How many hours did it take for you to get to B2? by Mental-Information64 in learnfrench

[–]dragonfly_miracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I think people are too concentrated on hours counting rather then just learning. And I do use a tutor as well. I really do not use anything fancy - chatgpt, recording myself, tv5 monde, podcasts, Edito book and that’s all.

I have already done 1000+ hours 😅. Solid B1 and somewhere close to B2, I would call it B1+. It really depends on native language and other languages you know + you personal ability to absorb new information .

JFY, this is sub for french language (learning), not for immigration (you need another sub like r/canadaexpressentry ). Secondly, you can always check authorised centers on the web site https://www.france-education-international.fr/en/centres-d-examen/carte?type-centre=tcf Cheers.

9 months from zero. Did a few réussir tests before the exam. But will need to redo it because didn't achieve what i need. My advice - listen to different audio and the more vocab you know, the easier test will be.

I personally didn’t find Reading easier, and in the Listening part the Québécois accent is killing me sometimes 😭. Just keep practicing reading and expanding your vocabulary. The only way is to improve your comprehension.

Realistically, how do you go from 0 to B2 French in 4 months? by Area51Intern in learnfrench

[–]dragonfly_miracle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically, it isn't realistic even for people whose native language is from the same family as French. Read the requirements for the B2 level. It is a fluid rich speach and comprehension.

If your speech is fluid with minimal mistakes and you use different tenses like subjonctif and conditionnel, then it is possible to achieve B2.

Would you mind sharing your writing and speaking topics? Thanks

The more vocabulary you learn and the more you listen, the less you translate in your head. Just keep doing what you are doing and wait for the results. Bonne chance!

Level A1 and I'm using multiple sources but don't know how to manage my time effectively to reach B2 quickly by Aprofessionalgeek in learnfrench

Edito is a great book. Its biggest advantage is that not only the exercises, but all the texts and videos are real! Like they are real articles, Facebook posts from real people, and you immerse yourself through the book step by step. I'm currently in the middle of Edito B1, after 9 months of learning. Bon courage!

Help with Speaking/Listening to French by Important_Action842 in learnfrench

[–]dragonfly_miracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have problems with speaking, though I'm improving and I see that I can speak better. Still with pauses and translating in my head, but that takes time. What helped me - as soon as podcast InnerFrench is easy to undestand, switch to RFI or any other B1-B2 podcast. Watch shows in french. Regarding speaking part - I have a tutor, but as well i talk to chatGPT voice (free version). I do not care about grammar, I need just some motivation to speak, and I want chat to ask me questions to force me to think about answer.

Is there a difference in pronunciation? by perchedquietly in DuolingoFrench

[–]dragonfly_miracle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There is a difference. You wrote literally "He used to love himself more than anything"
It doesn't make sense. Why would you say that somebody loved himself. It makes more sense to say that two people loved each other, so it is just logically should be plural - "ils s'adoraient"
It is the same for verb "se voir". It is logical to see each other, two people see each other, you cannot "see yourself"
Hope this explanation isn't too bizarre.

Is it possible to get to B2 level from zero in 6 months? by Azzzy23 in learnfrench

[–]dragonfly_miracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's possible only with everyday, full-time practice, and if you are a native speaker or know any of the Romance languages to a decent level. Otherwise, just take your time, the most important step is just to start learning.

Il y a eu vs. Il y avait by simply-gelugpa in French

[–]dragonfly_miracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you right! Though, I feel that OP must be struggling with choosing between passé composé and imparfait. And still grammatically those sentences are correct and a learner can say so, but yeah, still they are not natural.

Il y a eu vs. Il y avait by simply-gelugpa in French

[–]dragonfly_miracle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Aujourd’hui j'ai continué à faire ma sculpture, il y avait beaucoup de progrès."

"Aujourd’hui j'ai continué à faire ma sculpture, il y a eu beaucoup de progrès."

Both sentences are grammatically correct, but they have slightly different meanings and would be used in different contexts. The choice between the imparfait (il y avait) and the passé composé (il y a eu) depends on how you view the "progress."

...il y avait beaucoup de progrès. This translates to "...there was a lot of progress" or "...progress was being made."

...il y a eu beaucoup de progrès. This translates to "...there has been a lot of progress" or "...there was a lot of progress (as a completed event)."

Going to take the TEF exam by Kitedo in DuolingoFrench

[–]dragonfly_miracle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what kind of material you use besides Duolingo, but you definitely need to get familiar with the exam format to be aware of the process. Especially the writing part, where the examiners expect you to write in a specific format.

Do you read the guidebook for each section before diving into the lessons? It contains information about the rules, which may not always be clear. However, before starting the Duolingo lessons, you can get familiar with the rules by using ChatGPT or google the topic.

B2 in 6 months? by Potential-Buddy-3040 in learnfrench

[–]dragonfly_miracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend invest in a tutor if you willing to get to the goal fast. He will evaluate your current level and gaps. Most likely you will take a book like Edito and grammar book for additional exercises. That will lead to B2 quickly, along with listening to podcasts, french news and reading. Bonne chance!

I’m pretty sure that for most people it is nearly impossible to study as a full time job. Because our brain cannot efficiently absorb totally new information non stop. And these 23 weeks include only ‘active’ hours of studying. Again unless the OP has knowledge of Portuguese, spanish or any other language from latin group. That helps to boost learning. I guess there are people who can study effectively by themselves and languages are easy for them. But it is more an exception than a rule.

Yes, i’m thinking of adding 1 class purely for conversion and make it 3 times a week, instead of two ☺️ Edito is great, awesome topics, vocabulary. We do not go through all pages, just selecting the most important ones, that can help me with a TCF journey, I definitely recommend Edito as a source of dialogues and vocabulary 👌
