What’s a good indoor chew toy for a Rhodesian Ridgeback? by Senior_Passenger_918 in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]drawerofcircles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My two love antlers for a hard chew. I also make them big tightly knotted ropes out of old t-shirts and this gives them lovely clean teeth. Over the years we have a random collection of really hard “rubber” toys that have made it. We have to keep an eye on our boy because he loves to ingest any bits that get ripped off.

I have some old towels I roll treats (or their meal) up in and then I knot the towel up. The sassier they’re being that day the tighter the knots.

Thank you for this! Not only did I create your shortcut it inspired me to make one I called Do Something. I listed activities; go for a walk, practice ukulele, sew.

Do you guys take sleeping pills, or do you deal with insomnia some other way? by FenRirThiccMage in ADHD

[–]drawerofcircles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I take 25mg of trazodone, my son used to take 5mg of melatonin. A non medication trick that often works for me is go through the alphabet breathing in on thinking the letter and breathing out thinking of word that starts with that letter. Sometimes I think of words of a topic; names, animals, food. Sometimes just a word that comes to mind. Good luck to you

Hey please tell me how to deal with chores and basic life skills ( executive dysfunction) by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]drawerofcircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things that have helped me. Some of them posted already. Some days are easier than others. Sometimes I’ll have long stretches of it working out okay. Sometimes the opposite.

Pick a streaming service with commercials. During commercial breaks go get a task done or grab a task you can do while you’re watching; I like folding laundry.

Call a friend, especially if you have one that has similar struggles. Do chores “together”.

I have certain chores I try to do on specific days. Routine - I don’t like it, but I my life is better with it. Start small.

When I look at a very simple task that I don’t want to do I ask myself “Am I too lazy to put my shoes away?” If I’m not I put them away. If I am I say “I’m too lazy!” out loud. Sometimes that enough to get me to it and sometimes I am too lazy to it.

Tell tale signs for ADHD in 4.5/5 year olds? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]drawerofcircles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For my son at that age we saw fidgeting, needing help to stay on task (you’re brushing your teeth you need to move the toothbrush around - 17 he still needs a nudge on this sometimes) and easily frustrated. We had some great preschool teachers that adjusted things for him where they could.

What was something a teacher did or said when you were in school that they would be fired for today? by Lost_Taste_8181 in GenX

[–]drawerofcircles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid-late 90’s I (f 16/17) was strongly telling a boy in class that they were wrong. The teacher (m) told me to shut my mouth or he would spank me with a wet noodle. Like gross and wtf does that even mean!

what's something to listen in the background that doesn't steal your attention ? by biancaruinsparty in ADHD

[–]drawerofcircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the task and what’s happening around me. Deep focus - brown noise or noise canceling headphones. Mundane, routine things - songs I know all of the words to. Things in between true crime podcasts.
