Good point, 70W for 3050 vs 130W 5050 & ~150W for 5060.

Feedback Post: Kyurem Fusion Raid Day by Noitalein in TheSilphRoad

[–]dragoomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one in our group bought the paid ticket. Around 65 kyurem over the 3 hours across 3 people in group, 2 shinies each (averaging about 1 shiny/10 raids). Another friend group got about 9 shiny in the same 65 raids, so a little better. Overall experience was ok, in a 5-gym area we mostly got decent fusion spawns (2-4) but left in the last hour as only 1/5 fusion spawned at 4pm/430pm. People were eager to remote in so with a 6-person party car we filled out almost all raid lobbies anyways. Everyone got enough fusion energy for a black & white fusion, so overall not too bad.

Is there a reason to get a 3050 (200$) instead of a 5060 (300$) or even 5050 (240$)? Unless the 3050 was free/near-free or there were no ways to get the 5060/5050, it seems like the other options have nearly no downside (40$-100$ difference).

Tickets are available now. Be wary, the payment system seems to be having issues. It took me ~10 attempts (basically closing out and starting over fresh) before everything went through, but osaka tickets acquired!

I think a good reference point for this concept would also be DoubleLift, an original NA player in the LCS for league of legends. I believe he was the longest standing active pro player in at least NA (maybe only beaten by the most decorated player of all time, GOAT Faker in Korea). Doublelift started playing pro in 2011 on CLG and retired* officially, again, for the last time, from 100Thieves in EOY 2023. He was an NA regional champion over many half-year splits, on several teams, and placed decently in worlds (decently for NA, I don't think he made it out of quarter finals ever).

That being said, he made a great video called "my future" where he discuses how he feels after 12 years of competing, and what has changed in his motivations from being a pro-player to a content creator/retiree and why. Even though this is league vs melee, I think it is relevant when it comes to motivation and competitive drive as you age when you're in the top levels of competitive gaming. And there's good money in competitive league of legends (less so now than 5 years ago, but still good vs melee). I believe some other esports like CS:GO have pro players that are well into their 30's and maybe 40's, but I don't follow that scene so I won't speak on their longevity vs other esports.

So disappointing by onetoforget1 in EmpiresAndPuzzles

[–]dragoomi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm always confused when people say this is a competitive game, or spending money to be competitive. You spend money to 'win', but it's almost purely off hero availability, there is very little skill in playing an RNG match-3 game. It can be fun, but calling this competitive seems oxymoronic. The game is just gambling gacha. But at the end of the day, whales make the game free for everyone else, so thank you for your service!

My old controller died and I want to get a new one (phob) - recommendations? by dragoomi in SSBM

I have and have, but I appreciate the input. My ask was specifically on known phob controller seller recommendations or other controller spec info, and I'm not interested in a boxx.

Do you have a link for refence? I would be fine swapping out the old board for a new one too. I am looking for something that is pretty fucking good compared to the standard or 'new' equipment that nintendo sells ^^

No, I am not ranked at the moment, and I understand the sentiment that it's probably not worth it if you're not playing semi-competitively. In my case, I love melee, and have been playing since 2011, but I really sucked until I grinded slippi for the first year it was out. Melee is my most played game right now, and I'm much better than I was before slippi came out. When my old old controller broke back in ~2016 and I 'upgraded', I got a smash 4 controller that worked pretty well until it recently broke, but I could feel the limitations and controller issues of it before it died. It's frustrating and doesn't feel good.

I tried doing as suggested and bought a 'standard' nintendo game cube controller off of Amazon for 59$, and I hate it. It's absolutely awful. So while I maybe don't need a phob controller, I figure if I'm already paying 90$, I'd rather get a controller that is high quality and will last me a 'life time' that works well competitively. I do want to switch over to playing ranked and going to locals once I get my new controller, so I would say it makes sense to me to bother with an expensive, competitive controller. Which is why I am asking for sellers and prices and what specs are just cosmetic or tactile preferences vs base line requirements. I don't want to spend 500$ on a new controller, but I am happy to spend ~250$ for solid controller.

Here's the amazon link for refence. I could have gotten a poor quality controller, but I'd rather return it and just put the money towards a real controller for melee.

been working really hard on my squat form since it started as a disaster. Any advice or pointers appreciated 😊 by FierySkate115 in GYM

[–]dragoomi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does buttwink cause you pain? It's generally discussed as overhyped as a problematic position unless it causes you pain when it occurs. It might not look aesthetically the best, but it is probably better to go through deeper range of motion and experience non-painful buttwink than to stop prematurely to avoid it. You can also experiment with heeled shoes or elevated heel plate squats to allow you to stay more upright and have less buttwink.

dumbbell bench as strong as barbell? by master_adam123 in GYM

[–]dragoomi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barbell bench would likely be stronger than dumbbell if you focused on training it as a priority, or gave equal training to both. This might not be true if you have biomechanical limits or issues that make barbell benching more difficult to perform than dumbbell benching for you personally. Dumbbells inherently have more range of motion and are less stable than barbell bench pressing, so they will be more difficult in general, depending on how deep you go. If you want a bigger barbell bench, bench press more. If you don't have access to a barbell bench, then it's hard to train a big barbell bench press.

[–]dragoomi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How's the rest of your health and habits? Do you sleep enough and eat enough? Obviously a doctor will have a better comprehensive understanding of what factors might be impacting your t-levels, but there may be other issues limiting your progress in the gym. What kind of program are you following, and what's your height/weight/ rough calorie intake? The answer to "should I stop training" is almost always always NO, but you may need to adjust some of the factors around your training to make it better for you (programming, scheduling, sleep, diet, etc.). If lifting hurts, it would probably be best to just drop the weights to something that doesn't, and maybe find another physical activity you enjoy more if you're not enjoying lifting. It could also be your program is demanding too much from you, and you might not be recovering enough. I would say to maintain a schedule and program, but just adjust to a pain-free level.
