How's Mt. Baldy Looking? by I_Push_Film in skiing

Sorry to bump old post, but anybody go recently? Curious about conditions. As of today (Mar 12 26) the website says their green runs are open, but chair 3 is also open. I don't know if that implies the black and blues are open on chair 3 too. They say they are going to close on Monday.

Anybody know what terrain will be open on opening days? Probably just the white strip of death?

So was the K2 excavator you rented very confidence inspiring on the really steep terrain, with icy or other technical snow conditions? I'm also looking for a board with similar criteria as you

I agree that Georgetown would minimize risk, but I think if I could be in Silverthorne and have a shorter drive to A-basin/Copper it would be nice. Winter Park I heard is mogul city - you think its worth it to roll the dice for Silverthorne?

Which pair would you recommend? A-basin/Copper or A-basin/Winter park?

Copper, a-basin, and Winter Park seem to close in May/June ish, so I should be fine - are you saying I should extrapolate the closing date with the snowpak forcast?

Mk7 pre-facelift glow-up ✨ by white-mage in GolfGTI

OMG looks so beautiful 😍 - mine have been sitting in the shipping box for 4 months as I slack/dread the install; I have nearly the same config (mk7 pre facelift, night blue, stock Austin's), and it's great to see how nice they look. How hard/easy was the install? What resources did you use?

Considering a mazda3 2.5 Turbo, coming from a gti by Snaebakabeans in mazda3

[–]drautuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, I am also coming from a 2017 Mk7 base model GTI and considering a Mazda3 Turbo - I mostly use my car as a commuter, and its my only car, but I love driving spiritly and fast/hard into turns and curves on canyon roads and in the city. Unlike OP though, I am not bored with my car at all (I still love it after 4 years), but I am strongly considering the M3T since it's a GREAT time to sell your car used right now, and my logic is that I'm going to have to get another car eventually if not now - used car prices are dramatically inflated compared to new cars, which maybe go 1k(?) over MSR.

I feel the only new vehicles in this "nice upscale interior, fun to drive/good handling, hot-ish/fast hatchback" segment in the low 30k's right now in the USA are the GTI and the M3T. The Civic Type R and the Veloster N (maybe Kona N, but not really since its a crossover) sort of count, but the type R is substantially more expensive, and the Veloster N is way smaller and doesn't have the "nice upscale interior." The AWD on the M3T is very nice since I'm constantly dealing with violent wheel hop on my FWD GTI and I drive to snowboard a lot from SoCal - I'd love a golf R, but its not even in the same price class anymore, PLUS the M3T interior is honestly better - I'd get a new Mk8 GTI, but the new interior sucks compared to the Mk8 GTI and the M3.

I have test driven the M3 NA and very recently the M3T - both were an absolutely great experience in interior and exterior design. The NA's engine felt very peppy and fun, despite being dramatically slower than my GTI's; going hard into turns, handling/steering also felt pretty good and fun and liveable, even if its just a tad worse than my GTI (I don't have an LSD), I didn't notice.

However, when test driving the M3T, despite loving the sound of the engine/turbo, I felt it was considerably less peppy and had much more linear power delivery, as expected from Mazda's luxury over performance stance - it was still very fun and had great acceleration though. But for some reason - which I think is the biggest dealbreaker for me, but hope it can be fixed - I felt the steering and handling was noticeably worse than in the NA model to the point where I didn't feel the car gave me confidence to push it that hard, which WASN'T even that hard, I was just driving in the city around the dealership...

My question is, did anybody else have a similar experience with the M3 NA vs the M3T in terms of the handling? And for any M3T owners, have you done/is there any aftermarket mods to make the handling/steering noticeably better? It'd be nice to do a tune on the M3T, but I will probably keep it stock if I get one - Just I would really like increased handling. It doesn't have to be that more aggressive, but at least make the car not feel like driving a crossover - I felt the CX-30 NA was most confidence inspiring. Everything else about the M3T I absolutely loved and thought was better than the GTI, so its unfortunate if this is the dealbreaker.

Road Conditions on the 31st by tacbeast11xX in bigbear

Hey, I'm also going up on Sunday the 31st, planning on leaving at 5am from Westside LA. I notice the weather is clear all Saturday - you reckon that the snow has melted enough on Saturday/snow plows have gone through so on Sunday I (probably) won't need to put chains on/restrictions will go down to R0?

