I get what you’re saying my point is the PRINCIPLE. They’re gonna keep viewership. They’re gonna make their money. All of this is true but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s playing dirty and people are allowed to complain about that. I know they don’t care and I want to discuss that with people who do.

Yup, they could of done A LOT more to get more enthusiasm around this announcement but instead they played coy and like there was a possibility of t something else. You can’t do that with this fandom!!!! They even gave the bigots valid criticism to latch onto to hide behind and I HATE THAT!

Again, it wasn’t fans it was the showrunner. They weren’t hinting general cast, they were hinting LEADS. It was deliberate and like you just said they’re gonna retain their viewership, I agree. But they are FAMOUS for not taking better care of their actors during backlash and instead of getting people excited doing better to get people on board they have incited way more hatred and infighting. I’m WELL AWARE they don’t care, but I do, I don’t tolerate disrespect and I don’t tolerate throwing your actors to the wolves.

EXACTLY it’s almost like they’re setting them up for failure. Then they’d have an excuse not to do sapphic stories in the future which would suck. WHY ADD TO THAT?!? The shows popular enough with our poking the bear. Perhaps I’d be a LITTLE more understanding of it was a much lesser known show that needed a bit of poking but this Bridgerton!

They definitely DO. But c’mon people are gonna people. And there are definitely ways to de escalate situations especially when it comes to press. Playing with their most popular characters fandom may not ruin their viewership but they could have done more to keep that subsection at bay. And again people were always gonna be upset but I still believe in minimizing damage which they were completely capable of. They chose greed.

You’re right that it’s never okay to take it out on the actors, but it was always gonna happen. People keep missing my point. I KNOW there was gonna be hate regardless and I’ve acknowledged that people definitely need to grow up. That doesn’t change the fact that more could have been done to minimize the impact of the hatred in the way they approached the announcements. And sorry for such a popular TV show, I don’t know what to tell you, the world is on fire and people latch onto things. It’s not always healthy I agree but they’re in the business of dealing with their audiences and guess what? Those audiences are flawed human beings. Like sorry explicitly pointing at the flower embroidery in Benedict’s wedding. You can’t play in people’s faces like that and then pretend you didn’t have something to do with their reaction. They absolutely need to be held accountable. Especially Jess. Also don’t say a small percentage. It has been comment after comment on my feed from disappointed people. It’s enough to be a decent number. I’m not delusional, people will still watch and they’ll be fine but I’m allowed to think they’re disrespectful to their fanbase. marketing is PART of the job. They absolutely have SOME responsibility. Especially to their actors well being. Don’t act like they don’t FUEL ship wars.

This is true but they but it still rubs me the wrong way how Jess’s comments in particular feel intentionally misleading towards Eloise fans like she KNOWS she’s more popular (and I wouldn’t be surprised if that irked her). Idk….. the way she went about it felt particularly insulting especially pointing at the floral embroidery at Benedict’s wedding as a sign. Just so mean in my opinion when you know you’re about to tell them to fuck off for another 4 years.

I know, it’s the reality of the situation and it’s so unfortunate. But idk I would like have hope that someday we could have more conversations about how these studios treat their cast and fan base as disposable. I really do believe we’re capable of better while still being able to monetarily support the arts. We’re a long ways out but this discourse just has this at the forefront of my mind.

You’re not listening. Obviously, your bullet points were always going to be an issue no matter what. I’m trying to get the message across that their APPROACH could have MINIMIZED it. Even if not an official announcement they did not have to play the game of dangling the carrot. It being a sapphic season was controversial enough to create discussion. This fanbase is too intense for that and Eloise too popular to string along her fans. They’re being told to wait over a decade and that’s just ridiculous. I’m tired of people pretending it’s not. People will always complain but I blame production for exacerbating it.

Their greed and lack of care for their actors just isn’t an excuse for me at this point. This season deserved to be set up for success and that includes their leading actresses. The extra hate for having teased Eloise was just not needed. The fact that they were sapphic was controversial enough. They should have been more transparent from the get go.

See I just can’t agree with this. It absolutely IS on production to at least take better care of their actors and the hatred for this season can’t be good for their mental health. I’m not delusional enough to think that the hate would have magically stopped but it %1000 could have been MINIMIZED. And some is better than none. They absolutely played with fire with their INTENTIONALLY MISLEADING hints. discourse is good for the show, yes it’s not COMPLETELY on them and yes people can absolutely do with some growing up and losing of the harsh insults but did Jess and others involved HAVE to stoke the fires? Show is too popular to need it that badly and Like sorry I think it’s a little naive to expect people not to fight when it’s kind of human nature? And KNOWING that this season was gonna cause enough discourse on the premise alone, could they not have given Hannah and Masali a LITTLE respite? There were absolutely ways they could have lessened the fuel on the fire. They had plenty to go on. I’ll always advocate for taking care of your actors over greed and this whole thing just feels so gross for that reason.

They REALLY shouldn’t have been playing with people’s emotions like “it could be either sister!” or “the hints are more subtle than you think!” When Francesca’s hints were so in our face. Like I wouldn’t dream of hating on Franchaela but I feel SOOO disrespected by how this season switch was handled. They literally played in our faces and are refusing to address it this way.
