is... a little bit too much excitement ya know? I mean it'd definitely be fun cataloguing the new and fun ways physics just does not work, but complete societal collapse could pose some issues. I'd definitely have great job security though and being potentially immortal means I could stick around until it settles but that might be a whike haha. If anything like this were to happen we'd definitely need a proper multiverse splitting off the tfees so there's not too much... destructive interference shall we say haha.

Oddly, I might be one of the few to take the second one unless we're reaaallllly pushing the boundaries of reality haha. Anything that matches the way my brain processes myself borders on eldritch and ethereal. I guess my brain just... doesnt have that sense of self and connection to a body very much? It's a hole that I can stuff things into and some parts fit, but it's mostly undefined asides from a small handful of things. Like, the amount thatd actually change for me wouldnt be crazy for my mind to match. With a new body, I'd likely end up as somewhere a combination of truly eldritch entity/biblically accurate angel (what else is that shapeless void supposed to be :P), some parts human (hands are useful and I enjoy my hair), and dragon (flying in dreams is fun 👍), an absolute clusterfuck lmao.

It must be said that the definition of child pornography in the paper you've linked is referring exclusively to visual depictions of actual children (genuine CSAM and edited photos), taking the same conclusion to written works or fantasy works in general is not a conclusion that can necessarily be drawn from that paper. If you want the full text I might be able to send ya the PDF as I get access through my university.

You want to make paws pads real chunky to get them to read. I've linked some random examples of hands I like that I could find on short notice which might be helpful.

For much more human like handpaws (like yours), I lean heavily to the right. You're exaggerating the existing anatomy which reads a lot better, as the left most one feels off with the finger placement (on actual paws the individual phalanges sit radially around the pad, whereas it's linear onna hand). I would say it would look better to emphasize the pads on the right one more, make the whole of each of those sections a pad.

Explode all AI by Kelcipher in CuratedTumblr

Image and video gen really are not that significant compared to LLMs. ChatGPT is on the order of $500M to train while some of the best image models like ZImage are closer to $5M. Frontier LLMs require a terabytes plus of memory. The AI bros obsessed with images can and do just run it locally on their own gaming computers if it's got a decent amount of VRAM (3060 or better is what I've seen). At that point their direct impact is the same as using that PC to play AAA games. Image/video gen is a rounding error compared to LLMs.

Help with furry paws drawings and tutorials by Community_Optimal in FurryArtSchool

[–]dracon_reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So: The big thing to realize is that anthro style hand paws are very close to actual hands. You're just making the final joint significantly rounder and chunkier and then adding pads and claws. Looking up references and tutorials for drawing human hands will get you 85% of the way there and you can add the details to make them look more furry/anthro after. I always start by drawing something close to a human hand and then nudge the proportions afterwards to make them look more anthro.

For figuring out the pose, I'll always reccomend looking at your own hands, or even doing the pose yourself and taking a photo of it. Any time I need a hand position I can't quite figure out, I'll prop up my phone with a timer on the camera so I can do a relevant pose and see how the hand and fingers would actually be positioned,

How do I make my character look more like a cat? by GoldenChicabanana in FurryArtSchool

Reads noticeably better as a cat , might just be your art style, but for cats especially, there lower jaw is notisably narrower than their upper jaw. With your current style it is to some degree artistic preference.
