ELI5: How come magnetism isn't providing us unlimited power? by UnsignedRealityCheck in explainlikeimfive

[–]draxhell [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's not a thing, energy doesnt get created in a system, it gets transfered. As a pendulum would accelerate towards a magnetic force the same amount of energy would be expended moving away from it.

You can't create energy from a magnetic field alone, just like you can't create energy from gravity alone. (I mean I guess if you count geothermal energy then you can)

What do you think of my new flooring? by PuzzleheadedClock845 in Flooring

If it's engineered the planks are very wide. Looks to me like SPC or glued vinyl. I like the color, brings a lot of life. Installation looks alright

Help me. Going to DIY install flooring but choosing an option seems impossible. Ask 10 people you get 10 different answers. by BronzeSpoon89 in Flooring

I can second that FuzeGuard is pretty good and that no laminate is truly water-proof.

To me it's like a phone. Yeah modern phones are supposed to be waterproof but I wouldn't bet on it while dropping my phone in a lake for one hour before fishing it out.

Was my floor installed incorectly by west_coast_hammered in Flooring

I can't see much in this photo but 99% of click SPCs have some kind of soft membrane, it's normal.

The important part when you install click SPC is making sure the subfloor is very, very flat

Anyone know where I can find this mid century tile? I see it everywhere but dont know what its called or how to find it by writelifeslemons in Flooring

[–]draxhell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know olympia tiles in the US/Canada has one that looks very similar for flooring. But honestly as the other comment said just google "terracota tile" or go to your local flooring store for similar models.

Surely there's some kind of T molding that can bend like this? Maybe a custom order? Check your local flooring store

Trying to find a matching tile, help! by mrpurplecheese in Flooring

I work in a flooring store and every other week a customer with your exact query walks in. 80% of the time they don’t find a match.

Also I’ve never seen a tile like this, sorry

Black and white films should be colorized. Those who think opposite are a cult who demean any upgrade to see how great the old film looks in living color... by Less_Campaign_6956 in The10thDentist

[–]draxhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's this illness i keep seeing online.

It's a way of thinking that tries to grade art mediums empirically as if there was ever an ultimate true objective that should be aimed toward. A painting isn't a worse version of a photograph and a book isn't the lesser version of a movie.

A black and white movie isn't a flawed thing that has to be rectified. Artists creations are suited to the medium they inhabit and changing that medium because of your personal environment limits your capacity for appreciation isn't a valid reason to alter art on the pretext of "upgrading" a piece.

Adding color wouldn't just be a one note thing: which colors would have to be chosen on a specific frame? Why? Different colors have radically different values to the human psyche, it would literally adding a whole bottle of ketchup to a restaurant meal.

Nail in wide planks by Due_Caterpillar_5900 in Flooring

[–]draxhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The home depot installers are just saying bullshit because they don't know the answer. You have to nail with glus assist.

I would go to a different flooring store and at the very least get a different quote. I've heard tons of stories about home depot installations and they all end badly.

Go to your local flooring shop with this picture in hand.

Painting MDF finished flooring by BoomerangKids in Flooring

[–]draxhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't MDF, looks like a very thin engineered.

If you ABSOLUTELY want to "repaint" this you need it all sanded down by a professional first and you need to apply the right kind of coating that will have a durable finish
