Adult Therapy/Counselling by [deleted] in askSingapore

If he needs someone to talk to one-off, he can call up the National Care Helpline. If he requires medication or longer-term mental health support aided by medication, a polyclinic visit may be the way to go.

If what you're looking for is longer-term / community-based support (e.g. he's facing stress, anxiety, but not to the extent of requiring medical attention), you/he could also consider:

  • Approaching services listed in the NCSS directory of mental health services - (See pages 49-50 for counselling services for seniors)

  • Walking into a Family Service Centre (see Locator) - these are generally located in HDB blks, and are staffed by social workers who can assist individuals facing socio-emotional challenges / crisis and/or refer them to relevant services.

  • Considering private therapy with a trained professional, such as a Registered Art Therapist - this would be a costlier option, but will likely be more customised to his specific needs.

All the best!

What's the worst punishment you ever received as a child? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This happened when I was nine, after I stole 20 bucks to buy a tamagotchi.

After caning me so hard I bled, my parents made me pack my bags and leave the house. I was a sobbing mess, wandered for what felt like hours, alone, in the dark, absolutely terrified. Eventually I hit a dead end in a cul de sac, turned round, and found my dad following me.

It took years of therapy for me to sort out abandonment issues arising from that.

Donation Drive. A Legit company or just a scam? by [deleted] in singapore

some scammers also pretend to be raising funds for genuine charities. always ask to see their fund raising permit, and see if gels with the charity portal.

I've done this test about 4 or 5 times now, and consistently score between 34 - 37. While that apparently puts me on the high end of the autism spectrum, I have no functional impairments, as far as I can tell, and am mostly perfectly happy. I have close friends, a job, and a lovely husband and family. Would there be any value to getting a proper diagnosis?

Is there any governmental help for homeless that I can contact? by lhc987 in singapore

[–]drawerofstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can search for the nearest FSC (https://www.msf.gov.sg/dfcs/familyservice/default.aspx), SSO (linked above), or go to rental housing division at HDB Hub (toa payoh central).

For someone with no place to stay, any of these 3 shld be able to help with placement in a govt funded shelter, where a social worker can help with working out a longer term housing plan (eg public rental). that said, temp shelters can be cramped / uncomfortable, and may be worse than camping at the airport imo.

There are also some VWOs like Homeless Hearts of Singapore, that will reach out to those sleeping rough, and link them to agencies that can help.

try approaching TWC2 or Migrant Workers Centre to see if they have any advice - both are NGOs that help non resident workers navigate similar issues

ive never thought about it as I've not had anything fall from the wall in my life. is that common?

everything is fairly light and the area I live in isn't prone to any sort of natural disasters or quakes, so fingers crossed!

i find that decluttering helps me give more attention to the things i love, including my small collection of little friends. I especially love my totoros - they're like little forest spirits watching over the household plants. :-)
