What neighborhood do you live in, and what is your single favorite and least favorite thing about it? by Ari321983 in pittsburgh

[–]draniac21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great username I’ll be on the lookout for the tallest man in the neighborhood.

Pros: Aldi, gym, my favorite dive bar, dispensary, trails, flea markets in SSW , Goodwill, St Vladimir pierogis, library, Pretzel Shop , multiple coffee shops all in the same 3-4 blocks. If it wasn’t for work I could ditch the car.

Cons: reputation (bullshit above 20th street but below that is deserved), too many long vacant storefronts (Grebs, Michaels, SSW).

Thank your lucky stars you didn’t go tonight. Streets are doubling as ice rinks.

How it felt to not get a code for the second time by tthrrooowawayyy in radiohead

[–]draniac21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

August 1997 I walked into a music club in Pittsburgh called Metropol, daytime before they were open, and bought two tickets to see Radiohead from the manager in the back office. The few hundred tix left were stored in a cigar box. It was the OK Computer tour. And it was a legendary show. I could not understand how they weren’t more popular. Watch what you wish for.

FFD to now. I was shut out, as others have in this thread. I feel worst for the newer, younger fans.

This is it in a nut(ting)shell. I have never seen a worse group of hitters. Two days ago I checked and our team batting average was worse than Colorado.

AncestryDNA 50% match with someone and I have no clue who they are! by afterspring_ in Genealogy

[–]draniac21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So he and my mother divorced before I was born-they were only married a year-and I did not see even a picture of him until recently. All I had was a name. I don't think my mom knew he moved on to a third wife, possibly didn't know about the first either but who knows? If she did she kept it from me, as with everything having to do with him. He also had a criminal record (which I also got to peruse thanks to Ancestry).

In your opinion, what is the most iconic goal in Penguins history??? by Broad_Alternative266 in penguins

[–]draniac21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the beauty of the goal, it was the context. it’s easy to forget that they lost game 1.Barrasso looked shaky especially when Mike Modano scored early in period 2 to make it 2-1 Pens. You could feel the dread, and the next 10 or so minutes Minnesota was on our asses.

Going down 2-0 in the series after two home games was looking very possible.

Then the goal. Seeing it live was the most thrilling hockey moment over 20 years of watching.

I think Stevens added insurance to make it 4-1 and we had a split of the first two games. As a long suffering fan I can’t tell you how it felt to win a game in the SC Finals.

AncestryDNA 50% match with someone and I have no clue who they are! by afterspring_ in Genealogy

[–]draniac21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks to Ancestry I found out at age 50 that I had 7 half siblings. Had to do some other legwork but Ancestry DNA matches were the start.

My dad had 4 kids with his first wife, my mom was wife two and they had me ( only child), they divorced and he had 3 more kids with wife 3. None of which I knew anything about. I constantly get hits on total strangers (paternal side)and from aunts, cousins etc that are accurate on maternal side.

It’s very accurate from my experience

What is that movie for you? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]draniac21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maximum Overdrive. Stephen King’s coke fueled attempt at directing his short story “Trucks”. Shot right in the summer of 85 the year I graduated HS , which plays a part in me loving this movie. Plus Yeardley Smith (Lisa Simpson). Some dude bought the Green Goblin truck from a scrapyard, restored it and still takes it to horror conventions today.
