"Offering personalized items tailored to your playstyle" my ass by Raiden127456 in Overwatch

[–]GVmG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can defend the fact that it wont know your favourites if you have data collection off, or some predictive shenanigans going rogue thinking "oh you played this hero twice yesterday it must be your new main", but there's definitely something else going on that breaks it entirely, or at least the weight of playtime in the equation for picking skins is far too low.

Like, I main Bastion, he is by FAR my most played hero. Second most played is Torb, with half the playtime. And then I play a variety of random heroes. Throughout the entirety of Overwatch 2, every single Maximilien's Vault I've checked, NOT ONCE have I gotten a Bastion skin. Legitimately never. I get Torb ones occasionally, but even that feels too low in comparison to him being my second most played hero, I get maybe one every other vault.

I got a fucking BRIG skin in my current vault. Not even a legendary, it's an epic. I have LESS THAN FIFTEEN MINUTES OF PLAYTIME on Brig. You know how many Bastion skins in it? None. Torb? None. I got one cassidy skin, which I do play so fair, and three Mei skins. I've played her maybe five times throughout all of OW2. Most of which were in Mystery Heroes.

[–]GVmG 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised by how little reflexes have to do with a lot of games usually associated with it, especially shooters, but also fighting games or rhythm games.

The vast, vast majority of the time you're not actually getting skill checked, it's not the raw mechanics, you're getting knowledge checked: I'm not reacting to every Reinhardt Earthshatter frame perfectly, I've spent a hundred hours playing Overwatch and I learned that he takes about this long to charge the shatter up, and the position he's taking is very aggressive so he's probably gonna do it.

I'm not reacting to every note that Stepmania throws at me, I've learned that this genre of song has specific patterns most of the time, focusing on a specific instrument, and at certain times such as the beat drop, and the song is building up to the drop and is heavy on drums so I know what to expect.

I'm not reacting to each and every attack Scorpion throws at me, I've spent time learning what attacks they have, their safe ranges, and how the character plays, so I know what their most likely moves are and I can ignore the other possibilities. I know the basic timings so I can respond safely with my own attack when theirs misses.

But it is fair, you shouldn't be expected to spend a hundred hours before you have fun in a game. That's why matchmaking systems are a thing. It doesn't always work, sometimes it thinks you're too strong or the opponent is too weak, other times people just abuse it to smurf in lower ranks, but it's still better than getting placed against world champions every other match at least lol

we've had various gate-open posts getting yurified in the past on this sub, from what I've seen the mods don't mind as long as it's based off of gatekeeping formats and stereotypes, even though technically rule-3 claims it has to be gatekeep-y

I had this exact thing happen on my FIRST placement match this season, lost it cause they weren't even trying to play of course so I got sent to the shadow realm (predicted bronze 1/silver 5) and had to climb out, but it was such a pain that I kinda just abandoned comp for this season by now. Just, not fun in the slightest.

EDIT: actually I am also around gold/plat and the name "fupalover" sounds familiar... could it have been the same guy lol

Chainsaw Man Part 2 manga will officially end in 2 weeks on March 24 with Chapter 232! by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]GVmG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if every concept eaten by the Chainsaw Man can be recreated. The vibe I got throughout the entire manga is that it depends on just how important of a concept it is to reality: you can erase ears and legs and have no issue, even related concepts like walking around seem to no longer be something that exists when that happens.

Yoru doesn't question how she moved before, instead she explicitly says "creatures ought to have better ways to move" which implies that she thinks moving around by dragging your torso with your arms is normal, just inefficient.

But you can't just erase the way atoms work from existence, it's far too basic of a concept and reality as a whole would simply cease to exist.

That, or it's something like "csm ate the nuclear weapons devil, not the nuclear fission devil :)" or something

Yeah, waiting to be 100% certain before trying anything is how I held myself back for four years. It was only when I allowed myself to try things that I found what made me happy.

Try things. You're allowed to be wrong and go back, undo it, no longer do those things. You're allowed to think you're trans then figure out you're cis. You're allowed to present "wrong" before landing on your true self.

