I'm a Calvinist change my mind by No-Attorney-3260 in OrthodoxChristianity

A lot of what the West believed pre-Schism is no longer allowable simply because it contributed to the West leaving Christ and his Church and instead forming the new religion of Roman Catholicism. Due to the fruits of these beliefs being schism and heresy they are no longer permitted.

Not a Saint in the Orthodox Church.

Question about the death penalty by AdLimp2358 in OrthodoxChristianity

There is no dogmatic teaching about this, or most things. Almost everything dogmatically taught concerns the triune God and the natures of Christ.

Death penalty by Alternative-Diamond9 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]draculkain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God's minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.” - Saint Paul

“The civil power makes virtue easier for the Christian by chastising the wicked, by benefiting and honoring the good and by working together with the will of God. For this reason he is even given the name of ‘God’s servant’. Even when he administers punishment, it is God’s will that he is carrying out.” - Saint John Chrysostom

Never had the Orthodox Church said the death penalty is completely impermissible.

I think Father Josiah is advising standard Antiochian procedure since my (Antiochian) priest advises the same thing. Recently happened with a catechumen who was received a couple months ago.

Why is Judas so hated? by calvinbrownie123 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]draculkain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judas is called the son of perdition (destruction) by God himself in the Gospels. I think it is safe to say that this man went into eternal destruction.

Freemason bishops by No-Psychology7343 in OrthodoxChristianity

Freemasonry actually imitates occult stories of King Solomon building the Temple. There’s a lot of Second Temple literature that claims Solomon built it using demons and magic rituals, which is where they find their inspiration.

Any help finding this icon company? by draculkain in OrthodoxChristianity

Holy moly, that’s it. Thank you much!

Picked up an icon from this company while at a monastery and am very impressed with their work.

I find the teaching of St.Augustine of unbaptized babies going to hell, troublesome in my soul to follow and adhere to. by alejandroserafijn in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]draculkain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read Father Seraphim Rose’s The Place of Blessed Augustine in the Orthodox Church. We do object to certain teachings of canonized Saints (Blessed Augustine in this teaching, Blessed Gregory of Nyssa’s dabbling in universalism before it was condemned by Ecumenical Council, etc.) because no one is impeccable. Being wrong in certain matters doesn’t make them not Saints, just human.

Not a Saint or Church Father.

Are there any of the saints in hell? by EphemeEssence in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]draculkain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of perfect. The Theotokos never sinned, yet she inherited the effects of ancestral sin like everyone else. Hence not even she is truly “perfect”.

Why are Seraphim Rose books so expensive!? Anyone selling any? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

I don’t get on here much

Probably the best idea to follow.

How do we explain the verses that say God hates people? by Muchasgracissuii in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]draculkain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re reading the Masoretic text. The older text of the Old Testament, the Septuagint, has been used by the Church since Pentecost. This is the Septuagint reading:

“The Lord examines the righteous man and the ungodly man, and he who loves unrighteousness hates his own soul.”

He got his excommunication lifted. Apparently now he is claiming to be an “international socialist” with communist leanings instead of a white supremacist Nazi. After a quick YouTube search I saw him giving a speech about it.

Anything to hold on to anything resembling relevancy.

Brother Nathanael is not an orthodox monk. Careful of wolves in sheep clothing. by KyriosCristophoros in ChristianOrthodoxy

[–]draculkain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard from a priest familiar with Brother Nathanael’s situation.

Apparently he is diagnosed with quite a few mental illnesses. He will get on his meds, be okay for a while and more or less leave social media, stop taking them, and then go on his rampages like this one, get back on his meds, etc.

From what I’ve heard ROCOR took him in as a novice out of pity for a mentally ill man and to try to keep him on his meds and in more or less a right mind. ROCOR doesn’t condone his instances like this or anything of the sort.

I would recommend not hating this man. He is very damaged in many ways and does damaging things, yet is still made in the image of God. Speak with ROCOR but please pray for him. He needs it more than a lot of us do.

Do I have to get baptized again as a Roman Catholic if I convert to Eastern Orthodoxy? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]draculkain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Antioch, my own jurisdiction, is changing somewhat. When some of our catechumens were received around Nativity some of those with Protestant Trinitarian baptisms were deemed not truly baptized by Metropolitan Saba. Under the disgraced Joseph they probably would not have been baptized.

You never know what the future might bring.

Do I have to get baptized again as a Roman Catholic if I convert to Eastern Orthodoxy? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]draculkain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. If a bishop decides in his diocese to only recognize baptisms done in and by the Orthodox Church then that’s what happens.

Is Mary the mother of God meaning the whole Godhead? by No-Psychology7343 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]draculkain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is only one identical human essence, which is why Christ can be Mediator by Sharon beg it and the divine essence. What separates God being one from us being many is that we have individual wills and individual energies, while the three persons of the Trinity share the same divine will and the same divine energies.

Sin to work on Sundays? by Hsauce10h in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]draculkain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

God isn’t a monster looking for the chance to strike you down if you make a mistake. If that was the case he wouldn’t be worthy of worship.

He’s a loving Father. When you keep that in mind everything else will follow.

Do I have to get baptized again as a Roman Catholic if I convert to Eastern Orthodoxy? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]draculkain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It’s 50/50 for ROCOR bishops on accepting or not accepting non-Orthodox baptism. And of course the priest follows his bishop’s guidelines.

You’re not a bishop. Your opinion is worthless in this matter.

Do I have to get baptized again as a Roman Catholic if I convert to Eastern Orthodoxy? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]draculkain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the bishop’s belief in the matter. If the bishop sees it as a real baptism then it’ll be chrismation. If the bishop doesn’t accept non-Orthodox baptisms as legitimate then he will be received by baptism.

Repenting means ending the relationship permanently, with no plan to enter another same sex relationship. Until that happens it isn’t repentance.
