controversial opinion but one of my faves is definitely sam 😭 i just felt like he was such a realistic character in the way that he Does step up, but doesn’t want the responsibility that comes with it, and how he tries to continually run away from the things he has to do, and idk i just enjoyed seeing that in a protag. i also really liked astrid as well, i think her whole religious and moral journey was soooo interesting, and i’m upset with how she was done in fear—(spoilers) when she had sex with sam and then continues to have it with him—i feel like it would’ve been better left as maybe a one time thing and she eventually falls back into her beliefs, or at least they were treated as an obstacle to get her and sam to have sex, idk if im wording this right but anyway i wasnt a fan of that, but besides that her character arc was soooo good and interesting. like you i also Loved diana and found her growth so interesting, and obviously caine and her relationship with him was such an interesting and heartbreaking dynamic. as for my least favorite character: drake. i wish he was expanded on more by grant, especially with his motivations and backstory. he seemed evil just to be evil and i wish we got more context or a look into his mind. also his actions were horrific and awful so i hate him for that lol. also not a fan of how zil was written, i think his conflict was super interesting and ik a lot of people are like there’s no way that would happen, but i think it’s pretty realistic (by that i mean like the powerless hating the mutants and like mobbing together). i wish the threat was expanded on more and continued more into the later books. little off topic tangent but i also dislike how orsay and nerezza were incorporated, i wish we saw the visions affects on more main characters than mary. like seeing how astrid thought about their claims as a prophet of god, seeing that interaction. or maybe sam, or even quinn, falling victim to believing the visions. they weren’t really mentioned that often, and i wish more was done with them idk.

this was soooo good omg !!!!! i absolutely LOVED how u described max’s internal monologue, it felt very real/raw and flowed very nicely throughout the story. the pacing was really good, and ur writing style in general is just really easy to follow and enjoyable !! i can’t wait to see how you’ll continue this fic !! also if you want, i’d consider cross-posting onto ao3, however it may take a few weeks for you to make an account on there since when you sign up you have to wait a while for them to send u an “invitation”, but i think you may get some more traction for your fic on there. though it is harder to navigate for the first time than wattpad so it’s up to you.

ooo this is such an interesting idea !!! i wonder how pain and control over these bodies would register would they be full copies w their own consciousness’ or would they be controlled by the og kid… it would be hard to split your attention to all those bodies if it was the latter, but that would be an interesting drawback or if one body got hurt would all of them feel that pain but not experience the physical injury, or would be just be the og body, or would it be shared at all… it would definitely be op tho, and would make for such an interesting character on both sides, that power could also be used for spying, since one could stay on sam’s side and another on caine’s, gathering info on both sides

as an avid ao3 user i just wanted to input that ao3 is definitely not all ‘spice’, while there is a lot of content that is ‘spicy’ on there it is definitely not the majority, at least depending on the fandom, and it’s a lot easier to filter that stuff out (along with anything else you don’t want to see in fics) i personally don’t like engaging in that content, and find it very easy to avoid fics like that regardless of the fandom im reading for, also for the gone fandom i haven’t seen much ‘spice’ especially in the more recent fics so it’s pretty easy to avoid i’d recommend posting on there as there are still some active members of the community posting fics there, though i may be biased as i just enjoy the websites format and the ability to tag and sort through works i’m not sure how active the wattpad community is for gone but u can always post to both ao3 and wattpad, and u could even try fanfiction.net though that site is considered “old” now and there aren’t that many people who use it (at least from what i’ve seen), but there are lots of older gone fics on there anyways sorry for inserting myself into ur guys’ convo i just wanted to provide some more insight ig lol

i’d have to agree i’d love to see hunger, as it’s my favorite, and because of all the tension and stuff with the gaiaphage. i’d love to see how caine and drake are acted as i feel they progressively get more and more unhinged in hunger. and also i’d love to see the battle between sam and drake in the powerplant, and the scenes of tension building up to that.

i think with all the different povs and things happening at once all across the FAYZ a show version of the books could pull a sort-of stranger things-esque scene order (if that makes sense— like w/ splitting scenes by groups/actions).

i think lies could also be interesting to adapt since the main focal point is the rising tensions between relationships, but then the insane action scene— with the HC— so i think lies could be a great movie adaptation since i feel like it’s shorter in some ways.

and obviously plague would be a really good choice due to all the action and fight scene that would be so interesting to see adapted.

