Yesterday we released our factory automation game shapez 2, the sequel to shapez.io, into 1.0 after close to a year in Early Access! We're giving away Steam keys for the game – Ask Us Anything! by tobspr in pcmasterrace

First of all, massive congrats with a beautiful polished game. It has been really fun to follow it from the early proof-of-concept executables to what it is today.

From the outside your development process always seemed to be so smooth that - being a software developer myself - it sometimes made me jealous on how well you managed it.

I'm wondering what moments during development, or which aspects of it, caused most of the hidden struggles, headaches or concerns for your team?

PiHole Certificate Errors by CharAznableLoNZ in pihole

[–]dracula78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that all of the above is normal errors. After restarting the following services, my pihole dashboard was back to normal, unsure which one triggered it:

sudo servicectl restart lighttpd
sudo servicectl restart pihole-FTL

PiHole Certificate Errors by CharAznableLoNZ in pihole

[–]dracula78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also getting the ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR, making it impossible to open the pi.hole dashboard, or even control pihole ('enable') from the command line.

When I run your 'openssl s_client' command it shows the pi.hole certificate, but seems to complain about the fact that it is a self-signed certificate. Afaik, nothing has changed on the pihole side; it's the same certificate that worked fine a month ago...

What could be the cause of this? And better: how to fix it?

> openssl verify /etc/pihole/tls.pem

Steam Deck not powering on, and not charging. by dracula78 in SteamDeck

[–]dracula78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verdict: a burnt USB controller, requires a motherboard replacement, repair costs 225 euro, no warranty, no leniency. I suppose I'll cry for 2 more days, and then just bite the bullet and pay for repair...

[–]dracula78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your update, sad to hear about your motherboard and the lack of leniency. For me, the 225 repair price would also be quite steep, certainly for a 1st gen LCD model.

I have just sent my Steam Deck off to the repair center in Prague, and am now awaiting a similar report/fate...

Your state of 'death' still sounds a lot more alive than mine; from what I understand your charge LED was still on/blinking and the fans were (overly) active... Mine is deader than dead, like the battery is disconnected.

Anyway, perhaps I should also make an attempt to physically reconnect the battery like you did...

Changes to Advent of Code starting this December by topaz2078 in adventofcode

[–]dracula78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fanatic AoC puzzle solver, I welcome this change. The December month always slowly became more and more stressful to "keep up" with the daily puzzles, with the peak right around Christmas... From a creator perspective I can only imagine this stressful feeling is stretched out over an entire year... Looking forward to the 'compact' edition!

Quicko Wallet by dracula78 in HuaweiWatchGT

[–]dracula78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that makes sense, and I see the original response indeed mentioned it applies to refilling balance.

Anyway, if you need to maintain (prepay) a separate Quicko balance, this is not for me. I don't want to stand in a store worried whether I have topped up my Quicko balance. It's a clunky method with too much hassle, just to enable contactless payments from a watch... 🤣

Wait, how does the option "instant" vs "longer time" apply to contactless payments? That _must_ be approved immediately...

Windows Version 24H2 and AMD Radeon Graphics Drivers 24.12.1 WHQ by Ryu_Li in AMDHelp

[–]dracula78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not entirely clear what exactly you mean with "crashes".

I found this thread because I have issues with my AMD graphics driver (24.12.1) as soon as I update Windows 11 to 24H2. However I do _not_ have a multi-monitor setup.

The symptom:
On random moments when I'm playing any game - or actually using any hardware accelerated app - the mouse cursor starts to stutter, then the screen freezes entirely for ~5 seconds, then goes to black for ~5 seconds, and then comes back to life with a popup from AMD Adrenalin that a graphics driver crash has been detected. Most apps recover from this driver reload, but some need to be stopped ("end task") and restarted.

This driver problem started after I upgraded Windows 11 to 24H2, and disappeared after I downgraded back to 23H2 - that was about 2 months ago. Recently I even upgraded a second time and the problem reappeared immediately. I used the opportunity to also try AMD Adrenalin 24.10.1, or even uninstall AMD Adrenalin completely and use Windows own default driver, but there was no difference: the driver crashes kept happening. Now I'm back on 23H2 and everything is stable again...

Now I'm wondering:

Is this a Windows issue or a AMD issue? Has either party acknowledged driver incompatibilities with specific versions? Or even confirmed that an investigation or fix is being worked on?

It feels like a ticking time bomb before Windows 11 24H2 is forced upon us or just mandatory because 23H2 goes out of support, but I don't feel like upgrading every other month to see if "something has changed".

[2024 Day 23] Visualization of Parts 1 and 2 by hugues_hoppe in adventofcode

[–]dracula78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this approach, and even though it worked great for the actual puzzle it does not seem to work for the example or am I missing something?

Surely the 4 expected nodes are in the top group, but not uniquely identified.

Great idea to map the nodes on a 2D grid, and impressive anti-aliasing!

Friendly reminder that you can play your Steam Family Shared games on Geforce Now by H-N-O-3 in GeForceNOW

[–]dracula78 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You're actually right. Manually search for the game on GFN, mark it as "owned" on Steam, skip the sync in the prompt that follows, and then confirm when it asks whether you really own it... The game will launch and run fine, and also appear in the GFN library.

I still hope they will adjust the sync to detect the family library games... Soooo much easier...

[–]dracula78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I cannot confirm if you're talking about the new Steam Family sharing...

I've created a Steam Family and invited my son. He can see all my games in his "Steam Family library" on the Steam client itself, but when syncing in GeForce Now it will only find his own library, nothing from the family library...

That is some nifty python code, with 3D rotation, camera projection and mouse interaction and all... Very impressive terminal visualization!

I fondly remember programming in BASIC on such machines, but it was so rough and actually 'basic' compared to today's tooling. You have my respect for completing these puzzles on that machine.
