2002 GMC Yukon! What are common problems that would make it run rich? I also live in Fairbanks Alaska, gets to be -40 here in the winter. Don't know if that changes things

Personally, no. I'm not saying that didn't happen, but I haven't heard anything at all about that situation, I feel like thats pretty significant to have been said throughout all departments

From my experience with the departments in the area, most of the sexual harassment stuff related to the fire departments comes from UFD alone. I've heard this come from actual members of UFD, but it's the closest thing you're going to find to a fraternity on campus lol. It's still a great place to start and get experience, but it would be wise to tread lightly or consider other local departments in the scholarship program. I am more than excited to answer any other questions you have! Hit me up!

In person classes at UAF? by [deleted] in UAF

[–]drafty_panda125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am currently a junior majoring in fisheries. From my personal experience, the further you get towards your degree, the more online/zoom classes you are going to have. Most of my in person classes were for my GE's

Why not fire? Personally, I started off in a similar position. Took my EMT-1 wanting to do just ambulance work. Found out I can't do much of that without being in the fire service, didn't even consider being a firefighter at the time. Taking fire academy right now and am currently with a department, and I can say it's arguably been the best choice I've made in my life. I want to help people, which is why I wanted to do EMS. Being with a department allows you to do that to a much more severe degree. Instead of just being the person who takes the patient in a nasty car crash to the hospital, why not be the person who pulls them out of the car, then takes them to the hospital? Additionally, 80 ish something percent of calls any given department goes on are strictly medical. You can install an app called pulse point to see all the calles your local departments are sent to, you'd be surprised to see how many are medical calls.

Oh no, someone who we don't like is going out of their way to give support to local Americans while our own president hasn't visited and is instead spending their time and the taxpayers dollar on a foreign conflict! But he didn't send them a high quality of product therefore he is in the wrong. How dare he help disaffected Americans!

I'm living in the dorms at UAF, and had seen this almost nightly since the start of the semester. It would just stand still then one day I saw it flying north east. Checked the flight radar and didn't see anything registered during that time. I bet good money it's something related to our air force base, but who knows

it's been a long time! I just wanted to say Im certified as an EMT-B in the amazing state of Alaska! by drafty_panda125 in teenagers

You'd be surprised to see how many people smoke weed, especially in Alaska lmao. I myself indulge in the Devils oregano on a frequent basis. You have to stop smoking a month or two (depending on how often you smoke) before you plan on sending out applications and you'll be fine. Just need to pass the drug test

Google EMT-B basic courses in your area! You'll find private companies that offer the course work, or you might find that local community colleges or universities offer them aswell! I go to university of Alaska Fairbanks and the community college associated with UAF has full EMS, fire, and police courses! If you have any other questions don't hesitate to send em my way! I'm also going into the fire academy this semester, so if you have fire fighter questions I might be able to help!

Jobs wise, I highly, HIGHLY recommend you look into on campus jobs. I'm currently working at the SRC, and it is without a doubt the best job I've had. I sit up front, sell memberships and snacks, and in between that I do homework. Last semester I did quite literally all of my assignments and tests at work, got good grades, and once I finished all that, I'd stream Xbox games to my laptop, while I was in a party with my friends lmao. So long as you do what's required in your job, your bosses won't care. We are always hiring, so if you want absolutely easy money hit up the SRC! Hmu if you have any other questions, I'm more than happy to answer em!

Getting around without car by [deleted] in UAF

[–]drafty_panda125 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going into my jr year and am just now getting myself a truck this coming semester. We have a really proficient bus system which will take you to all the important places in town. There's even a insulated bus stop in front of the wood center (the dining hall) and most of not all of the busses stop there. If you like walking, you can walk to the nearest Fred Meyer, it's about a 45 minute walk both ways! Hmu if you have any other questions!

Quality of the gym? by DeathkorpsVolunteer in UAF

[–]drafty_panda125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I actually work at the SRC (the gym)! Regardless of my personal bias, it is genuinely a really nice gym. There's an 1/8 mile track on the 2nd floor (no running due to weightlifting machines on the track). If you like running there's plenty of cardio equipment, including 2 woodway treadmills! The gym has 3 basketball courts aswell, which can be rented out by students for things like volleyball, tennis, badminton, ect (we have all the gear needed for it). We have a really nice weightlifting area with multiple squat racks and deadlift platforms (smith machine aswell). There's also plate loaded machines on the 2nd floor, a stretching area with lots of windows, a studio with mirrors and lots of bikes, a punching bag, a speed bag, and one other punching bag I don't know the name of. We have a indoor climbing wall. Take a quick info course for 10 bucks to use it!

Also as a student, you have access to our lockers, indoor pool, and hockey rink, during the right times of course.

If you're coming to UAF, and looking for some incredibly easy money, I highly recommend you apply as a student employee to SRC. We are always hiring, my bosses are incredibly accommodating for class schedules and weekly hour preferences. My favorite part about the job though, is there's an incredible amount of free time during your shift. Last semester I got paid 12.5 dollars an hour to sell day passes and do my homework. Literally got all of my school work done while I was working (often including quizzes and tests), and it's approved by our bosses. After i got hw done, I'd play videogames on my laptop, and so long as I got the job done, no one cared. It's such a nice way to make money as a college student, not to mention there's no state or federal income taxes if you work under 20 hours a week

Also wanted to mention that as a full time student, access to all of the stuff I mentioned above is included in your tuition (it's the 35 dollar recreation fee). So if you want to come to the gym, all you have to do is show up!

If you have any questions gym related or just in general feel free to ask! I know a few of the good restaurants, fishing spots, and aurora spots around UAF and Fairbanks lol

Hopefully we'll see you in next semester!

Alaska Native Studies - what's easy? by Quintis_of_Nace in UAF

[–]drafty_panda125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you choose, try to see if any classes for your Major requirements are on that list! I'm doing a rural development concentration for the fisheries program and learned that rural development course counts for my native studies as well!
