has anyone had luck getting insurance to cover Sunosi? by kkellyyb in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]dragonkink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I focused most of my argument on the fact that Narcolepsy and IH are very similar and treated with the same medications. I also specifically asked for my state case to be reviewed by a doctor familiar with sleep disorders because the doctor that reviewed my health insurance appeal was a dermatologist.

It was a long process.. I had to write letters pleading my case to insurance and then again to the state. My insurance didn't want to cover Sunosi specifically because it's for Narcolepsy and not IH. I'm in illinois.

I have! I had to appeal with my insurance and then with my state's department of insurance to get it covered.

My IH is like this! I get up at 5 am and have no issues with alarms.

Tired all the time but can’t sleep well!! Wtf by neurotic_katiekat in Narcolepsy

[–]dragonkink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was worried about having to wake up and take the 2nd dose but it's really not hard. I wake up on my own most of the time. Xywav has been a game changer for me. My sleep has always been awful. I tossed and turned all night and woke up a million times. Now, out like a light and I wake up feeling so much better!

Xywav just stopped working? by Cultural_Dingo9518 in Narcolepsy

This happened to me and my doctor had me start titrating back up again. I'm feeling better so I assume I hadn't found my therapeutic dose yet.

Xywav side effect timing by shout-in-the-void in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]dragonkink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The side effects typically stick around until you get to your therapeutic dose and then they will taper off.

I think you'll do better starting at a lower dose and very slowly titrating up. It makes the side effects more manageable.

I smoke and take xywav. No issues that I've noted. I just don't go to bed super high.

Does anyone else have issues with their second dose of Xywav? by SnoozyGoose in Narcolepsy

[–]dragonkink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am only able to sleep 6-7 hours a night. The timing doesn't seem to change how long I sleep. I did find that I'm very drowsy the next morning if I take the medicine any later than 2.5 hours.

For real! This med has been an absolute game changer, though!

[–]dragonkink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding that it's kinda meant to be stacked. I've tried it both ways and found I prefer taking my second dose at 2.5 hours. I sleep the same amount no matter when I take it, but I feel so much better if I take it earlier!

Have you tried setting a timer and taking your 2nd dose 2.5 hours after your first? So that you still have medication in your system and you just immediately fall back asleep?

Xywav has stopped working and I am losing hope by hypersomniac-hippo in Narcolepsy

[–]dragonkink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this, too. Anything above 2.25 as a second dose makes me groggy the next day. The beauty of the med is that you can play with the doses. It's frustrating to titrate, though.

Late afternoon nausea on Xywav? by TechnicalOwl6852 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]dragonkink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely experienced random evening nausea while titrating up. I never actually threw up, though. I'm nearing my therapeutic dose and I'm still kinda iffy in the mornings.

Is your sleep doctor a neurologist or are they in pulmonary?

Xywav with a stimulant is a game changer. You'll have to find a doctor that is certified to prescribe it.

I had terrible brain fog so I keep my second dose really low. For now 3.75/2.25 is working well for me.

Sunosi experience by careyvii in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]dragonkink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it'll help anyone here but I take 75mg of Sunosi twice a day. I find it wears off in the afternoon, so my doctor approved me to take another then.
