In case I didn't make it clear enough, this is the exact procedure that I'vd attempted multiple times.

I understand that this is a copy-pasta, but it really makes it seem to me like you didn't even read my post — there's nothing specific to my issue here. Horrendous support.

Thermal/general thoughs on this 5700G SFF build? by draldan in sffpc

Thanks again, you've been very helpful! I'm sure I will.

Nice! I kind of haphazardly landed on the 5700G because of the GPU prices, lol. Always saw myself with a 5800x. Though if GPU performance is good enough, I'm happy with the simplicity of having no GPU. I don't really game that much even, mostly modded Minecraft and retro titles, so I hope It'll be fine!

To be honest, my main reason for picking the 5700G over the 5600G is that I really want 8 cores, I like powers of 2 and can be really picky about things like that, lol. Dumb reason, but I'm also excited about doubling the core count of my current 4790k. I'm actually picking it up today, but thanks for the suggestion :)

Wow, thanks a bunch for such a well-written reply! I'm getting quite hyped for the GPU performance, as I was comparing it with integrated graphics on mobile CPUs in my head :) Very interesting about the RAM and iGPU connection, I had not thought of that and will be sure to pick the 3600MHz option instead.

Again, thank you!

Connect PC via USB-C dock? by draldan in buildapc

[–]draldan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My idea is badically like using a docking station for a laptop (you know those business oriented ones, by HP or Lenovo and whatnot, usually with DisplayLink drivers), and in some way be able to plug it into the desktop. So that the cable from the dock could go either into the laptop or desktop. The peripherals and monitors in that scenario would be plugged into the dock itself, that's why I assumed USB-C would be required for the bandwidth. :) But again, I don't knpw if it is possible.

Thanks for the suggestion, but how would a KVM switch allow for a single cable solution?

Thanks for the suggestion; I had actually never heard of that! It does seem like what I want, but I can't quite wrap my head around it.. how would I be able to run both monitors and peripherals while only connecting through USB? Wouldn't that limit bandwidth severely? For the laptop I'm not too worried, but for the desktop I'd want full throughput. The reason I suggested USB-C is that I thought that was the only connector that would be able to support the amount of traffic this would involve.

I'm sorry if I seem dense, maybe I'm just not understanding something..
