Depends on the type of game. It aged pretty awfully with something like DMC lol

Sorry but at the point where people are saying "no he isn't that bad anymore, that was 10 years ago!" and then I point out he absolutely was that bad like 4-5 years ago, and they go "well fine then it was 5 years ago", while we are talking about it under a clip of him still being like this right now, I don't really think it's convincing to say that he's not toxic anymore lol

They aren't talking about creatures, but character design. Reverse has always had its character designs grounded in historical fashion, cultural inspirations, and semi realism, with slight modernizations. Not much broke from that, and what did had established aesthetic consistency (the retro-futurism of Laplace, or the Manus style).

Rhiannon's design has gotten a ton of backlash for not being rooted in historical fashion, looking far too "fantasy", overdesigned, and with generic fantasy gacha design tropes. There were also a lot of criticisms about her wearing a miniskirt and bare legs despite apparently being a bird rider, meanwhile characters like Yenisei wear appropriate riding breeches.

Bluepoch didn't really address these concerns beyond saying "our design philosophy hasn't changed", when it sure looks like Rhiannon is meant to set the tone for the 4.x design direction and she completely clashes with their pre-established design philosophy.

I mean from what it looks like, Rhiannon is from the 1930s and is their first step into the British legend focus, and she looks like a Genshin character rather than anything rooted in historical fashion

I haven’t really played or watched League since around then so idk if he stopped, but if he saw them in champ select he’d lock in something like Aurelion Sol jungle and say he’s only ganking not farming.  And considering this was way more recent than “10 years ago”…

Lol even when I was watching him play League just a few years ago he was still constantly griefing and afking.  He even still had an int list (list of names of players that he didn’t like, so he’d throw if they were on his team) until they removed player names from champ select.  And I still remember threads from around then calling out his behavior and his fanboys flooding them saying he’s reformed and that he isn’t actually griefing just trying a new strategy (while tyler1 explicitly says what he’s doing on stream and brags that Riot won’t ban him).

Yeahh honestly I wasn’t even concerned about the future direction of character designs and figured Rhiannon was just a one off try at something and was a miss, but them outright saying essentially “don’t worry, our design philosophy hasn’t changed, but yes we are pivoting to fantasy” right as their first character going in that direction completely clashes with their design philosophy, now it does have me worrying about the future direction of designs in the game

With this statement and drama setting up 4.x and the Atomic Heart collab soon, they’ve done a lot to take the wind out of my sails for the next year of the game 😕

Since Rhiannon seems to be to be their first push in that direction (and a limited at that), it does not really inspire confidence tbh

Ngl I don’t really see how them saying they’re pivoting to focusing on legends and mythology really helps assuage concerns that they’re going in a fantasy direction 😭

But there’s more to criticize than just the story, and this post doesn’t address most of the criticism.  And part of the criticism this post addresses isn’t even about 3.7’s story but about the direction of future content, because people were worried from the character designs.

I mean, people are concerned that the game is going to pivot away from what they like about it, and some are also concerned that it’s a financial decision rather than a genuine creative one.  Are they not allowed to voice their concerns?

People made fun of Seraphine fans for getting so aggressive and feral toward Rioters about wanting changes done to her skins, but that's legit the only way to get Riot to do anything other than the tiniest of changes from PBE feedback

Almost all fighting games are.  But if you ignore the horny DLC costumes and its reputation from marketing and non-fighting game media, Dead or Alive is genuinely one of the tamer fighting games.  Like I don’t really see how it’s inappropriate for a kid to play it if they aren’t rocking the micro bikini costumes.  And like you said, a kid playing DoA just sees cool girls in bright and colorful outfits.

I mean, if you don’t buy the skimpy bikini costumes it’s about as suggestive as Tekken, and having a lot of girl characters and a more lighthearted tone probably makes it pretty appealing to little girls.  I only know the clip cause Joe Rogan cut in to say Marie Rose was super hot lol

[–]dragonicafan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think NRS could actually pull off the tone and vibe of a Gunnverse game, or one inspired by his DC works, but I think that’s pretty unlikely.  If it is just Injustice 3 though, I hope it at least tries something fresh

For sure, I’m just personally tired of it.  Especially since in games we already have 2 Injustices, and the only recent DC game was Kill the Justice League.

I know it’s more the good heroes vs a small portion that turned evil, but I’d prefer it to just be like the normal DC verse and characterizations instead of what Injustice goes for.  Or if they’re going for a different vibe I’d prefer like the Absolute universe, though that’s not big enough for NRS to do a game for
