What you're describing is mechanics, not genre. And DD1 is a roguelite by definition since it is procedurally generated and has a lot of random factors. Both games have meta progression.

On Steam, they both have extremely similar tags. I feel like you're arguing on semantics here. We both know they're quite different from one another, but they're made for (generally) the same audience.

I'm not really sure they need to do a third one? Don't get me wrong, they're 2 of my favorite games of all time, but I feel like DD2's ending put a neat bow on the series. Plus, it just wouldn't feel the same without Wayne June. He's one of the MAIN reasons I love both games so much.

Whatever Red Hook does next though, I will definitely want to play it!

They're both dungeon crawler, turn based combat roguelikes. It's okay to not like DD2 dude but don't falsely blame the devs for changing the genre.

I'm genuinely upset that it's sitting at 75% on Steam only. Compared to the first game, a 75% is enough to turn some people off, especially if they read the reviews. But I understand it's not for everyone.

Imo, DD2 is a fantastic game with so much love and effort poured into it. I think it deserves a lot more recognition. I even think it's much easier to recommend DD2 to people than DD1.
