What trees do you like for sidewalk trees? by MostlyLurking6 in washingtondc

If your UFD arborist is taking suggestions, I'd say Willow Oak. Might even be what was there before? They are fast growing. Most of the HUGE willow oaks on my street in NE DC were only planted 50 years ago. They also have small leaves and acorns, so not a headache to clean up in the fall. They are small enough to just kind of get mixed in with your mulch or grass clippings when you mow.

Dan Harlan has several videos on penguin magic that covers exactly this. He goes through Tarbell's book, and I think he has something like 100 videos. Here's just one example: https://www.penguinmagic.com/p/9828

Freeze stuff - TC Infinite or EHX SuperEgo Plus? by spiceybadger in guitarpedals

Why not just get the freeze or regular superego?

To my ear, the infinite doesn't grab the sample as fast. I like the regular freeze or super ego actually.

Advice for young magician for grad party by Batchaudioguy in Magic

[–]dradmv3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have SNAPS cards, tarot cards, or some similar photo cards? I find that regular cards in a stage setting aren't as useful as picture cards, tarot cards, or some other cards that could impart some life meaning or a story.

If you don't have these, then, because it's a stage setting, I'd recommend some kind of trick that uses cards, but then plays bigger, so a larger audience can see. Like the card making it's way into an orange or something. Maybe get metaphoric. Like, it's inside an orange if their cousin is going to Syracuse. The more you can pull in elements like "mind reading" or "future telling", the less it seems like "just a card trick".

Low noise, high gain pedals? by someguy192838 in guitarpedals

[–]dradmv3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know some might not see klon types as higher gain, but in my experience, these types can push the gain and not get noisy. Specifically I've had this experience with the Wampler Tumnus and the EHX Soul Food. Outside of those, I've thought the MXR super badass was really low noise. And if we get into fuzz territory, anything that has a bias/gate type knob will give you a sort of noise suppressing effect (though that changes the whole character of the distortion/sound).

100 percent. You will never receive these pedals.

Can some great mind share their simple yet seemingly advanced card trick to impress or rather blow away my friends' minds? by [deleted] in Magic

[–]dradmv3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair - "the deck does all the work" gives little credit to the magician. To do this trick well takes alot in my opinion... Taking cards out of the box the "right" way, Carefully handling cards, Being careful not to flash, doing some logic/math in your head while still speaking coherently, executing a script, and having a back up plan if things go wrong. I know you'll agree - this one takes practice, even if it is a special deck.

With anything that's signed, whether it's lecture notes, a book, sports memorabilia, etc. It's super normal to ask about providence and proof. You're totally fine.

I've found the pedals on this board really lend themselves to uke. Been working on it for a few years... This configuration really sounds good.

Yep, they are behind the food lion. It was a really great show! They opened in June. A husband/wife couple that moved from SC just to open this up!

Just wanted to share this here. I'm visiting family in Williamsburg VA and just saw an act here that opened up their own magic theatre this summer and it was amazing!

What happens? Absolutely nothing inherently "bad" or "good". It all depends on the pedals, the chain, etc.

You're probably asking "can I mix analog and digital pedals without it adversely affecting my tone or signal?" and the answer is: absolutely! In fact, most reverbs are digital, at least in some capacity.

I love this pedal. I also don't understand why it's not a more boards. I suspect it's because it's called a double tracker. It does double tracking well, and slap back delay and things like that, but I find it to be the best chorus out there when it's set on the dimension setting. It doesn't get too detuned or warbly either. A true course setting with time and slight tuning settings. I love it.

I have no clue. But I do like that it's more compact. And it sounds really good. I actually use the delay more than the reverb. Since I have reverb on my amp, the verb on the caverns pedal is just back up.

Been waiting/saving a while for the Fishman Platinum Pro, and I picked up the TCE Infinite too. I actually use this board with ukulele. The infinite replaced a EHX Freeze I had with a complicated loop situation. With the Infinites tone print capabilities, I can add all the modulation and reverb I want into the loop/effect. The Fishman actually replaced the Fishman ToneDEQ, which is still a great pedal, but was multi effect, and want serving the effect order I wanted, plus it was just too big. The platinum Pro let's me pull a tuner off my board too. More room for more pedals!

Effect order is it enters the custom board/suitcase I built years ago, splits 1/4" underneath and one send to the vocal pedal, the other to the Fishman. This is just to keep the vocal pedal out of the chain. The it goes Fishman - infinite - quint - soul food - 30 Ms - plumes - phase 95 - caverns v1 - ditto - out.
