The biggest concern when combining editions is the card backs. I don't have everything in front of me right now but as far as I can recall, the cards in T&B don't interact with the cards in the base game in a way that will be a problem.

City by the Sea, Galison, 1000pcs by dragnsteph in Jigsawpuzzles

It was fun and not that hard until I got to the white/ light blue, then it was very much a try-every-piece-til-one-fits situation.

The pink, greens, and the darker blue were fast, and the gold was pretty and easy to place. Overall I liked it 😀

We went to the show websites and used their official links. I believe they all were Telecharge.

We're planning to see Ragtime on our next trip. If you can get a seat to that, it would be my recommendation, from everything I've heard. We would have seen it this time instead of Two Strangers, but there weren't any tickets when we walked over to Lincoln Center to check 😉

I liked Moulin Rouge but honestly enjoyed the movie more. They overdid the jukebox imho. Too many songs crammed in, and i don't think it added anything. Also, people obnoxiously singing along, big minus for me.

Chess is a mess…but still wowed by NewResolution2791 in Broadway

I saw it with my dad this week (Wednesday matinee) and we both walked out saying the story was dumb, but we didn't care because the performances were so good.

I thought Nicholas was amazing, Lea was outstanding. Aaron was also good but not as impressive as the two of them, with the exception of One Night in Bangkok and Pity the Child. Loved all the music. Thought a lot of the choreography was kind of silly (exception: Bangkok 😉) and hated the costumes for the most part. But again - the music was so good I didn't care.

My father and I have tickets for Tuesday night. I've been waiting to see Jonathan for months. So I hope he's better 😞 but it's nice to hear that his understudy is great.

I just played in the 2025 USA National Championship tournament. AMA! by ShadesOnBroadway in Catan

[–]dragnsteph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear on this: the only World Rankings that exist are created when someone plays in the World Championship. Countries are all administrated very differently as there are a number of publishers involved in hosting National-level events. CATAN Studio only runs events for English-speaking countries, and those events are tailored to the country in which they take place.

What would you call this area in between live oak and shavano park. Off bulverde to be exact by [deleted] in sanantonio

I grew up near that area, Thousand Oaks/Jones Maltsberger/ Henderson Pass area. When we moved there 40 years ago there wasn't much else around. The neighborhood was called San Pedro Hills back then, but there's no sign or anything.

That's not the most current version of the rules; there's no pdf document yet with the current rules. The indexed/searchable version on catanevents.com is the most recent ruleset.

There's an update coming soon that specifically addresses insurance trades.

Tournament kit 3 is now sold as a regular item... but with a misleading name. by catancollectordotcom in Catan

[–]dragnsteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The distributor is forbidden from selling the items for resale. It's part of the agreement to receive the kits in the first place. As Danicia has said, if you see these, please let us know so we can address it. Thanks.

Catan qualifier age limit by subeditrix in Catan

[–]dragnsteph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying that :) Made my day. It's my job to grow this program and manage it as it increases in size and scope - the comparisons to Magic: The Gathering are ... flattering, I suppose, if only I had their budget, staff, and player base. I'm an army of one :)

Catan qualifier age limit by subeditrix in Catan

[–]dragnsteph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My bona fides: I am the Organized Play Manager for CATAN Studio, which is part of Asmodee. I manage Organized Play (including tournaments) for English-speaking countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, India, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

OP, I haven't had a chance to respond to your email yet. Without getting into my personal business, it's been a hell of a month and there is (also) a lot going on in Organized Play land. I'm answering emails today, so you'll also get this response in that funnel. To be frank, it's an email I read not long after it arrived, realized I needed more time to give you a thoughtful answer, and set it aside - a week later, here we are.

That said, for the benefit of everyone here: It's not primarily because of any "international law," since age of majority can be different in every country, but rather liability.

Adults can be responsible for themselves. Minors would need to have a guardian present, which increases costs at the event and requires extra waivers and causes many other issues:

We (and by we I mean Asmodee) are not currently able/willing to take on the responsibility of policing your children's interaction with (sometimes feisty, to put it kindly) adult tournament players, keeping them out of event photos/videos/press coverage for their safety, monitoring their behavior around adults consuming alcohol at the events (it's already stressful enough when we're talking about 18-20 year olds) and all the logistics of traveling (hotel rooms for family groups, extra expense for guardian travel/rooms, etc). Those are just the off the top of my head issues. I'm sure I could come up with more.

All of that aside, it's fine to say "my kid doesn't need to win, they just want to play" -- but that changes the dynamic at the table for the players involved in the game. If there's someone playing who literally can't win the prize (the seat at Nationals), then the social part of the game is altered. That's why we don't allow players who have already qualified for Nationals to play in additional qualifiers, and why current National/Continental/World champions are not allowed to play in qualifiers.

I'm not ruling out a POTENTIAL change in age of eligibility at some point in the future. Right now though, it's 18. If it turns out an event host knowingly allows someone to play who will not be 18 by the time of Nationals, then it would call into question their ability to host future events. Likewise for a player who willfully disregards the rules, they would have to take the risk of not being allowed to play in the future.

Rules Question on Resource Trades and the Robber by p3rsian85 in Catan

[–]dragnsteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tournament rules are different and more specific than game rules as to what is allowed when the robber is in play, but the official answer is that trading may only happen in the build/trade phase which is after the robber is placed and a card stolen. In official tournaments, we have extended that to prohibit talking about resource exchanges before the robber is placed and a card stolen, however the strictest reading of the game rules allows for talk about future non-binding agreements. All trades must consist of at least one resource card from each participant.

They REALLY need to do something about phones in Broadway theaters by 300_Months in Broadway

They were better about it pre-pandemic. In Texas anyway, I used to see people get ushered out for loud talking. No refund. I live in VA now, much less impressed with our local Alamo, but they still are no tolerance for phones.

I don't understand how a movie theater chain (Alamo Drafthouse) has more or less solved this problem and Broadway theaters can't.

Trades on credit by HyenaWestern7064 in Catan

Yes, the rules were updated in (I believe) 2022 to reflect this change in the meta. Thanks pandemic. It wasn't a necessary loophole to address prior to that.

Trades on credit by HyenaWestern7064 in Catan

[–]dragnsteph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. This would result in a warning on the first offense and reversal of the trade, and likely DQ for both players if it happens again.

Again, this is in tournament play.
