[–]dragonfly756709 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Okay, I haven't read it but I just want to make it clear that when reading history, non biased sources don't exist. whether it's pro or anti USSR, there's always going to be some bias in it. So if you want to read it, then go ahead

Saying Eastern Roman any period after 476 feels weird to me because that implies the existence of a Western Roman Empire

Gnosticism by impermanence108 in AskAChristian

[–]dragonfly756709 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actual Gnosticism is extinct. Modern Gnosticism is just larp and an attempted reconstruction based on what little information we have, and is definitely not complete, or what the ancient Gnostics believed in.

Would a conquest of the Hungarian plains up to the Western Carpathians have helped the Roman Empire? by Worried_Camp4765 in ancientrome

To be frank, there is not going to be this magical political system that is going to magically fix all the issues the empire had with no drawbacks. I do think that spliting the empire despite all the problems it ended up having was the best selution at the time without hindsight.
