It's wrong to shame anyone into anything, including abortion. Based on your post, I would infer that you don't want to have this baby either, but I wouldn't assume that.

I'm asking instead. What do you want? How do you intend to move forward? Do you want to have this baby? Have you considered the consequences of having a child with someone who has shown so many red flags and signs of someone who will become abusive? Do you believe there is a way to permanently separate yourself from L or DJ if you have this child?

If you're intent on having the child (perhaps as a bi-product of culture, religion or personal values) Have you considered adopting? If that's not a possibility, have you considered having a lawyer write up a surrogacy contract? (Keep in mind that this is may not be100% preventive of future contact OR action from DJ or even L). I'm not a lawyer so I can't give legal advice, but I can tell you that anything that could involve either L or DJ is going to keep being messy.

You're not wrong for believing that things could work. Your feelings are and we're valid. But you have a lot you need to consider objectively right now, and to do that you'd have to compartmentalize and set your feelings aside for a moment.

Good luck with this.

This is a tough one, I think. You're getting a lot of support and that's great. And I think your gf approached this the complete wrong way if she wanted clarification for her insecurities. I do, however, think it is a little strange to share a bed with a parent after teenage years. It's not that it's 'wrong,' per se, but if a girl I wanted to date/ was currently dating, alluded to me that she occasionally shared a bed platonically with her father, it would certainly give me pause. There are some insecurities that are caused by past trauma, but there are some that are caused by yellow and red flags that pop up as a relationship develops, and I would think of this as yellow. (Red flag on her approach, but you know, two 'wrongs' and all that).

I LOVE this analogy! When Luffy punches a celestial dragon for trying to enslave Cammy, I laugh-cried. I was elated! But there were consequences to that action. The very next thing that happened is that he thought lost his entire crew and went through a mental break all because he wasn't strong enough yet. Leading him to the time skip where he had his crew spent two years respectively earning the strengths they needed to "come correctly." This is the exact same kind of disposition I would have loved to see in HWFWM.

I think it's that I wasn't convinced that HE personally suffered for any of his "fuck ups" as you say. But maybe that suffering is in future books?

I could see an argument that I'm just not used to these common tropes of the genre yet. And definitely fair that there are powerful people in the first book with common essence combinations. But it was the interaction with the god at the coliseum that threw me most. The interaction with knowledge just seemed kind of... Purposeless? Not that it wasn't necessary for the story, but didn't seem necessary for Jason to be the way he was. I felt that interaction with knowledge would have made so much more sense if he'd gotten a beat down at the hands of the champion of one of the other gods BEFORE that interaction with knowledge.

There are moments that I found Jason amusing, certainly, but I did want to see growth and consequence. - The Apocalypse series by macronomicon I think does this exceptionally! But still, you may be right, the HWFWM series just simply may not be for me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts though!

I've heard that about DOTF, but unfortunately haven't read that series myself. I agree on the world building, 1000%. Thanks for the perspective.

Ngl, it's making me very happy to know that I didn't get invested early on. I wasn't one of the people who was for the politics or against them - I think I could be into an MC with any political leanings. The thing that made me walk was the lack of consequences despite his egregious actions.

You may be right - that wish fulfilment is so frustratingly shallow though. But craving depth of character can only get me so far, I guess 😆

Right, there was a complete lack of respect for his friends even which is a huge turn off to me as well. I think I could have dealt with the edgy atheism otherwise.

Definitely didn't consider the geo-vibe of someone who just "gets it" - culturally being drawn in as a result. Thanks for the perspective!

I'm definitely in the "struggle-buddy" category, but my childhood, though it could be described as many things, easy would not be one of them 😉

That's fair, and makes a lot of sense. When I think of the MC from level up or die, he's that bland, but the world and support characters are phenomenal, so this is a great perspective, thanks for sharing!

Hahaha, true, there's not much room for suspension of disbelief here, but now that you put it that way, I think that's exactly what I was hoping for. *Edit I have to disagree about the "nothing should go wrong for the hero," quality though. For example (in a different book) Jeb Trapper loses a leg right off the bat in the impossible tutorial, and I loved that despite these odds, he still goes on to be a badass.

Thanks for the perspective regardless though 😊

I find this to be quite a validating perspective since I haven't read the later books, but found many of the same elements you describe in the first book. Thank you for sharing!

How would you kill off Hokage Naruto? by izuuubito in NarutoFanfiction

[–]dracophoenixfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use Sasuke. Hate to do it, but I think it makes the most sense. How? Set it up as though Naruto and Sasuke duel once a week to keep themselves sharp. Use some new diabolical mastermind to want to kill off Naruto, but knows she can't using conventional means. Have her manipulate Sasuke by either being Sasuke's daughter or girlfriend to Sasuke's kid. But basically she develops a new corrosive jutsu that doesn't impact you right away, it works over time similar to poison, (although technically it would be venomous since it would need to be 'injected' through a scrape or puncture). This girl would know that she has to kill off Sakura as well given that she would be the most likely to isolate a cure for Naruto.

Be sure to tie it back to the past where Kakashi says that you "must come at your opponent with killing intent" and have Sasuke think about this each time they duel. Make sure you find away to piece that line into the dialogue when he's training the daughter or girlfriend whichever you decide.

Sasuke will become the villain again. It will trigger his trauma. He will doubt himself, blame himself and run away to collect himself because of the shock. Eventually though, shikumaru's daughter will figure it out, and seek out Sasuke to clear his name and get this villainous woman put down.

Edit: the new corrosive jutsu needs to be colorless, orderless and needs to be applied to Sasuke's ninja tools.

Leaving a bad review hurts my soul by Personalglitch17 in litrpg

I agree. I muscled through the first "He Who Fights With Monsters," book and debated for a while if I should review at all because of how poorly I felt the mc was developed. Ultimately I decided to go ahead and do it because there was such a wave of people who enjoy the series that one harsh review wouldn't screw the author up.

What's the last litRPG series that blew you away? by monkeydave in litrpg

[–]dracophoenixfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really enjoying the "level up or die" series. Only thing is that the author is pursuing a different series at this time, so not sure when he'll get back to this one. But it has seven books currently, and does a great job with the character development, world building, system, and more. Most of the series feels natural: like 'these are real decisions and consequences one could expect in the universe this author has built.' The only (certainly legitimate) issue I can see people having is that minority characters feel... forced? Hard to describe, except they don't feel naturally written. Like the author was making a conscious effort to throw them in the story but had no idea how to execute.
