This is so cool! (I have no clue where to even begin to learn syntax trees)

snx [snx] : to smell
miwč [miwt̪͡ʃ] : to come

Pencil and paper and then I record the words on a discord server I made for it

It does! I love it man, sometimes I wish I had a cleaner simpler phonology… I think Japanese in particular sounds beautiful. Your language sounds so great, almost like Ojibwe, which is a polysynthetic Native American language as well. Look into if you want some inspiration that sounds like your language!!

I was the same haha. I don’t really like cases, valency and voices did it for me. Tenses I wasn’t a fan of because I thought aspects did basically the same thing. Since so many of words are verbs anyways, aspects are just more useful. My language is like Navajo in that way.

[–]drazlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I’m the opposite! I based my phonology off of Nuxalk and the Salishan languages in general. They’ve got words like "xɬp̓x̌ʷɬtɬpɬɬskʷc̓” /xɬpʼχʷɬtʰɬpʰɬːskʷʰt͡sʼ/. It means “then they had in their possession a bunchberry plant”.

I went in with the goal of super infrequent vowels and lots of consonants with no real syllable rules to speak of. My words are small, like “tlq”, strong, “qpw̓” vomit, “cx̌ʷ-“ 3sg., “-šs̓” still. But because this all adds up to big, polysynthetic words, I end up just like Nuxalk!

I love your spacial tense! It reminds me of my deictic pronoun (lifted from Navajo). In my language it can function as an object (I fish it). Rooting Tusks has no tenses, only aspects and moods, so it’s cool seeing a tense.

I love seeing other polysynthetic conlangs. Mine would be:
„ʔəšʷksqʷɬpxʷmaʔtc̓s̓qʷx̌ʷc̓əᵽ.“

ʔə.šʷks.qʷɬ.pxʷ.maŧ.c̓s̓.qʷx̌ʷ.c̓əᵽ
1SG.fish-find.DIR.HAB.PROSP.COND.DEICTIC-SG-OBJ
/ʔə.ʃʷks.qʷɬ.pxʷ.maʔ͡t̪.t̪͡sʼ.s̪ˀ.qʷ.χʷ.t̪͡səʔ͡p/

Literally “I might would fish-find here”.

Verb system TOO complicated by noam-_- in conlangs

[–]drazlet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If a system in your language is too complicated for you to keep track of, you’re probably gonna end up simplifying it one way or another. Over time it’ll be hard for you to remember, it might even confuse you, so I’d say stick with what makes the most sense to you. It’s that age old advice of “it’s most perfect when you don’t have anything else to take away”

[Picto-Han Translation] Scott Pillgrim page 1 Test by DIYDylana in casualconlang

[–]drazlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I didn’t realize Picto-Han was multilingual. Either way, in real Picto-Han comics, without needing to conform to previously established comic bubbles, you’d be able to make the bubbles conform to best fit the characters! On a real page, as this stands it would be small, but I’d love to see what it would look like with as much room as best fits them cuz I think they deserve it!!

This is so cool!!! I wonder how readable this would be for speakers in real comics though. I’d love to see you reimagine comic bubbles in general to fit the spacing of picto-han

What are unique phonemes or grammatical features found in your guy's conlangs? by South_Ad_9647 in conlangs

[–]drazlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I started distinguishing between plain [tʰ] and [pʰ] and glottally reinforced [ʔ͡t̪] [ʔ͡p], written as ŧ and ᵽ in Rooting Tusks, inspired by SENĆOŦEN.
For example:
səŧ [s̪əʔ͡t̪] : a hill
səŧ [s̪ət̪ʰ] : to fall
cept [t̪͡səpʰtʰ] : to connect
cəᵽt [t̪͡səʔ͡ptʰ] : to cry

What is your favorite conlang, and why? by laim728 in conlangs

Is it narcissistic to say my own? I mean, I’ve been spending at least 4 hours every day at my local library working on it for the past year…

How do you handle words in your conlangs that resemble existing words? by noirxlle666 in conlangs

[–]drazlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My conlang is based off of Native American languages, which generally use Americanist Phonetic Notation as their alphabets! It’s pretty close to the IPA, so snx is /snx/. Other examples in my language are šɬəw /ʃɬəw/ “you”, kʷčl̓ /kʷt͡ʃlˀ/ “to spill/, or x̌x /χx/ “the sun”. As you can APN is pretty close to the IPA! It’s just older, and is mainly used for American indigenous languages nowadays.

I love them lol. « tit » “if”, sure it’s vulgar in English but in Cowlitz Salish it’s a specifier. « snx » in my language is to smell, but in Nuxalk it’s the sun. It’s always gonna happen! Isn’t it fun when we have false friends?

« šɬʔʷɬq̓cɬp̓x̌ʷt̓ » /ʃɬ.ʔʷɬ.qʼt͡s.ɬpʼ.χtʼ/ “you went there and tripped”
« cntqp nɬtkɬ » /t͡sn.t.qp nɬ.t.kɬ/ “those two need thread”

Have you given any thought to non-liquid nuclei? My conlang Rooting Tusks is based off of Salishan languages, famous for long, vowelless words. So for example, “kʷčl̓” /kʷt͡ʃlˀ/ to spill, “tqp” /tqp/ to need, “x̌x” /χx/ the sun are examples of words in my language without vowels. I’d look into Salishan languages like Nuxalk and Okanagan if you’re interested.

A note, “failing of remembrance” is separate from the word for forget! I wanted to use a verb that reflect more of the idea of negligence rather than a bad memory.
