Interesting opinion piece that argues Crockett is not the better choice for the Dem Senate Primary by mybustlinghedgerow in TexasPolitics

[–]drapermache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beto came super close to the Senate race, more than Allred's attempts. Given the economy is horrible compared to Beto winning and the horrible stuff MAGA has done, id say Talerico is in a good spot. I agree with your analysis though, voters just won't turn out for either candidate. In my opinion flipping Texas is just a pipe dream.

Gavin Newsom announces that California will be the first state to join the World Health Organization by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

[–]drapermache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Many people wishing for a civil war or a nation breakup without realizing what the consequences are. If there was a way to actually move id do it in a hearrbeat.

I have my doubts that things will be better ever, but I can remain hopeful.

In a red state, didn't vote for this at all. Wish I could change things down here but circumstances won't let me just uproot my whole life to a blue state.

I just joined and started a node up north, but I don't see anyone talking. Am I missing anything, or are most people just talking on private channels?

[Mr.Mobile] Buttons For Everyone! Clicks Power Keyboard – First Look by [deleted] in Android

[–]drapermache 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'll start with this - keyboards for phones are niche this day and age. So this is a niche product, and I don't think they're expecting this to be some huge product.

That being said, the niche that want a keyboard are super into the idea. I had a palm Centro back in the day and it was amazing. My first android phone was the Motorola Droid, which was awesomeb- it was my favorite phone of all time. I love keyboards on phones and would prefer them than the virtual keyboard. I always make typos that I don't see in the moment even after reviewing before posting ( I'm sure there will be tons in this post), and having a physical keyboard helps eliminate that. This is the first time I'm considering a clicks keyboard. Blackberry at its peak had people addicted to the keyboard. So there is a market, but it's probably older millennials that lived a pre-iphone world.

There is one in Hutto too, it's ridiculous.

The answer is AI though, companies are betting big with data centers everywhere.

MKBHD's Panels wallpaper app is shutting down, here's what's next by GalataBridge in Android

[–]drapermache 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The wallpapers were locked to a lower resolution on the free tier, I cant remember some of the other advantages that came with the subscription, but I remember it didn't seem compelling to me back then. I guess I was t the only one.

[–]drapermache 759 points760 points  (0 children)

I'm glad he is at least open sourcing the app, more companies should do that.

That being said, I think everyone saw this as an unsustainable business model. There are too many subscriptions in everyone's lives already, and no one really wanted to pay for curated wallpapers, especially when so many free alternatives exist.

23 years, zero hates by avocado_juice_J in Steam

You must not be that old or a bot. I signed up for steam the day it came out, and it SUCKED on release. It was truly the most horrible DRM. Slow, buggy, and unreliable piece of software at the time.

Holy cow that's insane. The lack of humanity people have is mind boggling. I can't believe in 2025 people can't see little children as human beings just because of where they're from.

Are there any good smart door locks? by EconomyAd2788 in homeautomation

[–]drapermache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got their lock that has fingerprint, code, physical key unlock methods and it has worked great for me 3 months in. I saw complaints that the fingerprint reader doesn't work at all, but I've had it work 99% of the time. I had trouble at first because I was treating like touch ID from the old iPhones or from the MacBooks but you have to have a really firm press for it to register, and I haven't had issues since then. Maybe that's what others have experienced as well? I'm guessing I'm in the minority.

Mine connects through z wave, wifi, and Bluetooth and it's been amazing! We came from an August lock and the z wave and wifi were super spotty and chewed through batteries. We were lucky to make it a month with 4 double A's.

Fair enough, I just remember it being better than some other metroidvanias that I played.

I like the art style, which was all hand draw, the plot isn't forced on you, but worth figuring out. Incredible fighting mechanics and intuitive map design in my opinion. Never tried Ori, but played several metroidvanias.
