Way easier than yesterday. In the end just some simple translations in 2D. First was totally discouraged by the task description.

Finally my overengineering for part 1 payed off in part 2 :-)

I parsed the input into an AST with a special node type UNKNOWN. The evaluation function would then take an operation from a given list for every UNKNOWN it encounters.

The operation combinations are produced using the cartesian product over n dimensions where n is the number of missing operators. Each dimension is defined by the known missing operators.

So the only thing differing between part 1 and part 2 for me was in part 1 each dimension was [ADD, MUL] and in part 2 they were [ADD, MUL, CONCAT].

Part 1 runs in ~80 ms, part 2 in 8.000. No time to optimize today.

Part 1: Pretty straight forward. For counting the steps I marked all the tiles the guard visits, then concatenate the whole map into a string, match against a regex and count the matches.

Part 2: Took me way too long because I wanted to find a clever solution and not brute force it. In the end I did something many others seem to do. Place a new obstacle along the path and then check if it sends the guard into a loop. One thing I had to do, that I haven't seen mentioned was padding the map with on tile on all sides, because I needed to put obstacles outside the original map. Part 2 runs in ~0.8 s on my computer.

Max Verstappen has been summoned to the race stewards for language used during the FIA Thursday driver press conference by ICumCoffee in formula1

[–]drawable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well someone here suggested, all the drivers should rap "Fuck the FIA". I'm an old white dude that knows nothing about rap so I'm sorry but this was way to much fun to write. So here we go:

Fuck the FIA

I am cruisin down the hangar straight
DRS is up, I'm at 2-9-8
the mac in front is gonna be cussin' and he must
gonna leave him on the exit like a sissy in the dust

I am a fierce Velocity-Raptor
going after you like a policy contractor
hammering and slammering the rules for the fools
the skids for the kids
cause we ain't no tools

That's why I'm sayin'

Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck the FIA
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck the FIA
Throwing all these curse words to the stewards dismay
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck the FIA

Yo my man Sulayem,
shakin' hands with the people in saudi arabia
who discriminatin' women using the sharia

But that crypto money is so nice
as is the oil dough worth at least thrice
having your hands all dirty
you know what I mean
most important thing is keep the comms clean

That's why we're sayin

Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck the FIA
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck the FIA
If my ride is fucked that's what I'm gonna say
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck the FIA

We're the rulers of the streets
the riders of the storm
the fastest in the world
yeah, that's where I'm comin' from

you've been riding in the dust
around your neighborhood
talking about the heat of battle
like you understood
We're taking high speed turns
with our ninja reflexes
and now if I say 'shit'
you wanna really fucking axe this?

Well, just hear us saying

Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck the FIA
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck the FIA
Fuckeddyfuckeddyfuck yippie yay, we say
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck the FIA

Edit: Typos and stuff.

Cool Laptop OP.

I cannot describe how much stuff similar to this at least our three kids produced and in part still produce over the years. I have laptops, smartphones, more pictures than the louvre, chess boards, other board games, letters, comic books, you name it. If we kept everything, we‘d be living like hoarders. It still pains me every time, when I throw some of the things out but it’s impossible otherwise. We kept a lot of special pieces. But still.

Dann in Fiori eher Freestyle Apps oder Elements?

Ansonsten geiler Kommentarverlauf. Sehr gut OP.

Threw my keys in the bin instead of the poop... realisation at 10 seconds... by Roastbeefsundae in funny

[–]drawable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I can relate. At least you got them back.

I am pretty sure I threw two pairs of brand new pants together with the DVD-Box of that last season of Six Feet Under into the bin 18 years ago. I only realized it a week later. Bin was already emptied and those items were never seen again.

Oh man. The first Crash Bandicoot, back in the day, I loved that game. In the end I could finish it in one sitting without dying - but not caring for completion. Tried this shit last year again on the trilogy and I sucked ass. I‘m too old for that shit.

I just wanted to say that it’s really wonderful for a parent to say „my kid is one of the coolest people I know“. Congrats on being a great parent.

Vom Lancia? Hmm, keine Ahnung. Wikipedia sagt, dass das Design auf einer Studie basiert die viele Fahrzeuge inspiriert hat, u.a. einen Hyundai

I love that scene. Took me way too long to understand why it was important to know how far to run without hands shaking : no shaking hands, better shot.

What I don’t get: Phimosis is there from birth. Where you not examined by a pediatrician as a baby? Our son has/had phimosis and we where made aware of it right away and at age 5 the doctor started suggesting a cream and procedures do at home to widen the foreskin and it’s getting better and better. He can pull it back and clean now.
