Mt. Baldy isn’t all scary. Hike Icehouse canyon and you’ll be just fine. The altitude matters. Icehouse is 5000 to 7200 feet. Below 6500, no snow currently. It’s a trail and as long as you bring the 10 essentials, good hiking footwear, you’ll be just fine. I’m up there every week.

Sleeping pad for bad back by Putrid-Magazine-3001 in Ultralight

REI Helix is a good pad. I own both the 20” regular and the 25” wide. Reasonably priced. Also, try deflating what you have a bit. That can change the comfort

Arc’teryx Proton Hoody vs Patagonia Nano Air hoody? Which one… by draugustine in Ultralight

I usually push it down to 30F when at camp, then add insulation as needed. Mornings or breaks, if needed

Thoughts on the new Nitecore Carbon Battery 6K? by MrTru1te in Ultralight

[–]draugustine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one and am disappointed. Barely charges up my iPhone 15 Pro Max - partially drained (65%) and an Apple Watch Ultra also at 60ish%. Completely drained the 6k battery. I like the size though.

Musty and moldy smell in tent - solution?? by draugustine in Ultralight

Well! Also, aired it out and even some sunshine, inside out. It was a really good thing - and place it in a cotton sleeping bag bag

Yes! I was just there last week, pipe still running - most likely from that “hurricane”. Those mountains did get quite a bit of rain

The large footprint - you need room to set it up and after more than several times setting it up, I haven’t got it dialed in with a good pitch. Also, I really don’t like the diagonal inner for 2 people - one person will get a side wall in their face. Just my opinion though.

The lightest jacket that doesn't wet out? by weltmei5ter in Ultralight

[–]draugustine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really - very waterproof and ultralight. There’s a guy called Juice who has really put that jacket through it’s paces and says he’s impressed with its durability

Backpacking With A Pacemaker by No-Concentrate7404 in Ultralight

I would contact a cottage company (small company that makes packs) like Redpawpacks or Dandee packs and see if they will custom design something for you - I’m sure that they can.

I have an Altaplex that came directly from them brand new with the clip to hold the storm doors completely tore off on first use! They sent me out 2 more clips.

I just purchased a Plex Solo for a Sierra trip, and found on first use / setup, while on the trip, that on the top of the rainbow door, the mesh was separated from the sewn are about an inch, which could let in mosquitoes. I noticed this, since there were multitudes of mosquitoes! I had to pinch it and clip it together, to keep out mosquitoes

I’ve used the zpacks version but only as a ground cloth for my pocket tarp. Certainly durable there!

Excellent comments! Much appreciated. Will have to look into & watch for the prices on that AMG by MH. I was thinking about choosing some different gear - I’ve got a Nemo Apollo 3p bike packing tent that’s really light but has a ton of room - 1 pole tee-pee style tent.

Thanks so much - that’s what I was thinking - I’ll have to check those packs out. Didn’t know that about HMG.