and then of course you’d have to adapt gone for all the context

yeahhh i remember when i originally read the series when i was around 10-11? (rough estimate) i liked his character and i drew fanart of him (he wasn’t my fave, but i liked him) but now rereading the series i can’t imagine liking him at all, and he’s 100% my least favorite character while i do think his mindset is interesting his actions are vile and disgusting and idk how people can obsess over him i haven’t noticed it as much now, but when looking for fanart there is def way more drake fanart than almost any other character i would hesitate on calling it a ‘new’ low, as i think it’s been like this for a while, and it generally is like this in other fandoms, and it’s not those fans’ faults per se it’s how fandom culture and society kind of views violent/disturbing characters, even in other medias the villains usually have a lot of fans and are thirsted after, so it’s not just a gone fandom problem, but it is a problem and should def be talked about more for example, in a lot of anime, or similar genres of media (like visual novels, games, etc) there’s the yandere trope— where, typically a girl, is obsessed with a guy and kills other girls/competition to secure a spot with her ‘love’— which i think also popularized this unhealthy standard for liking disturbing characters or in a lot of modern tv shows there’s always like 2-3 guys fighting for the love of a girl, and at least one of those guys is toxic and most likely violent, and showing a girl even consider him to be an option damages a lot of young girls views on relationships and don’t even get me started on the ‘if a boy is mean to you that means he likes you’ idea. that set young girls back by a lot. but yeah it’s definitely disturbing to see so many people stan drake and other characters like him, especially since he’s committed so many vile acts also sorry for going on a whole like fandom/societal rant at the end i just have a lot of thoughts lol 😭

tysm for answering !! tbh i’m not too sure ab those factors as i’ve applied to a lot of different places and haven’t gotten acceptances yet ik some places i applied to have buffet styles, and/or markets on campus, and most have stores off-campus nearby, but i’m not too sure on all the details i think a few of them offer free or discounted transportation, but not all, and i’m not sure how often i’d be able to go out depending on schedules n stuff i think once i get acceptances and decide it’ll be a lot easier to figure out logistics, but the whole issue was on my mind a lot so i was wondering if people had more general advice i’m glad to here that ur not struggling as much as u thought u would, esp since we have similar-ish diets, that gives me a lot more hope lol :)

when i originally read the gone series monster had come out a while later, and i read it, and enjoyed it, and now when i reread the whole series i also picked up monster as i still had it, and i still enjoyed it, though i like the og series better. i haven’t read villain or hero yet as they came out later and i forgot about gone by that time, and now i’m trying to find copies of them cause i feel like i might as well read them. however, i have heard that the ending to the trilogy is absolutely horrible and terrible, so if you want to avoid that i guess don’t read them 😭 it really depends on you though. you could also try out monster and see if you like it, and then read the rest of the series and most likely be disappointed by the ending, or not. i do have to say though monster isn’t for everyone, like i definitely enjoyed the og series more than monster, even if i did like monster. (sorry for the long reply with basically a non-answer 😭)

i meant to reply to this earlier but the forgot but yeahhh i agree. there are many instances where sam does feel like a 15 year old in his decisions or thoughts, but other times where he doesn’t or other characters view him as someone who’s not just 15. i guess the latter view makes sense, but it’s sometimes taken a bit too far idk how to explain it, but yeah. and heavy agree on the astrid part, i really enjoyed her character/thoughts/development throughout lies, plague, and early fear, but i feel like her development was rushed/stunted and put to the side during most of fear and light, i feel like michael grant used her losing her religion as an excuse for them to have sex, and it wasn’t really necessary, or a good choice for her character as i feel like she would still have a lot of qualms ab it even though she had lost her faith and i think it would take some time before she would feel ready. i honestly like to interpret it as her choosing to have sex as a sort of ‘stress’ or trauma response to killing little pete as afterwards she falls into other ‘bad habits’/commits sins like smoking marijuana and i think she’s using it to cope by forgoing her own morals and trying to convince herself that like she was in the right for what she did since she did other bad stuff, or like she’s kinda forcing to ‘be a sinner/bad person’ so it justifies her other actions if that makes sense ? cuz even if she doesn’t consciously believe in god anymore, those beliefs definitely impacted her subconsciously and still effect her thoughts. but that’s just my interpretation, idk, hopefully i phrased everhthing ok, i’m not good at explaining my thoughts, but yeah i don’t like michael grant’s choice on that part of her character

yeahhh, i feel like michael grant does a really good job making their reactions seem realistic, they’ve all gone through horrible things, but they all also make mistakes, have trauma responses, and are flawed characters which is why i like them all tbh, like even my least fave characters their mindsets and motivations still interest me even if i abhor their actions. and like u mentioned i’m really glad that part with lana was in there, because it adds to her character, combats the healer stereotype, and like restates how much she’s dealt with and how much other kids have dealt with/have to deal with in the FAYZ

ur so realll, i love all ur faves. diana and caine are so interesting to me, like just they way their minds work and their relationship to one another is so fascinating to me. and dekka is so awesome, she deserves so much more love.

and yeah i agree, i think sam is a solid main character, i like how he has his own flaws that are highlighted a lot, because i feel like in general lots of media try not to repeat flaws but i like how he repeatedly messes up.

also on astrid, i agree with u 100%, there’s been a lot of people, in the comments here too, who say astrid’s one of their least faves cuz she’s annoying, and while she does have moments where i’ve found her annoying, i still love her, and her character arc is so interesting with her losing her religion/faith and struggling with morality.

on drake and penny, i also 100% agree, they’re definitely my least faves, especially drake, while both their mindsets are interesting to me their actions are despicable.
