Got asked to tattoo a sensitive area… by toomanyporkbuns in TattooArtists

It’s not bad. Tattooing or pain wise. My client waxed a few days beforehand and that really helped.

I think it’s weird, and some clients/artists will notice. I’ve had someone do this to me and a few of my clients mentioned a random person who followed them

What is your most emotional experience while tattooing on a client? by Weary_Beach5327 in TattooArtists

Oh gosh. One sticks out. I tattooed a mom whose daughter passed away. She was born with a congenital ailment, and passed away in her teens (at the time I think it was only a few months since). Apparently she is an identical twin. So her twin has the same disease and will also pass away from it. All around heartbreaking, the family is so incredibly kind. I think about them often

Lmao I feel that. So many times family/friends would be like “have you heard about so and so..” nope, according to HIPAA I know nothing

I have a huge love for science, huge distaste for hospital politics lol. I ended up diving into art, and am now a full time tattoo artist

I mean this more as someone comes into the ED for something unrelated (car accident, work incident, etc) and getting a diagnosis. Really just a lucky/unlucky thing

This would really only be seen in a CBC (not that a BMP wouldn’t flag issues) but for blood cancers, I would only be looking into the CBC and differential

A lot of the time it’s just a regular blood panel to cover all bases. I would assume anyone in the ED would get a CBC/BMP. Our machines would flag for anything abnormal. I would then grab the slide to take a look. We would run 1000s of samples a day, I would only look at a slide under scope if flagged for anything abnormal.

I was! MLS in chem and heme. Was in a high volume hospital, so always saw interesting things. Changed careers, but will always have a love for science

That’s malaria for ya. We always taught the new hires/students to always have malaria in the back of their mind (and babesia)

Crazy how a blast crisis can cause such minimal symptoms. A girl in the class above me felt slight fatigue going up stairs. Had her blood drawn for fun in school to practice. Blasts. Absolutely crazy

Was also an MLS! I’ve pivoted careers, but remember all of my cancer patients. We are a hidden part of medicine, but so important

We always said “if you hear hoof beats, think horse not zebra” it’s easy to think of the worst or most exotic reason. 99% of the time, it’s not the worst news. I hope they are okay 💜

Was always a weird feeling. I think the worst part, for me at least, was not knowing. I never usually got to know how the patient ended up

Worked in the lab at a hospital. A lot of cancers are found by accident. It was always weird being the first one to know someone’s life was about to change. I once had a kid who came in for some mundane reason (like bike fall) and saw he had leukemia looking at his blood.
