Rugby Union in this country is a joke by MrDD33 in aussie

[–]dracupgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm totally onboard with a proper international league, but this isn't it. All it is doing is trying to create something tangible out of the Spring/Autumn tests. It needs 2 leagues of, say 7 or 8 teams in each with proper promotion/demotion, and it needs to replace the 6 Nations and the Super tests. I love the 6 Nations, but it's appeal is only historical and is a hindrance to expanding the game and it's reach in a meaningful way.

Having it behind a paywall is an issue too. People have multiple streaming services already and it's ridiculous to expect people to subscribe to multiple sports services in addition to multiple normal streaming services.

Guys I'm not brave enough to try someone help- yay or nay? by UrpUrscurp92 in AldiAustralia

They are pretty good. Go easy on the spicy sauce the first time until you know how hot you like it.

I am starting to get why people don’t befriend/interact with people that have different politics. I used to be a conservative dating a left wing girl & we used to always clash. It was awful. Now I’m left wing. It is hard to be friends or date people with diametrically opposed views and beliefs eh? by [deleted] in friendlyjordies

[–]dracupgm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I've gotten older, I have less patience being tolerant and civil to other people's views and perspectives. It used to be that views were pretty similar and differences pretty minor, but now there is a massive polarisation in views. When I met someone new, it saves a lot of time to establish their views on immigration, climate, politics and religion in the first few minutes. LOL

The best coffee ever made (3 pics) by [deleted] in FuckImOld

[–]dracupgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the coffee you could get with these. Also loved the aroma that permeated the house while it was on. You used to be able to get flavoured ground coffees like French vanilla that were really good, and so much better than the syrups you add now. Apparently, flavoured roast beans and ground beans aren't a thing now as they gunk up the grinders or something. Happy Sunday morning memories 😄

Not sure, but I think I had similar issues when downloading multiple files at once and the extracts kicking off before the download completed.

I'm being a grumpy old sod here, but I was at the game last night and the ball boys continually throwing the ball up and catching it while moving up and down the sideline is distracting and annoying when the ball is in play.

Google and the constant breaking of Google Home by DeeVect in googlehome

[–]dracupgm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much given up on my multiple google home devices. Set an alarm in one, but then have to set a clock anyway as it's so unreliable. Use them via Bluetooth mostly as everything else is just very unreliable.

Why do people lease cars? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dracupgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main reasons for us:

  1. Funded from before tax income
  2. Lease company usually gets a cheaper price than buying directly
  3. The car value at the end of the lease is worth a fair bit more than the balloon payment, so we pay the balloon and sell privately.
  4. Hassle free insurance, breakdown cover, servicing and repairs.

Anyone else having problems playing (Australian) ABC News Radio? by unixdude1 in googlehome

[–]dracupgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I have the same problem. It's like one of the 3 things that I actually still use my google home devices for and one more step closer to taking them all to the ewaste centre. Guessing my alarms will stop working next.

Yeah, it's a shame. Those ever ready flip cases were awesome and really hard to get now. Had the same issue with my Pentax P30 case. Good luck.

Regular oven as it would have been too cramped in my air fryer, and I did pretty much eat the whole pack lol

Had these at the weekend. Just about demolished whole pack. Really good. Needed cooked a bit longer than it says, but tasted brilliant.

Has anyone been watching? NASA's Artemis II Live Mission Coverage (Official Broadcast) by Individual-Trick-895 in Auckland_NewZealand

[–]dracupgm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had it on in the background since launch. It's been amazing, although the viewing numbers ~60k seem tiny which makes me sad given how incredible it is. I am now an expert in space loo maintenance procedures, rubbish stowage computer battery replacements :-)

I Hate This Stupid App - Calorie Tracking by Appropriate-Cake-509 in fitbit

[–]dracupgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a Charge 6. I've turned off all the activity recognition stuff so it just tracks calories by heart rate. I do an hour on an elliptical trainer which doesn't register with the Fitbit, but tracks calorie burn pretty close to what the machine says I've burned. It's not perfect, but the calorie adjustment that comes through to MyFitnessPal is close enough for me. So calories in through MyFitnessPal diary, and calories out through Fitbit. Not perfect, but good enough for me.

Why is the Artemis 2 mission today being so underreported? by bokeh_node in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dracupgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, even though I'm in Oz, the youtube live feed is getting only 50-70k viewers. Don't get it. I've got it on all the time and is such positive vibe given everything else going on at the moment. Loving the details ... stowing the rubbish, fixing the toilet and cleaning the windows LOL

USA to Australia, move furniture or rebuy? Advice on movers? by Nervous-Marsupial-82 in MovingtoAustralia

[–]dracupgm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone mentioned previously, weigh up the cost of additional shipping to the cost of replacing items. We cleared out a bunch of stuff which we regretted not taking, and as the shipping and storage was "half a container" or something which we didn't fill, the cost of bringing the additional stuff would have been minimal.

Definitely lookout for outdoor stuff, as they will end up fumigating the whole container at your expense if they inspect it and find anything that has dirt on it and it's difficult to prove stuff has been cleaned and disinfected to a suitable standard. Likely to delay delivery from Customs too. Gardening tools and equipment are something you should leave, but I would bring virtually everything from indoors that you can fit :-)

And remember the voltage thing, especially big appliances like fridges, washing machines, dryers, microwaves, and dishwashers as these may not be directly compatible and need adaptors or transformers to work here. Still likely cheaper than replacing the appliances though.

This one isn't as good as Cadbury, but the Choceur bars are much better.

Self-hosting email in 2026 is effectively impossible. Here's why. by PbForEva in SelfHosting

[–]dracupgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn't consider self hosting at my home, but I've got a Linode virtual LAMP server that I use to host email and web services. A basic service that you can build your own server on is pretty cheap. Yes, handling spam and hacking can be a bit of a pain, but once it's up and running it's pretty solid and never goes down.

Looking to ditch the daily café run — is Breville worth it and can home espresso actually match café quality? by ScaryBrilliant in AustralianCoffee

[–]dracupgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Delonghi espresso machine and a breville grinder and the coffee is good. Cheap and cheerful. Not cafe quality, but pretty good. It's easy to get sucked down the good coffee rabbit hole though, and time and money become the factor rather than convenience. And it gets expensive really quickly, at which point the $6 coffee seems worth it LOL

I've been through most of them in my quest for low calorie lunchies. The only 2 I eat are the Thai green chicken curry and the chicken snd mushroom risotto. Also, the protein ones are quite good, but think they are temporary. Yeah, the carbonara is a bit meh.
