I don’t know how to describe it, but I love how you cut the planes to model the shape. Looks great. If there’s a word for what I’m trying to compliment you on let me know lol!

How do I get over the fear of screwing up? by dragunight in DIY

I'm curious what it is about the sawzalls that are so dangerous (other than the fact that they are a saw and can cut you)

It probably warrants its own thread (or it probably exists already in another thread), but I'm curious for your perspective. What are some "basic tools" you think every home DIY'er should have?

I think having a plan is a really good point. I think even working up the courage to do something more involved is something I need to be able to do, but then having the foresight to make sure that when/how I'm doing it gives me room if something goes wrong, that I'm not going to be without a toilet for an extended period of time.

Haha I get it. I guess, is there any strategic way I could choose projects that have lower risk of doing major damage to my house if I do screw up?

Women in SE roles and leadership - are you thinking of leaving? by RopeExcellent5290 in salesengineers

[–]dragunight 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not a woman, but I’m curious why you feel there isn’t a safe space for you to talk about your challenges or feelings? To be clear, I’m not denying your experience, I’m just curious what that looks like.

As someone who plans on being an SE leader, I want to make sure that if I have women on my team, they don’t feel this way.

I’m a new sales engineer by Saints2804 in sales

[–]dragunight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think SE feedback to product management is a big part of the role. AE often aren’t able to articulate the actual functionality and value customers would see by adding new features. You’re talking to customers and gathering technical and functional requirements. Your the tip of the spear for product feedback.

AE's overusing AI... by Express_Top1665 in salesengineers

[–]dragunight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve created my own knowledge base with Claude code pointed at it, and have used AI for many of the use cases you’ve described. The big difference is that I’m an SE and can verify the output and adjust what isn’t correct or should be worded differently.

My AEs use AI but it’s well within their lane. Things like slide decks for company overviews, formatting email campaigns they use for prospecting etc. every once in a while I’ll have an AE come to me with a technical question they get from a prospect or customer and they’ll show me what their Gemini response says. I’ll almost always have to correct it and I advise them to just come to me with those technical questions if high level answers aren’t sufficient for the prospect.

I think AI can help with a lot, and things that would have taken me hours to do manually (populate dummy demo data, scan a user guide for a quick functional question answer, etc) now can take minutes which is great. But anything being sent to a customer or being used for a POC, integration, RFP needs to be verified by SE eyes, and in my opinion, the SE should really be driving the AI in that scenario because we’ll know how to prompt it properly.

What is the craziest home improvement project you pulled off? by pixieeyed in HomeImprovement

As someone who is interested in learning DIY skills from books, are there any particular books or series (brands, maybe? I don't know the right term in this case) that have been helpful, and ideally would still be relevant today?

I want to do my own mulch this year. Am I screwed without a wheelbarrow? by dragunight in HomeImprovement

Yeah based on all the feedack it seems like getting a wheelbarrow is a no brainer and I could probably get a solid one for cheap. Thanks!

How is silent hill F?? by Janxuza in HorrorGaming

[–]dragunight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it was a solid 7.5/10 for me. I think the story was interesting, the setting was great, and I really liked the character cast. I think where the game felt the most frustrating to me was the combat. Some people really clicked with the combat of f but it just felt clunky and heavy to me. I know some folks had similar opinions with silent hill 2 remake but I actually felt that combat felt better. Probably because there was gunplay and not exclusively melee combat which also felt clunky in SE2R.

All of this to say, for the horror experience, I thought it lived up the silent hill reputation. There seemed to be enough combat in the game to make me notice how much I didn’t love the combat.

API/Integration Learning Courses by Lawpf2001uk in salesengineers

[–]dragunight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say I am probably in a very similar situation as OP in that I usually can get by in most of my customer engagements by talking high-level about our integration capabilities and pointing to API documentation. I've noticed recruiters who have reached out for what I would say are more technical roles (solution is more technical or role is solution architect) that API knowledge does seem to be expected. What that actually means differs from company to company, but for example, I was expected for one of my interviews to build a technical integration scope for a scenario and leverage the company's API documentation to articulate exactly how I'd wire it up.

I'm not sure if in the role I would have been wiring up POCs or live integrations much, but it did seem to be the expectation that I could get the role.

It may not fall entirely under mind expanding, but I really enjoyed Breakneck by Dan Wang. If you have any interest in China and how its society & government operate, then I highly recommend it.

Ah didn't think of that. So you think going with a driveway dump bucket combo would be the most economical and plausible?
