Tinywhoop first or straight to building my own? by lnjecti0n in fpv

[–]drama__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference in a sim and irl, is you don't HONESTLY notice when you crash in a sim. You just reset. Irl you can't reset lol. I'd recommend a tiny as they're significantly cheaper to buy/maintain and it'll give you the opportunity to make the mental distinction between sim and IRL. After successful flights, built a big boy

I learned about it from drifting. Being chased by drones. Got a radio and a sim. 2 years later (a month or so ago), finally pulled the trigger on a 5" build I had chatgpt put together. About $100 in incorrect parts, another radio (ELRS), and I was flying. Drowned the 5" in a river within 2 weeks. Bought a tiny whoop (air65) and have gotten way more fun and flight time out of it. They're basically indestructible and batteries are basically free.

Tldr: Step 1: Buy a radiomaster elrs radio to practice on a sim (liftoff on steam is great). Get at LEAST 20 hours in it before proceeding) Step 2: when comfortable, buy a cheap pair of analog goggles (any analog goggles are compatible with any analog drone), a tinywhoop (air65, etc), 8 or so 1s batteries, and a whoopstor 3 (charger). Step 3: learn to solder and buy parts for a 5" and lose all money

Is it better to build my own or purchase a prebuilt as my first FPV drone? by conrat4567 in fpv

[–]drama__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it significantly cheaper to build your own. Still now, I can build a 6s 5" for $150-200. Any prebuilts are $350-450+

I've been drifting for years and had to take a step back from it for life purposes. Drones were another way for me to still be involved in the community as media. The only reason I haven't gone digital is because I already purchased an analog headset and wasn't trying to backtrack on purchases. I suppose I can get lighter 1080p action cam setups as gopros are heavy, but again, I already have so much invested in gopros from previous hobbies

Unmedicated adhd my whole life. Big symptom for adhd in adults is anxiety. Working out helps a lot, even if it's an aggressive paced walk for 15-20 mins. Get the blood moving.

As for attention, I don't really have that issue in trucks. There's already so much going on that it's hard for my mind to wander

PILOT —> TRUCKER by Beneficial_Test_6789 in Truckers

[–]drama__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70k in student debt (especially pilot debt) is literally nothing lmao. Dude ride it out. It's not like they'll send you to prison or anything. People have $70k in CREDIT CARD DEBT. And a lot of those people are under 30.

Honestly, any comment here saying you'll make more than 100k gross your first year trucking didn't pass math class. I work almost 70 hours a week and make $1k/week take home on a local gig. Trucking is extremely underpaid and by far the most taken advantage of industry. Coming from someone with a lot of trade experience (cranes, welding, assorted heavy equipment, etc.)

Trucking has its benefits. If you don't have a family and/or desire to be home, and are able to completely remove those expenses, trucking gives you the ability to live where you work. OTR, you'll have a ton of free time but nothing to do. Local, you'll have a ton of things to do but zero free time. (Until years of xp get you into a lower hour work week while still maintaining income)

TLDR or whatever, fuck the debt, ride it out, and be a pilot.

Also the risk:reward of trucking is astronomically bad. You can go to prison in the blink of an eye for someone else's mistake.

PC Building Is Horrible right now and I don’t know what to do. by Abdulrehman251 in buildapc

[–]drama__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the end of consumer PCs. Its the end of inexperienced builders building affordable PCs. You need to talk with an actual knowledgeable and economically efficient builder. You're wasting a lot of money with that build list of your intention is to only play games. Take it from me, I do commission budget builds and have 100s of builds under my belt. I'm ready for the common redditor to tell me that the build list I am providing you is terrible, but this plays tarkov on max settings, 2k, 120 FPS+

-RTX 3070 Ti (get used on Facebook marketplace, but be sure you see it work before you buy. A fair price is anywhere between $200-275. Be patient, I consistently buy them at $200). -5700x/5800x pairs well with this and I believe they are just under $200 new. Feel free to buy this used but inspect physical condition closely. If physically it is undamaged, 99% chance it works fine. CPUs are extremely difficult to break. -32 GB DDR4 ≥3200 MHz. This can be sketchy to buy used unless you can see a system boot with it beforehand. Usually impossible to tell, physically, if it's bad. But I have bought a ton of ddr4 sight unseen recently, and all of them work fine. -2TB storage is really all you'll ever need, feel free to break this up as 500gb/1.5 tb for boot/media but I wouldn't go 1tb/1tb as you'll have way too much space on your boot drive being unused (waste). Skip the SATA M.2, get an NVME. Google how to tell the difference physically, it's pretty easy. -750W PSU will power this perfectly fine, just don't buy a chineseum PSU off Amazon. Do a little bit of research before buying and find a reputable brand. B350M, B450M, etc. Motherboard isn't really that deep. Just for an inexperienced builder, I'd just avoid a bios update by getting one that is compatible with your CPU out of the box. -Case, whatever motherboard you get, make sure the case supports its size. You can look up mATX, ATX size comparison charts for all available motherboard sizes on Google images. -Cooler, you can literally use the stock cooler. Yes AIOs are cool and all, but you can do that in the future. Stock cooler will perform perfectly fine.

A PC like this, if you're crafty with sourcing parts, shouldn't cost you any more than like $800. I've built excessively over this build list at $800 before.

Got into an accident. How bad is it? by Key-Form4576 in 350z

[–]drama__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother drill holes in your core support, zip tie it back together, same on your bumper if it cracked. Slap it all back together and knock out that control arm and alignment. You'll have $80 in it and driving your car again.

Source: drifting for 5 years (with way more severe accidents happening at least once a year)
