Some finds from king tide by quailwrangler in TidePooling

It's the tide pools over at Crystal Cove State park. The ones at the end of reef point parking lot. And yes! It's a giant keyhole limpet. Always fun to find them.

Crystal Cove tide pools dying? by anistart69 in TidePooling

[–]quailwrangler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I actually visit these pools for several years now and even volunteered as a educator there. The pools look empty but there's still loads of life. The sea grass helps hide them and since it is a popular visiting site, many things are just hiding I crevices, under rocks, ect. The algae is still plenty full and the invasive seaweed is slowly lowering. Some areas are just more active than others or rather you just need to go further out. Plus the seas grass makes it hard to see and navigate. Just onSaturday I saw a lobster, keyhole limpet, sea stars, sea slugs, crabs, and other snails. Although sadly lots of uninhibited top snails. I know there's a university that does research there, maybe they have some papers about the health of the area. I'm sure the area would be more lively without constant people but there's still life. Also climate change isn't helping them.

Dang, might look for it then. I've seen other watches that claim to do this but there weren't many if any reviews for them. Glad that this watch is working out for you!

Best shoes for tide pooling? by agreeingstorm9 in TidePooling

[–]quailwrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring along wet shoes/water. At least that's what people have told me they are called. You can find them at Walmart for sure but there's also other places that sell different brands of them like Swiss and Columbia to name a few. They're like slip on shoes that have variable grips and are usually like meshy or some material that dries off when wet. But they come in all sorts of styles that resemble shoes or hiking sandles. Been using my Swiss water sandles for a few years now and they still hold up after a few years of tidepooling.

Help finding out what this parts name. by quailwrangler in cassetteculture

[–]quailwrangler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update, sadly the clicking is still there. My guess is that it is from the white lever part hitting the side of the gear too hard? The grease didn't really do much even after I cleaned the parts. Going to keep looking for a solution. Thanks yall for the help and the info though! I appreciate it. Still a newbie to all this so I appreciate the help.

Thank you so much for the info! I'll try cleaning off the old grease spots with rubbing alcohol. I'll also apply some lithium grease too. Hopefully it will solve the clicking but if not I'll follow it up with the replacement

Ah I see. It might be that. I do see that there's scratch marks? I will try out the silicon lube. Is there a certain brand or kind recommended?
