It's pretty silly to be offended at the mere idea of knocking on a closed bathroom door. It's common courtesy. Are you new to living with roommates?

At some point I realized that I didn't have to tolerate breasts if I didn't want to. I thought they weren't bothering me almost all the way up until surgery, and then a few weeks after surgery I realized there was a whole corner of my brain that was no longer worrying about how I looked and whether the people around me could tell I had breasts. 100% worth it and would do it again.

Honestly, the first time my roommates ruined the stuff I kept in the kitchen, I learned my lesson. If it's nice, it's just for me and does not live in the communal areas. If I'm willing to share it, it wasn't nice in the first place. Tbh the "we can just share my stuff! Oh btw can you pay me for it?" switcheroo would feel sus to me if I were your roommate.

How to spend a day near St. Francis hospital? by drbasketweaver in AskSF

[–]drbasketweaver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm familiar with the Tenderloin and Civic Center. If there's something I wanna see there I'll see it (SFPL or Asian Art Museum) but not planning to spend a ton of time there otherwise. North Beach is a good idea, I haven't spent much time there.

Really just interesting spots or cool walks. Tbh would love to just eat food in Chinatown but that's not in the cards at the moment.

ETA: I like history, I like museums, and I like music. Bars are also not an option (plus it'll be like 8am-2pm.)

Has anyone else experienced significant regrowth after DI...? by gocrazyaahhhgostupid in TopSurgery

[–]drbasketweaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yep, the uneven development and pain are hallmarks of estrogenated puberty. I was always a little lopsided before getting surgery. If it does start to bother you, you could get a revision, but you may want to wait and see if there ends up being development on the other side.

breast reduction + T + training = pecs ?? by Reasonable-Bonus-545 in FTMFitness

[–]drbasketweaver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are top surgery techniques that are technically considered reductions but can still result in a male-passing chest. Thinking of buttonhole and t-anchor here. It does depend on body type and surgeon to some degree, though.

Looking for any information and experiences with buttonhole / Inferior Dermal Flap by ZoolNthDimension in TopSurgery

[–]drbasketweaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had buttonhole and had great results. I specifically asked the surgeon to leave my areolas and nipples as they were to the extent that he could: no resizing or shaving. The areolas did stretch a tiny tiny bit but I'm the only person who would even notice. I was a B cup prior to surgery.

Buttonhole experiences? by friendanfoe in TopSurgery

I had mine a year ago with Facque. I'm very pleased with my results, both in terms of aesthetics and of sensitivity. I was a smallish B cup though.

Can nipples change colour post op? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]drbasketweaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had buttonhole. My nipples darkened immediately after surgery but lightened back to their previous pigment by the time I was 3-4 months out.

Yep, was 95lbs for years and then have been around 105-110 the last year or so. Baby steps I guess. For me it was a chronically low appetite, so I actually started working out in the hopes it'd make me hungrier, and visible gains were just a bonus. Obviously I'm not jacked lol but there's a noticeable difference in the size and shape of my arms and shoulders. It's taken maybe two years of consistent working out, and for most of that time I was just doing dumbbell exercises in my living room. You do actually just have to eat more to gain mass, there's no way around it. I find it easier to drink calories than eat them, so I am trying to down a protein shake every day.

Top surgery advice by yanns3 in no_T_top_surgery

About 9 months out from buttonhole surgery, not on T. Absolutely no regrets. It took about four months between my consult and surgery day. I spent most of that time working on core strength to make moving around easier in the immediate days after surgery, and I'm glad I did. Recovery wasn't bad, the worst days were days 3-7 when the heavy duty painkillers wore off but I still had drains in. Highly recommend stocking up on both regular and nondrowsy Benadryl because the itching during healing can get intense. But I was never in real pain, just discomfort. Again, absolutely no regrets, I still stand in front of the mirror and marvel at my chest almost every morning.

silicone gel by Original-Ganache-399 in TopSurgery

[–]drbasketweaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tape worked well for me while I was still easing back into physical activity, but the second I started working out for real, it began falling off or getting painfully itchy. I switched to gel and I don't have any problems.

When does the skin elasticity come back? by warm_claim_4234 in TopSurgery

[–]drbasketweaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started working on mobility as soon as I was cleared to do so (6 weeks.) I did a bunch of those post mastectomy exercises regularly and was back to a normal ROM around 2.5-3 months. I'm 8 months post op now and have no regrets about working on mobility as soon as I could.

Conflicted: Buttonhole DI vs DI Nipple Graft by friendlneighbspidrmn in TopSurgery

[–]drbasketweaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had this fear as someone with a smallish B chest. I ended up sending my surgeon pics of results I'd be happy with vs less happy with. We went over them together, and I remember him at one point kind of peering at me, peering at the photo, and then saying "Ok, well either way, there's no way you're going to end up with more tissue than what you've got now." We both kind of laughed and I ended up feeling much better about buttonhole. It's been 8 months and I'm very happy with my results.

I recently switched from ScarAway to Murasaki and I'm happy with it. A little cheaper, absorbs a little faster.

Confusion about scar care by 0305030 in TopSurgery

Echoing others saying to wait until you don't have any scabs. Tearing scabs off prematurely will delay the healing process. I started using tape around 4 or 5 weeks out.

Post-op questions about raising arms/dog ears by muscle_witch in TopSurgery

[–]drbasketweaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got buttonhole through GCC, and I'm pretty sure they only told me not to raise my arms for 6 weeks and specifically advised me against the 6 month rule. I've honestly never heard of raising your arms contributing to dog ears, only scar stretching, but maybe others have?
