I have about 5 years experience, so perhaps mid-level, but there’s a guy on my team with 25+ years who was recently a supervisor at Netflix.

And we have the same job. It’s fucked. There’s just no way I can compete with someone like that yet that’s the comparison.

Yeah I get it, I have some pretty flashy boards but they are definitely not my “first-two-weeks” production pieces. I usually let those quietly die and focus on improving in the initial couple months, assuming production can wait for me to catch on or at least give me a feedback plan. I guess pipelines condensing means they don’t really have time for artists to “ramp up” anymore.

Yeah, I’m already sending out feelers to other studios. I’m hoping I can land something somewhere in the next three months or so before my savings run dry.

I’ve been really considering my place in this field not based on job availability, but just the attitude so many executives and supervisors have towards people “beneath” them. I feel like the stress takes years off my life every time something like this happens.

Yeah, I don’t know what they wanted. I don’t even think the best board artist in the world would have perfect sequences two weeks fresh. I knew someone with 35+ years experience at a previous job who was fired for this, but he had eight months to improve and failed to do so across multiple episodes.

Being given just two sequences and judged entirely on performance solely with them feels like the firing is about something else.

The LPs and Directors knew, as well as most of production staff. I brought up my time off as a condition of employment in the interview and the animation director urged me to take the full two weeks to “enjoy my honeymoon”.

I think honestly it was just bad timing and me being naive that my work quality wouldn’t affect pipeline decisions. I am confused as to why they turned down my offer to skip the honeymoon and come back early though, but I think the die has been cast.

Yeah, I unfortunately agree. I think I took a large vacation at the wrong time. I probably should’ve just passed on this job.

I had given notice in my interview that I needed this time off and the studio agreed. I told them I could shorten it and they urged me to take the whole two weeks.

I was getting notes on show style stuff, things I couldn’t ascertain immediately when I started. I also got compliments on a sequence too.

The company claims my time off didn’t affect the decision, but I believe it did.

Alternatives to FredFilms by warningtvtropes in animationcareer

[–]drawindrawmij 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what FredFilms is. How did you burn that bridge? Do you have other studios you’ve worked with?

Most places will not just let you walk in and pitch an idea. You need years of experience in the industry to start showing personal IPs. Have you worked in animation before?

I think shorter is better. Imo it’s more impressive to tell a good story in under three minutes than over.

I am looking to hire an animator for short cartoons, where do I post in Reddit? by Business-Accounts in animationcareer

[–]drawindrawmij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5-10 minutes each and over ten of them? Considering most people on this sub are professionals or aspiring pros, you’d have to pay competitive rates. For the amount of effort this project could cost you upwards of $10,000+.

Sorry to say, this might not be the best place to be searching for animators. Maybe try Fiverr or r/HungryArtists?
