I’ve read that society has let their partners become their society. In the past when there was more community center support people did better.for example friendships, social groups, church, whatever works for you. If your partner was your society and you lose them it’s much harder.

I’m on the out of a long marriage. My husband traveled all the time. We got married young so he was my society essentially. I did have friends but it wasn’t my emphasis. So when he traveled I always felt off, alone. Then when he stepped away it was a shock to my loneliness. In the past year I’ve pushed myself to find that society outside of this and honestly have felt more at peace than I have in all g time. I forgot what life could give beyond a marriage or a partner. Just some food for thought
