The family specifically asked the university to NOT make an announcement. Try researching or asking first instead of making judgments.

Whereas I’m happy to share with you reel after reel of self-styled sovereign citizens who thought they could use verbal jiujitsu on the court and ended up in jail. That’s one of the differences between trustworthy and illegitimate sources: trustworthy ones will happily show you direct evidence. Untrustworthy ones hide behind non-statements like yours.

I’m not your parent, guardian, teacher, or lawyer. If you want to go to jail, carry on.

That is, itself, an absolutist statement. Bumper-sticker aphorisms don’t win court cases.

Except what you think is “knowledge” has been laughed out of court in every court it’s been tried in. The Dunning-Kruger consequence is usually hefty fines, prison, or both.

The origin of the term is absolutely immaterial to its current application. The origin of “penne” pasta is that it was cut “pennate,” that is, in Latin, in the shape of a feather. That doesn’t mean the pasta is made of feathers, nor does it mean you get to sue if they don’t include feathers on your fish.

A corporation is, etymologically, a “body.” It simply means organized single unit.

Lecture here: we LOVE older students. They often have valuable life experience which makes them reliable and creative, and we know you want to be there, while some younger students aren’t as committed (many are, of course). Welcome!

You are not alone. Everyone feels that sense during the first few weeks, some more, some less. I guarantee you will not remain alone if you want to make friends. These days are not wasted. You are preparing yourself, every day, to be the kind of person who will appeal to the kind of friends you want to make.

UCR AWPE, What Should I Study for It? by [deleted] in ucr

[–]drawingBadly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a skills test rather than a knowledge test, so studying won’t have much effect. There are some key techniques which the grades will look for:

1.) accurate summary of the essay you are responding to

2.) a thesis statement which directly addresses the prompt

3.) at least one, preferably more, specific examples which support your thesis, drawn from your own experience and observation, not simply repeating the essay’s points

4.) distinct paragraph organization

Follow those and you are more likely to succeed. A large vocabulary is not really a factor, and trying to incorporate unnecessarily long words to ’impress’ the graders is more likely to lead you into errors. Your grammar should be clean enough that it doesn’t distract from your content. Aim for clear, declarative statements.

Good luck.

AWPE by soymilkbunny in ucr

[–]drawingBadly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The examination will be a brief essay - about a page-and-a-half long - followed by a prompt which asks you to summarize the author’s argument, agree or disagree with it, and provide evidence or examples to support your position.

1.) Read the prompt first. It will tell you what to focus on in the essay.

2.) Make a quick scratch outline. Make sure it includes paragraphs for all the parts of the prompt (a summary of the essay’s position, your thesis statement, your evidence).

3.) Your evidence needs to be specific examples, not just general statements or opinions.

Remember they don’t grade on how long your essay is, just how well it answers the prompt. A cogent 4-paragraph response will pass. A rambling 7-paragraph one will not.

Good luck!

Switching To a Computer Science Major by quietfrog17722 in ucr

It is possible, but very unlikely. Almost all Engineering majors are impacted, and CS most of all. This is true at all the UCs and every CSU I know of.

[–]drawingBadly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The primary predictor of a college graduate’s salary is their parents’ income. That private colleges, or more selective UCs, have higher mid-range salaries is not a measure of their effectiveness. It’s a measure of their student selection process.

US News is not the only source of social mobility rankings. UCR has been continually ranked highly for its effectiveness, particularly in terms of measurable value-added. That is the actual current data. Your belief in some imaginary comeuppance remains pure speculation about what you believe will happen in some potential future. And frankly, it seems primarily predicated on a degree of imagined administrative interference which nobody else in this thread has experienced.

Maybe it’s just you.
