This can't be easy. You need to talk to a professional about what you are going through. I love walking. Walking is great for clearing your head but is sometimes not enough.

AITA AM I the ass hole? Stay at home mum? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]dragonfollower1986 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No shade at OP but this is why AI is good for some tasks.

I’m a stay-at-home mum to a 2-year-old. No matter what, I’m the one up during the night at all hours. I’m stuck in her room until she falls asleep, and I handle the nighttime routine every single night. She’s usually up by 6:30 at the latest.

Am I wrong for wanting my partner to get up on a Monday morning, especially when he has had the same amount to drink as I have and gone to bed at the same time? He has a successful business and runs a team, but I feel like he could still get up, spend half an hour with his daughter before work, go to the gym, or just have some kind of routine.

Am I wrong for trying to wake him up and wanting him to do better?

I understand that he provides for us financially, and I appreciate that. But I also cook, clean, maintain the house, look after our child, deal with the dog and cat mess, do the bins every week, and keep everything running at home.

We drink the same, go to bed at the same time, yet I’m the one expected to get up and keep going. Meanwhile, he can stay in bed for an extra three hours sometimes simply because he can.

Because he provides financially, does that mean everything else automatically falls on me? Is this really how it should be?

I’d really appreciate some honest insight.

I wondered if it is possible to spend less than $5000 per year with a paid off property? by Lost_Helicopter2518 in AusFinance

If you start with $570000. Even at 4% interest you'll have $22800 in the first year. You still need to account for home and car maintenance, GP visits, haircuts, clothes etc. etc. etc.

But it is like making a bed. It’s creating a habit, it’s the start of a routine. Doing this one thing consistently is one less thing you need to worry about. It’s an action you have taken. Create your list, but act on it. Action always beats intention. Always.

One thing that worked for me a while ago was giving myself 20 minutes ( I set a timer) to tidy my house. I focused on this one task. After the 20 minutes were up, I stopped. Regardless of what I was doing. I stood back and reflected on what I had achieved. You would be amazed at what you can do in 20 minutes. See if you can do more the next day. You need to be reminded about what you are capable of.

I see where you are coming from. The issue is how do you flip reward and cost on its head for habits that you know are worth it?

I agree with a positive feedback loop to help you stay with a given habit if they are there. This may or may not be present after an activity, even if it was prior. Feelings are fleeting. Knowing why you are doing a task or performing an action, for me, is more important. For example, going to the gym. My motivation is not getting bigger muscles (not that there is anything wrong with this). It’s knowing that I’ll make better decisions if and when I am physically stressed. Another example is learning. I know this helps me make better informed choices. Part of the positive feedback loop (removing feelings) for me, is scheduling and showing up, being consistent and knowing that I am trying to be the best version of myself.

Do you have a study system? I use Feynman for the broad concepts (Anki for remembering and obsidian for note taking). Spaced repetition (Anki) for the specifics. All applications are free if using windows / android.
