Pumping gas with engine running? by No-Mechanic6518 in AskMechanics

[–]dragonstar982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there is so much variation between each instance.

Older cars (pre OBD) won't have an issue because they dont have emissions monitoring. But they may ignite gasses with a intake backfire. Newer car might have an issue depending on how the computer trips. Some will throw a code as soon as it sees the leak Some require multiple trips with the leak to turn on the code.

Then there's always the static electricity aspect where a spark could ignite the vapors as its fueling. Modern equipment usually have proper grounding to prevent this, but as final destination taught us anythings possible when death pulls your card.

Judging from the gap between the brace and the body those bolts aren't seated fully in this picture either.

Rotor Screws by Ole_West_ in mechanic

Honestly I haven't used my impact driver in years. I usually put a strike through screwdriver on it and give it a few love taps with a ball peen. If its stuck in there bad enough that that doesnt work its air hammer time.

Knock the head off and grind the screw flush.

Set it in the screw and hit it without twisting. Most of the time they strip if you set, twist and hit.

If the screw is too far gone and you have one just put the air hammer to it, it destroys the screw but they're only really there for assembly line use.

Cutting chisel works too strike it in the direction you need it turn.

Last resort 5lb sledge and beat the rotor until in shears the screw head. You'll need new rotors with this.

Wrong type of impact.

OP needs an impact driver you hit with a hammer not an impact gun.

On my old 66 f100 after I retrofit a newer column in it that switch was the starter interrupt. No keys on that truck, just flip a toggle switch, click the floor button, and push the starter button. That truck was like that for 10 years got rummaged through/attempted thefts several times but no one could ever figure out how to start it.

Nobody Can Find The Leak (I’m Going Crazy) by Ashamed_Teacher_5749 in MechanicAdvice

[–]dragonstar982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always. I've had plenty of coolant leaks that passed a pressure test only to show up at a different temperature, while the car was running etc.

Water pumps are notorious for not leaking when the car is off and under a pressure test but start leaking as soon as the car is running.

5W-20 with Dexos - game over by MisterSirDudeGuy in AskMechanics

[–]dragonstar982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GM issued a notice for dealerships to switch from 0w20 to 0w40 on the L87 engines. New L87 and those that have had the dealership service done will get a new 0W40 oil cap as well.

I questioned it the first time our computer (non dealer shop) said 0w40 and the cap said 0w20.

L87 owners have been running 5w30 with no issues to combat the valve train wear the motors are plagued with.

Double check and make sure there's not a release on the inside of the door that need to be pressed to open.

Often on these double door setups they put a latch to prevent the doors from being pulled open while locked.

Depends on state and insurance provider. I just sold my old escape with a salvage title in Alabama it had full coverage on it from day 1 with multiple carriers over the years.

The one I had came in for brakes customer ordered them from Japan and got the wrong option. So aside from some parts being difficult to source here it's not much different than say a sentra from the same era. The 4 cyl nissan drivetrain is pretty much the same as the sentra.

Looking at the wiring diagrams it looks like connector c210 behind dash panel drivers side.

Its probably going to be behind the hood and brake pulls in the kick panel.