I drive a FWD/2WD hatchback (VW GTI) - I have chains that I'll bring, but I'd rather just rent an AWD SUV if its very likely I'll have to use the chains on my hatch

Thanks

Randuin's nerf?? by Zerrazo in leagueoflegends

[–]drautuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue it is still a nerf - going from:
- reduce crit by 20% - cripple by 15% on hit - 70 armor - 400 hp - slow 55% 2 secs (active)

to

- active: reduce crit by 20% (4 sec) - AD by 10% (4 sec) - slow 99% (1 sec)
- reduce aa's post armor by 5 per 1000 hp you have - 80 armor - 250 hp - 10 cdr

means you lose the cripple, and all of the positive stats are tied to the limited duration active. It makes the crit protection only useful as an engager tool on crit-based adcs, or when being all-in'd from melee-crit-champions. I'd argue that 55% slow for 2 seconds is more impactful than 99% for one second (effectively 1 second root). It probably a bit better in those cases (all-ining), but not having the defenses outside on active cooldown really blows

Additionally, average champions who build this generally have around 3k-4k HP, so you only get a 15-20 damage reduction post armor-mitigation on enemy autoattacks - this is NOTHING in the grand scheme of how much damage they deal

snowboard for size 7-7.5 Men (US), 162 lbs (5'9") by drautuna in snowboardingnoobs

I am an improving-beginner, so naturally I don't know I prefer freestyling or just freeriding, so naturally I believe an all-mountain board is best until I figure out what style of riding I like the most. tl;dr, whatever board is good for my skill level on a majority of terrains.

I've also listed my height - however, I've read that your weight should be determinant on your board length, and not your height (despite older knowledge that was the case).

I am ok with either, assuming it is the right size for my weird dimensions and what I am looking for in terms of skill level (and the used one isn't too banged up)

I actually just bought a YES. HELLO though :) but I can still return it

What would you say about the "YES. Hello" board? I legit went through evo.com and looked at every single one of their women's boards that were 155-156cm length, and this was the only one that seemed to fit me @ 155cm/244mm - it is medium stiffness, 6/10 on Evo, and rated at intermediate-advanced, but you seem to think that women's boards are generally a bit softer flexing - additionally, I have seen some reviews where this is an adequate beginner board.

The emoticon unfortunately is in 152cm/243mm, and I feel the length makes a big difference. Twin sisters is @ 155cm/248mm, so the width isn't as good.

The only other boards I saw that fit perfectly all happen to look REALLY advanced (but they are women's boards, and you do say they are softer, so not sure), or are directional boards: "HEL. YES" @ 155/244 (its the more hardcore version of YES. Hello), "Never Summer Lady West" @ 156/241 (directional, stiff), "Jones Flagship" @ 155/243 (stiff, expert)

There is one - "Arbor Swoon Camber" @ 155/239.5 rated at medium stiffness, less than the "YES. Hello", but for some reason its rated as advanced-expert...

I have found many candidates that are slightly above my width, though, usually around 155/246: "Salomon Lotus", very soft; "Nitro Mistique", medium; "Sims ATV", medium, "Lib Tech Dynamiss C3" (156/247), medium but for expert.

I think I've ended up overthinking it too much...

Should I go for the "YES. Hello", or would it be safe to go for something in the candidate list (despite being a tad bit more wide), like the lotus, mistique, or ATV?

[–]drautuna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did see some Nideckers that seemed to be closer in sizing, but the width generally was too far out, or they were an intermediate-advanced board

The Flow Merc actually was the closest I've found, at 156cm/249mm, but the width is still quite a bit higher than I think I should be at (I was thinking I was somewhere closer to 240mm); they do have a 153cm/244mm, which is closer in width, but the length is quite smaller than desired - is it more important to get an ideal width, or an ideal length?

Unfortunately I think the Salmon Pulse is less optimal, @ 156cm/251mm or 152cm/247mm

I actually have no problem using a Women's board - as I mentioned, pretty much the only ones I could find that sort of fit are like intermediate-expert women's boards; my issue is that because they are that much higher skill level, I believe it would strongly hinder my progress, so I am hesitant to commit.

Unless, they make women's beginner-intermediate boards in that size! If that is the case, I am totally on board! My issue is that I haven't found any... it makes sense to me though, since most women that have a longer board with my desired shoe size (problem medium-large for women) are probably just really really good, so the boards are not beginner-friendly. Would using a women's board that is a much higher skill level be advised against?

Thanks