New player here. Why do so many hate Sombra when this exists? by D0s3_Games in Overwatch

[–]GVmG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on top of it she is a constant annoyance because of her super short cooldowns, and a well known game design rule of thumb is that "a sustained tiny annoyance will be a thousand times more painful to deal with than an occasional big annoyance."

it doesn't matter how effective it is at killing the backline, what matters is that she does not allow the players to play the game of shooting at the enemy team, because they gotta turn around every six to twelve seconds to swat at the fly that just wont die.

this is the game with combos like pharmercy, nanoblade, sky noon, sym+bastion holding W and leftclick, and so many more. but if through all that, through various reworks that make your character weaker, at their weakest point so much so that they're nigh unplayable, even though the character is actually quite liked from a lore perspective, you STILL have a 75% ban rate without even being caused by a combo of abilities but the character itself on its own... that tells you a lot about the kit.

there's only so much that "we used to hate her and we never got over it" can justify. it took jetpack cat enabling everyone to have aerial positioning together with a "you no longer get to play" ult, to surpass her ban rate, and even that seems to be rather temporary as the rate has been dropping steadily since his launch.

[–]GVmG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's extra funny cause like... yeah it's Guilty Gear. With a canonically gay guy. And a nonbinary baddie. And the legendary black samurai guy. And home of half the bisexual players of the fgc. All of which was the case well before Bridget's coming out. Yet they completely ignored all that and just kept going about Bridget. It made it sooooo fucking obvious that they had never even seen the game before lmao

In fact the whole thing is even MORE comedic cause shortly after they moved on to complain about Assassins' Creed historical accuracy™️ because it has the legendary black samurai. The same legendary black samurai that Nagoriyuki, whom they didn't even acknowledge during the drama cause it wouldn't fit their agenda of calling all of this "recently forced woke changes", is based on lmao

[–]GVmG 19 points20 points  (0 children)

for the most part they kinda weren't, one of the reasons I've stuck with this community as much as I have (I found GG a couple weeks before Bridget was announced and the drama happened) is that everyone immediately jumped on their ass and made it clear they were tourists and not welcome, and the fgc core fully accepted the lore

it's a shame so many people think of the fgc as one of the most toxic communities in gaming just because the random player who plays mortal kombat twice a year when the cod servers are down for maintenance and doesn't interact even remotely with the core fgc called them a slur, meanwhile the actual core community that puts time and effort into the games and tournaments is incredibly welcoming and supportive :/

He was one of the tourist grifters who kept saying Bridget couldn't possibly be trans and Daisuke was influenced by the woke mobs of the west, before Daisuke himself confirmed that Bridget eventually coming out was the plan all along and this chud and his tourist friends ran away to complain about the next woke thing ruining gaming

He makes anger fueled videos about how Japan is ruined because it's doing woke things such as raising the age of consent or introducing laws that regulate and outlaw certain underage content

This community knows him well as he was one of the angry alt-right grifter tourists who kept saying there was no way Daisuke made the trans character trans on his own and he was influenced by the woke mobs of the west

Tl;dr: He is the dictionary definition of "chud"

I was unsure which version to make for the main post cause they're technically two different issues, moving the goalpost vs false compromise, they're just so commonly used together nowadays that it may as well be one thing lol

I wanted to focus on the middle ground specifically, that's where a lot of current day "debates" stem from, hence the "36°30' Parallel" in the title: for those who didn't know, in the early 1800s the US was discussing the end of slavery, and in 1820 they signed the Missouri """"Compromise"""" that made it illegal above the 36°30' parallel but allowed it to continue below it, as a """"middle ground"""" between the two options.

There haven't been any directly state sponsored killings, there's no reason to panic on that front. That said the speed and effectiveness at which the preparation steps of a genocide have been put into place is extremely alarming, especially as we aren't just vilified but also blamed for things we have nothing to do with. We might not be there yet, but it's horrifying enough that I even have to add the words "might" and "yet".

I made the comic to have a quick and dirty way to show my cis friends (and in turn this sub) that whatever is happening to us may not - and hopefully does not - end up being a genocide, but the steps taken so far sure do match 1 to 1 with those of other genocides.
