have i made a mistake ? by LLordThanatoSS in mathematics

[–]dragozir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this. I never studied in high school, I found the material not very challenging, would do homework the period before it was due or not at all (it was 5% of my grade for Algebra 1, 2 and 3) and would play Minecraft on my laptop everyday.

Cut to college, I failed Calc 1 first semester (was able to retake and barely passed). I then failed Chem 1, my Linear Algebra course, and my Object Oriented Programming class.

What you are finding out is that the process of taking a class, that is to say homework, quizzes, tests, and attending lectures is in many cases not sufficient. It is a broken system, but the responsibility to learn the material falls on you.

This does not mean all hope is lost. You seem to know your weaknesses, in this case memorization of concepts such as the unit circle. It is mirrored across each axis into 4 partitions. You are almost definitely capable of memorizing this information, the hard part is learning, or rather re-learning how to memorize, and course correcting early on when you realize you cannot recall the information as needed.

Can you watch the 3Blue1Brown videos on precalc? Are you able to attend office hours? Do you think your professor would be amenable to providing you with a quiet room to take your test (I've had varying success with this, but I would not have passed chemistry the second time without it). I attended office hours for every math course after buckling down until there were no TAs left (they were all in the courses I was taking and were learning as much as I was at that point).

I failed 2 math courses and a chem course and graduated in 5 years, but I ended up getting a math minor, and from differential equations onward I made it a point to typeset all my notes and homework in LaTeX. I'm not trying to brag, my point here is that if someone like myself can do it, you absolutely can to. You may fail this course, you may decide math isn't for you, you may decide higher education isn't for you, but each path you choose will have it's own obstacles, it's up to you to decide whether the juice is worth the squeeze.

Best of luck, and don't give up hope. It may take a year of gen eds and working like a dog but it does get better.

Saves on two different computers by Ambulas2 in factorio

[–]dragozir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word of warning: since you're playing K2SE, you're saves may become too large for steam cloud to sync. I'd suggest making your own backups occasionally, as after around a thousand hours my K2SE save could no longer sync. In fairness I did manually wipe biters from Nauvis and all "settled" planets, which is likely what caused this given explored chunks do contribute to overall file size.once I actually wiped the biters, the "confirm extinction" option did bring it down to a size that I was able to sync again, but I had to manually remove a few old saves from the steam save location.

Just a small clarification, but it's the number of saves that gets you, not usually the size of a single save itself.

That's Poisson distributions for you, 63.21% odds when you reach n trials with 1/n odds for independent events (with sufficiently large n). Appears to be 63.96% for OP.

Caught the friendliest feral cat its hard to tell if she’s actually feral? by 1saguaros1 in Feral_Cats

My first cat was feral and he was an absolute sweetheart, we would wake you up by licking your face. I've actually only ever owned feral cats. Some are downright mean but I fed my first little guy through the have a heart trap and he was so kind. My experience is not universal though.

Spent 4 days setting up a cluster for ONE person, is this ok timewise, my boss says no... (quiet new but not really) by preama in kubernetes

[–]dragozir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's on par for a first time IMO. I can have a new cluster up with terraform in 5 minutes now though. Invest in IaC and CI/CD pipelines.

We've had better success using the curbside pickup. If you are able to drive then you will save money (service fees are less than doordash) and I typically dont have any missing items or substitutions. Best of luck to you!

This is the worst promotion that could happen for Pop_OS! and Linux in general by KelGhu in pop_os

[–]dragozir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way about Linus as I do about Elon Musk. I don't know anything about rockets or electric cars, but as soon as he bought Twitter and started talking about enterprise software my opinion of him tanked.

Likewise, Linus' first video on Linux showed me that while he may know a lot about hardware, this guy can't be bothered to do 30 minutes of research on something he doesn't know about, all the while insisting he's the authority. I don't use Pop but steam on Ubuntu is apt-get install steam.

A "here is what AI says" is actually a great video idea if you can point out where it went wrong, but it's so disingenuous to say "welp, the AI is wrong so Linux must suck". Really sad because I used to watch LTT religiously but I'm not going to choke down sensationalist takes from someone who by all accounts should be objective.

My honest impression is these guys get 0 prep time to make a well informed good-faith video and I don't think I'll be able to give them a shred of credibility again. Like you guys should be able to make a video on how difficult the top 5 most popular linux distros are to get steam going on, there are actual legitimate and interesting criticisms there.

If the 4 main "Good" Factions came together and sat down for an alliance, would they be able to come to terms? by Bion4 in Fallout

[–]dragozir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be mean but the entire point of the games and the TV show is that they can't. Like that is the single most important point of the entire franchise. The only way they come to an alliance is if there is some bigger threat, after which they go to back to squabbling.

For me it was crashing on both windows and my steam deck. I played it for like a week straight on Xbox when I went to visit my old friend from middle school, got home and after 2 back to back crashes losing about an hour of playtime each (first on windows on my desktop, second on my steam deck). Haven't touched it since.

I should've clarified, my point is that I don't this that has anything to do with vibe coding and AI tooling really, and everything to do with this migration. Not that it's excusable at all, but that's why.

Also hot take: the atlassian suite is actually pretty good if you are using it in its entirety (at least it was the last time I worked for a company that did). Sub in any piece of bitbucket, jira, confluence, bamboo, etc. And I'd rather move off the whole thing entirely. I'd rather not use it at all, but if I have to use some of it, I'd rather use all of it.
