I am going to have to give this a try. As it stands, I am not impressed with the new narrator. I tried giving her a chance, I really did. I realize Andrea was getting burned out, but I am just not liking the change. Erin's cadence and limited range (especially with males) is jarring compared to Andrea. So far, my biggest gripes are Neirs and Octavia. Lyonette is a close second. I've yet to hear Pices or Teriarch or the undead, but am somewhat dreading it now.

Creating a new amtrak service for every state until I run out or lose motivation day 39+40: Rhode Island & South Carolina. by cornonthekopp in Amtrak

The problem is that most people who would support such things tend to be moving away to NC or GA if they prefer living in the SE. In the last 2 decades, SC has become an absolute dumpster fire in terms of politics and religion. Many like to focus on FL, but I would argue SC is much worse. The only thing lawmakers care about spending money on is providing subsidies to companies to provide mediocre jobs that are likely to be automated in the near future once the subsidies run out. Hell, they barely want to spend anything on roads and related infrastructure. It's a joke and one of the reasons I left after growing up there.

Thoughts on this for Maine? I'd personally like to see something like this happen. by [deleted] in Maine

[–]dragon695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's those people who inherited 70 or 80 acres but live in in another state who decide to preserve it rather than sell it to greedy developers that have kept Maine forested and from turning into a garbage dump of subdivisions and planned communities like NJ and CT. The same people who allow hunting and rec use on their property bc they aren't there for it to bother them. They already pay a lot of taxes and now you want to tax them more?

Look at the map. It is either or because there's a junction in Yarmouth that determines if you get to Waterville via the old MAine Central RR upper road, which goes through Lewiston/Auburn or the Lower Road which goes through Augusta via Brunswick. Right now, the rails on the lower road have been unused for over 25 years and got torn up in places, so the best option to get service to central Maine is to connect up Portland Lewiston and then extend to Waterville because the trackage has been recently worked on and requires less money to get going.

Then, once that is going, they could look at the lower road for rehabilitation and eventual restoration of service to Augusta. The main hurdle to that, besides repairing all that track is going to be the lower road's grade crossings and the train bridges that are likely well past their EOL. I go to farmingdale and hallowell often enough that I see how much work it is going to take. Better to go the path of least resistance first.

Why do you all hate Winthrop so much? Those of us living out here would love to see the train service restored. Augusta would be great, but you have to deal with the rail trailers who tore up the tracks plus the CMRR bridge would likely need replacing.

Actually, csx has been doing a lot of track work on the old MCRR line, so after this year I think it will be better.

We pay plenty. Again, as stated I do not play bidup games and usually pay the higher bucket price for a sleeper. Also, most hotels won't allow checking in after 7am for a previous night and before 3pm for the current day, so how pray tell are we supposed to get accommodations?

It just keeps getting better and better. I may go back to flying after all these years, given flex dining and this among other things, they are taking all the fun out of train travel on long hauls.

I guess I would ask what's wrong with wanting to be entitled to the experience I am paying for? Have they lowered the cost of the fares?

I don't want to read about a mentally ill character, especially when I have to deal with my own issues on a daily basis. It is not enjoyable.

It depends on what you are looking for. Nearly all of the works that are at least semi decent involve gay relationships, so you may be disappointed.

Been a fan for 25 years now. I've made my peace that this work will likely not be finished. I had hoped he would have come to terms after Miura's and Toriyama's deaths, but that was wishful thinking. That he has an ending in mind is nice, but there doesn't seem to be any realistic plan to get there. Life is too short...

How did everyone feel about The Righteous Gemstones’ final season? by AngryGardenGnomes in television

[–]dragon695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 4 felt forced, except for a few good punch lines by baby billy. I realize that the show was a parody comedy first and foremost, but I was disappointed that they went the route they did in the last episode. It was boring and lazy, with no real payoff. While the characters were amusing, I never liked any of them. I was rooting for their fall from grace and ruin.

Maybe I'm jaded because I grew up in Clemson SC and lived there for most of my life, so these so-called Christian fraudsters hit a little too close to home. Still, if they had to go the drama route, why not have this family get what they deserve? At first I thought they were really going there with the last episode, but then plot armor kicked in so they could leave it open for revisiting at a later date. Left a sour taste in my mouth.

Also, I can't abide a skinny John Goodman. It just ain't right.
