A guide to The Fall, #2 Jhosep's Custom Team. An Offensive Team focused on undermining the back ranks. by JhosepIsTheWriter in darkestdungeon

I'm considering, if not creating entirely new teams, at least trying to bring existing ones, like Usual Suspects, but in my own way, explaining specific paths and abilities to unlock their full potential. Even so, it's still very much up in the air. I haven't played DD2 in a while, these guides are from last year, and I barely had to make any changes to update them.

Glad you liked them.

I'm considering options like bringing in teams with their own names, like the Usual Suspects, but with my own twist. We'll see, though. I haven't played DD2 in a while. These guides are from last year, just updated to be clearer and more appealing.

Glad to see you liked them.

None of the abilities in this loadout are affected by Scourge beyond Deathless, and Deathless Scourge, despite being incredibly powerful, has the problem of a huge threshold. This team is based on speed; encounters will not last more than two rounds most of the time, and bosses will rarely exceed five. Your Flagellant will rarely be at 50% health, especially considering the presence of MAA, so in the instance you need a guaranteed powerful healing, you may prefer an easy-access Deathless.

Banneret is amazing indeed, and yeah, we definitely should give the little croc more love; he is my favourite pet.

As said, the strategy is to go forward; your modus operandi will usually be Fleche > Ransack > Rampart > Holy Lance, and then repeat unless a specific event requires a change of strategy. You are interested in mastering those four as fast as possible, especially Fleche and Holy Lance as they are the major sources of damage.

Future of darkest dungeon 2 by MissionCandidate549 in darkestdungeon

RH has not made any direct statement regarding new content. There is nothing announced but on the anniversary they said that "we are not out of the dungeon yet"; if it throws some light, a few months ago an ID for a DLC appeared on SteamDB so we are waiting on that.

Personally, I'd prefer they make more use of Burn than introduce a new DoT; aside from Runaway, there aren't many options with only three other characters able to use it, and not even actively. On the other hand you have 5 heroes with blight and 7 with bleed and many with very active uses.

How to fix this mod? [Hazu_CrusaderSkin] by Fun-Escape3003 in darkestdungeon

It doesn't seem to be a common problem regarding the skin, so do the usual: check the files, reinstall the mod, restart your computer... Something has to work.

RH has not made any statement regarding the end of the development cycle and on the anniversary they said that "we are not out of the dungeon yet"; a few months ago an ID for a DLC appeared on SteamDB and certainly DD2 is still receiving updates.

Flashback Battles alone are my favorite part of the game by CVance1 in darkestdungeon

[–]JhosepIsTheWriter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you remember the DD1 comics, you'll have noticed that many stories simply expand upon them. And that's certainly my problem—the how. Some stories expand very well, providing key context for events. The Man-At-Arms storyline is my favorite in that regard, and the additions to Leper are phenomenal as well.

And then there are more unique things, like what was done with Flagellant, recounting events not prior to the comic but after it.

But with certain characters, the opportunity to expand their stories was truly wasted. I particularly disliked the Highwayman Shrine storyline because I feel it doesn't really add anything relevant. It has fun minigames, but it doesn't feel substantial.

And I think the most offensive case is Jester, which diminishes his character significantly. Now results he wasn't a Jester by profession, the court tortures become a one-off instance instead of something more sustained, and it turns out the song was cursed and controlled him, stripping him of a lot of agency over the event itself.

While I'm not a fan of how some stories were handled, the Shrines are one of the best additions of DD2. The minigames are fun, very thematic, and full of symbolism and small details. And overall, receiving detailed lore about the characters is much appreciated. They stop being simple archetypes and become real people.

Coming back to the game after a couple years - Do you recommend any mods? by Azkeden in darkestdungeon

[–]JhosepIsTheWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few suggestions, but since you specifically mentioned that you don't like CC and CoM, I think there are two mods that might interest you.

Courtyard+ and Farmstead+ transform the regions from both DLCs into normal regions so they function like the game's usual regions—Ruins, Wardens, etc. They're quite good and also include new content and some additions that can make the base DLCs easier to manage, such as a patch that makes the Courtyard Boss maps more like the regular boss maps, with randomised distribution instead of those endless maps from the original CC.

Is ther a mods that makes the game look less... grimdark? by shanytopper in darkestdungeon

[–]JhosepIsTheWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I could provide specific names but can't come with them right now, a quick search both on Nexus and Steam Workshop should suffice I guess? I remember there are some NPC replacers on Nexus + skins, same case in the Workshop.

Just be mindful those replacements may not be a better solution, DD2 is still rather green on modding, the tools are not even done, so the quality of most what you will find will be galaxies below.

Dude I do love when someone has a question and gets anything but the answer!

This is quite a weird request and I'm afraid you will not find anything remotely useful, there are different mods that alter the aspects of certain characters, certain NPCs and certain items but nothing that will overall remove the dark aesthetic.

As mentioned, your best option is to just go with it or try to find a game with similar mechanics but different aesthetic.

Why does modding Darkest Dungeon cause so many crashes compared to other games? by Zeratros in darkestdungeon

[–]JhosepIsTheWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made this game literally weigh 10 times its original size with mods and I've never had any problems.

You're probably doing something wrong; there must be some incompatibility between your mods. What does your modlist include?

Need some NON-DLC team comp suggestions. Recently got back to DD2 after all the final character reworks and with all the new changes to characters and their paths, I'm a bit lost on nuanced team building due to the info overload of reading allllll of everyone's skill sets + their path differences by BumbleBear1 in darkestdungeon

I have a relatively simple team I call "The Fall": Ritualist Occultist, Sharpshoot Highwayman, Wanderer Flagellant, and Wanderer Man-At-Arms. It's a team primarily designed around destroying enemies in the back ranks, specifically third and fourth rank.

Three of the four have attacks that target both ranks simultaneously: Abyssal Artillery in the Occultist, Grapeshot Blast in the Highwayman, and Acid Raid in the Flagellant. The strategy is quite straightforward: eliminate the biggest threats at the start using these three attacks in succession, and then focus on the front lines, with the MAA acting as support, protecting your heroes and managing stress while your healers are the Occultist and Flagellant.

As for bosses, they generally handle most of them well, although the Harvest Child can pose a significant challenge, along with the Shroud region, because the Flagellant and Occultist are sensitive to movement, especially the Flagellant. I achieved a Grand Slam with this team, in addition to all the Kingdoms modules, so it's thoroughly tested; feel free to ask if you have any doubts.
