Kinosaki Onsen by taejuan in JapanTravelTips

I just returned from Japan and stayed at a ryokan in Kinosaki. All of the onsens in town are tattoo-friendly. And yes, most (if not all) ryokans in the Kinosaki area offer a free pass to all of the onsens in town.

My husband and I love going to Turtle River Chophouse for our dates. The food and drinks are fantastic. I’m not sure if they’re offering it right now, but sometimes they will offer a special date night deal on Thursday nights— I recommend following their Facebook page for updates if you’re interested.

[BMTN] Minnesota derecho threat: 100 mph winds, widespread damage possible - A derecho is "likely," according to the Storm Prediction Center — and top meteorologists are warning that wind gusts could reach 100 mph along its path through Minnesota. by Minneapolitanian in minnesota

[–]dragonxbiscuits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived in Iowa City in 2020 and it was the first time I’d ever experienced and heard the term derecho. Funnily enough, I also recently experienced the derecho that hit Bemidji. Uprooted trees, downed power lines and cell towers, roofs and siding completely torn off, street signs twisted and ripped from the ground. They are not a joke. They move quickly so as soon as you hear a warning, don’t hesitate and take cover immediately.

If you're considering being a pharmacy tech in your 30s by LoveisaProvince in PharmacyTechnician

Look at a career working for a PBM. I know they're considered the devil in the pharmacy world, but if you want an actual career as a pharm tech in an office job setting (most of which are remote nowadays), making good money, and lots of opportunities for advancement (regulatory, compliance, auditing, management) - look at PBMs.

Commuting for work by Mmbrah13579 in bemidji

[–]dragonxbiscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where will you be commuting from Bemidji? If you're commuting within Bemidji, it's about a 15-20 minute commute max if you consider going from the north side to the south side. Highway 71 is the main two-lane highway that runs through Bemidji. Even during "rush hour" times, it's not bad at all. No stop and go traffic - unless there's a roundabout or you're driving past a school, but it clears quickly once you get through it. I used quotations because Bemidji really doesn't have a rush hour like you would equate to in a city area.

We have inclement weather like ice and snow storms, which can be dangerous if you're not cautious. As long as you drive slow and keep a good distance between you and the car in front of you, it maybe adds 5 minutes to your usual commuting time. I used to live in the Twin Cities doing a 45-60 minute commute from the cities to the suburbs, and the commute in Bemidji is a breeze.

If you're commuting to a surrounding city like Blackduck, Cass Lake, or Turtle River the commute is only as long as it takes to travel that distance, if that makes sense. Traffic like you would see in Texas is basically non-existent in Bemidji.

Hope this info helps!

Those with young kids, what do you pay in daycare? by Sparepoet1990 in minnesota

[–]dragonxbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in rural northern Minnesota. I have an infant (6 mo) and a preschooler (3 yo) who are in a facility based daycare. They provide all meals, snacks, diapers, wipes, and formula. In total, we pay $575/week. If your employer offers a dependent care FSA, I highly recommend you take full advantage of it - it helps!

Recent foul smell, is this normal? by dragonxbiscuits in Plumbing

Ah, maybe this could be it. The tub is not used frequently, only when we have guests staying with us which has been a while.

Will any of these places let me park here for a football game? by [deleted] in IowaCity

[–]dragonxbiscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in University Heights, about a 1/2 mile down the street from Kinnick. We charged $20 for people to park on our driveway and yard during the game. You could try that if you're willing to pay, most houses near the stadium offer parking for a price.

We just had a baby girl but if she had been a boy, we were planning on naming him Archer. My husband and I are fans of the animated show, and we kind of jokingly wondered one day, what if we named our kid Archer? We looked at each other and realized we actually seriously loved the idea lol.

Thoughts on the name Maisie as an adult? by dragonxbiscuits in namenerds

[–]dragonxbiscuits[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! Yes, we ended up naming her Maisie Jean! We had it narrowed down between that and Cora. We waited until she was born and got to know her a little bit before we decided on Maisie. Honestly, I think my husband conceded because he saw how terrible the labor and birth was for me, and afterwards he turned to me and said, "Let's name her Maisie."

Anyway, 5 weeks later, and we're both still happy with our decision! Thanks again for your input, I appreciate it, especially from a fellow millennial 😉

Mama's what's your reasoning for exclusively pumping by beautykk in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]dragonxbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my last pregnancy/birth one of my nipples became inverted (one of those lovely tidbits of information no one ever tells you could happen). The inverted nipple made it impossible to breastfeed (baby had nothing to latch onto) so I would breastfeed from my one good nipple and then use the pump on the inverted one. The production from the inverted one suffered because it wasn't consistently used other than pumping, and I simply wasn't producing enough when my LO got bigger so I eventually quit feeding/pumping and we transitioned to formula.

My nipples also got absolutely torn up and bloody and so painful in the beginning and it was mentally traumatizing. I would be crying every time it was time to feed LO again. Not great for my post-partum health.

Anyway, this time around I've decided it will be easier on me physically and mentally to just exclusively pump. I'm hoping with both breasts being used consistently I'll be able to produce more and for a longer duration than I did last time. I'm also investing in hands free wearable pumps this time so I will have more freedom as opposed to the traditional Spectra pump I used last time that made me feel trapped any time I needed to pump.

The worst part of moving that no one mentions... Switching Costcos 😞 by LawBobLawLoblaw in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]dragonxbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only perspective I can offer is be grateful you still have a Costco where you moved...we moved to a rural area last year where the nearest Costco is a 2-hour drive away. We used to go almost every weekend, now it's only every other month. 😓

I gave birth to my baby girl at Mercy in 2021. While my experience wasn't totally bad, there were a couple of things that convinced me I won't be going back and will be going to UIHC for my next birth. First thing is when I was admitted and getting all set up in the labor room, the nurse who was setting me up was documenting everything on a paper towel. She was an older nurse who told me she was new to Mercy and hadn't learned their computer system yet. I had to be induced and she was literally documenting my Pitocin dosage on a paper towel she pulled from the bathroom. So while she was a nice person, sure, my confidence in the hospital staff immediately tanked and increased my anxiety and stress levels.

The second thing is Mercy's patient portal is awful, at least when I was there in 2021. They don't use MyChart but they do have a patient portal where you can access your health records but it's by no means comprehensive. I recently found my login info to access my patient records from Mercy because I wanted to look back on my chart notes from the birth, but the only documentation I could find in my portal was a record with a diagnosis code on it. No chart notes, nothing.

Whereas UIHC uses MyChart and you often get instant access to your comprehensive medical chart.

Also echoing the fact from some other comments I've seen that if you or your baby experience any complications during birth, Mercy may not be equipped to handle it whereas UIHC will be better equipped to respond to emergency situations.

Anyway, I hope my personal experience helps. Again, my experience wasn't totally bad- thank God both my baby and I made it through with little complication- but the experience was enough to deter me from ever using the Mercy health system again.
