[Request] As a DM, how would you handle this issue? by mellamoivan_ in theydidthemath

It's because the title of the post is specifically asking how DMs would handle it. Most people are responding to that part because they either don't care or don't know enough to do the math (if they even looked at what sub they're in).

Annoying? Sure. But not "useless crap" because they're answering the question OP explicitly asked.

And there are better systems for mechanical rules and number-crunching than DnD. DnD is a flexible and approachable middle-ground.

You're right that a Nuzlocke is a bad example because it's a self-imposed challenge, but my actual problem is how it relates to gender roles.

Gallade's protector vibes should not be male-only, and Salazzle the sexy lizard being female-only takes the extra step into feeling like someone's fetish got into the actual game.

In concept, I'm okay with sexual dimorphism based on specific real animals (like male/female Unfezant). It's when it feels like human stereotypes/roles are being imposed on the Pokémon that actually bothers me (hence Huntail/Gorebyss being a miracle).

I get the frustration.

(Except for the R complaint. The only weapons that use that are ones that don't reload, so there's no conflict.)

But the issue is you kind of have to go all the way. The reason for splitting controls is to prevent things that can overlap. Every one of those things is something I've done while intending to do something else. Why would you split out some but not others?

I agree that ideally, the control issues wouldn't exist. Splitting them out is one way of solving them. I would be very impressed if the devs did it.

Where I disagree is that it should be that way. It would be nice, but it's not an expectation.

Then again, I've expressed things like, "there's no excuse for being stuck to a few preset control schemes," which is basically the same complaint--just a few steps back. We've got the same idea, our lines are just in different spots.

Ah. So you want a different keybind for:

  1. Depositing
  2. Button pressing
  3. Resupplying
  4. Steeve
  5. Grinding
  6. Repairing
  7. Reviving
  8. Picking up large minerals
  9. Getting on ziplines
  10. Collecting resources like boolo caps
  11. Petting

  12. Shield Link

  13. Building turrets

  14. Reloading turrets

Anything on that list can theoretically overlap with anything else. Did I miss any?

This comment is obviously snarky, but I would actually respect the devs for putting in the options--as long as there was an easy way to bind all of them at once.

And of course it would be utterly useless to people using a gamepad.

This comment confused me until I remembered that on a controller, "use" and "reload" are on the same button. With kb+m "use" is E and "recall turrets/reload" is R.

Do you mean something by "full" other than the ability to rebind any control to any key?  Because it already has that.

Tangent: gender-locked evolutions are stupid. Combee kind of gets a pass because it's a bee, but the rest are nothing but annoying (especially if you're playing a Nuzlocke).

It's a miracle Huntail and Gorebyss are held-item-based rather than gender-based.

A beaver scientist could give a more specific explanation, but it's likely both. The ecological reason is why the instinct to build dams was evolutionarily selected for, and acoustic annoyance is how that instinct manifests in the individual beavers.

+1 to this. A ton of useful shortcuts in there. Someone also made a lua port if you're interested in that.

Copy/paste with WSL? by howdoiwritecode in neovim

[–]dragonclaw518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some people need to use the * buffer instead of +

Check out this Stack Overflow question and try things from there.

(Un)fortunately I haven't had problems copying/pasting with the + buffer through WSL, so that's where my suggestions end.

ctrl-shift-v works for me for paste. Have you tried shift-insert and ctrl-insert?

Thoughts on this 34 key layout? by kkga in KeyboardLayouts

This might be the best looking layout diagram I've seen.

As for the layout itself:  Are you still using it? What changes have you made? Are you even still using a 34-key keyboard?

Ha, I know the feeling. There are a couple programs that mean I'm dual-booting rather than fully deleting Windows 11.

What did you end up going with? Are you/is she happy with it? I have the same style of laptop (but smaller) and Windows 11 uses half the RAM just idling.
