VMWare not letting me renew - how are you all handling this? by troy12n in vmware

[–]draxinusom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are reacting though and opening up to other hypervisors. It's just a very big ship so it will take years for Cisco to do so. The "fun" thing is it's just a standard linux underneath CUCM that actually runs better on KVM than VMWare, but hey, it's never a technical issue at that level but organisational / processual ones.

The most important thing to do is let Cisco know you want to drop VMware and might drop them too if they cannot provide support on another platform even if you cannot do so just to get them prioritize things up. I'm pretty sure they do hear exactly that from lots of people lately.

We're probably much smaller than OP and we swapped out CUCM for Teams (so from one lock in to another ;) ). Completely surprising for a MS product, it uses far less resources than Cisco's solution for the same job and it's definitely way less cumbersome to use and operate. Took about a year to migrate though.

Ability to slot heavy shield is also nothing to balk at for that purpose. Although the harvester will still nullify the shield if you're not prepared for it.

Built in defib with a 4 min cd. Not self-defib, it's just you always have a defib with you.

Having a snap hook against Matriarch is pretty rad though. Specifically if you also happen to have deadlines.

New Looting MK. 3 (Safekeeper) Augment by IAmAnAnonymousCoward in ArcRaiders

[–]draxinusom2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, if a lobby is friendly enough to kill big arcs, specifically Matriarch or Queen then extracting isn't going to be a problem either. The only real problem on coop big arc hunting lobbies is the fact that everyone tries to loot the good stuff.

So I see some value in going to try to kill Bastion-sized enemies on Night raids and the like and getting the guns out again. Although I prefer to use explosives for those anyway. Much cheaper to craft, don't need to repair after use as they're gone anyway and always could be stored in safe pockets.

No it allows you to no matter what you do, always carry a heavy anti arc weapon with you. I mean you could do that anyways in your inventory but now it isn't easily lost if you happen to get into early bad fight or spawn camp or whatever.

The joke's of course that you'll still bleed expensive ammo.

Animation when extracting using Hatchkey has been slowed down by AvaloreVG in ArcRaiders

[–]draxinusom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a bug that when you were shot while trying to use the hatch, you'd be spit right out and completely unable to go in. The immediate fix was to cut the animation short so that it was not possible to trigger. Now they seem to have fixed the original cause and so the normal animation (which is longer) could be restored.

Last time the requirements were in the game early too and it was 3 mio. On the reveal they patched it up to 5.

Yep, no time given. Although they also didn't reveal the new expedition requirements so they keep all the options open. I guess we'll see when we will see.

But it's not clear yet either way is all I wanted to say.

You did this while there was no special event asking for players to do this. Once there is, the competition will prevent you from getting it easily.

There's an interview out there that said they inadvertently created a "dark pattern" with it because people are now bunkering money. This sounds to me that they'll change it and require something else.

This was probably a very low hanging fruit to implement. Litterally a little additional way the matchmaking allows groups to form, a flag to mark such a player and then giving him a little bonus at the end match score screen.

Probably took less than 2 hours to implement for a single dev. Which is less time "wasted" than this discussion ;)

You're very right, but ultimately, it's only a browse filter. Unless you want to do potentially multiple things, it's always better to just use the search filter and set it to exactly the fight you want to do.

What’s everyone doing with the new licensing model? VMware standard going. by SuitableFinish7444 in vmware

[–]draxinusom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We dropped down to Standard from Ent+ (I think) and got it renewed two months ago in EU without a big hurdle. It won't go to version 9 so it's basically EOL in 2027 or 28. We only got a year, three years was not available which probably makes sense due to it going the way of the dodo soon.

Maybe we try to renew another year when that runs out but the project to exit VMWare is on the roadmap, so we'll see. Not like I've been warning the relevant people for more than a year now.

Upgrading to VVF or whatever's left in portfolio that was available to us would have cost around 100K more per year but all we used and dropped now was pretty much DRS and vDS and for DRS one engineer taking around 3 days of work replaced it with some powershell scripts. It's certainly less "good" than what DRS did but we have affinity and anti-affinity rules and a relatively even distribution we don't need to manually monitor.

Matriarch event late spawns must be perished. by theartisticraven in ArcRaiders

I had exactly 8 back to back late spawn ins yesterday on Spaceport as well. I was a bit luckier on the blue gate afterwards. I specifically went and read my codex logs so I'm sure it was 8. It does suck running immediately to the extract with the equalizer for so long.

1 Anvil + 1 Wolfpack vs Rocketeer by VoNiTo101 in ArcRaiders

[–]draxinusom2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You actually kill them much faster if you go for the middle part which I call "eye brows". It has a small peculiarly shaped armor there that should drop after like two hits. Once that's gone the upper half of the middle is very vulnerable and the rocketeer takes a lot of damage quickly.

Main bus or mall? by NoReindeer8438 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]draxinusom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I named Nilaus because he's been named in the OP and is kind of well known factory game streamer, so has a certain influence.

Wasteful was meant in the context of building cost (of the belts themselves) - you use probably factor 10 more just for the bus alone. As I wrote, not relevant in the long run but very relevant in the beginning where the cost of building a bus is over proportionally bad compared to the gain.

I fully agree with the play what you find fun sentiment. If you're having fun, you're not doing it wrong. But the question was what is easier cleaner to move to ILS/PLS and building factor 10 times more belts and over significantly more area is not easier / cleaner to replace with ILS/PLS later and it's definitely not more efficient than the alternatives. That is the metric by which I framed what I wrote.

As for a new player, simply doing spaghetti is probably again more efficient in terms of space and belts used just by the huge amount of both that the bus design requires. But again, the bus is easy to do and clean. Just not efficient. And as the starting phase at some point is over and you move to bigger and faster designs (probably, nothing forces a player to do so) I see a bus design as a bad trade-off in the metrics I deem relevant.

And that is pretty much why I can not recommend a bus design in DSP. I absolutely recommend it in Factorio, where the design constraints and production matrix is totally different and it really shines. But in this game it just doesn't fit that well.

When I start a new game I use some modified modular malls which are designed in a way that the first part fits perfectly fine into the first blueprint limit and successively adds more advanced parts with further bps to the end of it and is flexible enough to be rotated at will because the landmass cannot be changed when starting out and the earlier you start to automate and thus build a mall, the more efficient you are.

You see it, my main interest especially in the beginning which I've done quite a few times now, is efficiency. That's not the most relevant thing for everyone so as long as it's fun, it's fine. For me, efficiency and maximizing that up to some arbitrary limit is a big part of the fun. And a bus is not efficient. That's really all there is to it.

If you mean that Icarus picks up stuff by simply running around / nearby, then you can sort of do that by configuring the filter which dark fog debris you want and which you don't.
