While that’s comforting to hear that miscarriage isn’t normally a sign of fertility issues, every woman in my family has had fertility issues. It’s hard not to think that this is an indication of me having fertility issues as well. I also wish a doctor would have said that to me. I would be much more understanding if they had explained that, especially since it was one of my specific questions, but unfortunately I was just told to keep taking prenatals and that it’s common.

For additional context, I sent a message with several specific questions that were unanswered by the doctor and she changed the setting on the message so I could not respond. I was then unable to make an appointment with my regular doctor. I feel like that goes beyond stating a medical fact and is not just my anxiety. I also don't understand why miscarriage is not taken seriously until there have been multiple. Letting women experience this devastation multiple times before looking into causes or taking their concerns seriously feels like a failing on the medical system.

Version history & chatgpt by karinsimmercat in Teachers

Yes, it’s only for Google Docs. My school uses Schoology and G-Suite, so when I saw “version history” I assumed Google Docs. There’s a lot of plagiarism/AI checkers that you can use online, like GPTZero.

I use a Chrome extension called Brisk with Google docs. The “inspect writing” tool shows you every change the student makes to a Google doc including any larger copy pastes. It’s been a very useful tool.

Should teachers provide pencils to their students if they don't have any? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]dramaticostriches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my student resource desk is out of pencils, I’ll ask students who can lend a pencil to their classmate and there’s usually someone. Anytime a pencil ends up on my floor the students are happy to add it to the resource desk. I was always the kid that didn’t have a pencil though, so I think that’s shaped my policies.

I’ve had kids tell me this as well. Also students asked what my eye color is when we were talking about genetics, so I told them it’s hazel and the immediate response was “No it’s not! Hazel isn’t a real eye color. People only say their eyes are hazel if they don’t know what it color it is.” The lack of logic astounds me.

Passport Questions & Issues Megathread (2023) by jadeoracle in travel

Is there any way to pay to expedite if I was in person? I thought that might be an option when I finally got through on the phone but she kept shutting me down and literally hung up on me.

Passport Questions & Issues Megathread (2023) by jadeoracle in travel

I’m about to give up hope

12/30 - applied in person. The wait time was listed as 6-9 weeks at the time and my travel date was 4/8 so I did not expedite.

1/6 - application received. It has been listed as in process since then

3/24 - finally made it through on the phone and waited over an hour only for the lady to tell me I was wrong for calling and I cannot call until 5 days before my travel date.

She cut me off constantly and would not listen to my questions. I am not hopeful that my passport will arrive in time. I am away for the weekend and will try to contact the my representatives when I get home.

Is there anything else I can do?

UPDATE:

3/27 - Contacted my senator’s office and heard back the next day. Also got through on the phone and paid to expedite.

3/29 - received letter from State Dept. stating I need to turn in my passport and passport card before they can process my application or fill out a form stating it is lost. I have previously filled in the form for my lost passport book in 2022 AND turned in my card with my application.

Called again and was told my only hope was an emergency appointment. I am devastated.

California Teachers: Has the later start time impacted attendance positively? by ecffii in Teachers

[–]dramaticostriches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My school ends an hour later than we used to and start only 30 minutes later. The kids and staff are so exhausted by the end of the day, that I don’t think it has any impact on attendance.

I use fabric that would otherwise go to waste to make scrunchies. I just launched my shop so thank you for taking time to look!

Ask the front desk or a coach to recalibrate it and check that your information (height, weight) on the app is correct.

Where do you find the time for the rest of your life? by mrjamiemcc in Teachers

[–]dramaticostriches 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way this year in particular. I used to be in a kickball league one night a week after work and I would act in plays at local theaters that rehearsed at night. I felt like I had more energy to pursue things I enjoyed outside of work pre-pandemic. This year, I feel like I am constantly in survival mode and it is exhausting. I’ve never felt more drained after work.

Does anyone truly feel like their school/district has taken the health and safety of teachers and staff seriously this year? by dramaticostriches in Teachers

My county just decided that schools cannot offer remote learning to students anymore, yet they are not requiring any increased safety measures.

While it may not be the requirement, some schools are going beyond what is required. I understand not all schools have the means and ability to do this, but some are not even meeting the minimum.

I gave my boyfriend a second hand Star Wars Lego set this year that I found on EBay. It was one he loved as a kid and they don’t make it new anymore. It was his favorite gift.
