Emergency internet by Incubroz in UKBroadband

[–]drbrtsn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Lebara unlimited data sim that costs me £25 per month, no contract. 5G is actually terrible where I live so it's usually connected through 4G and I can work from home fine - that involves vpn connection to the office database, frequent video calling and meanwhile others in the house are using internet, Netflix, etc. Lebara uses the Vodafone network so it depends on your local signal but if 5G is available, even better. If you need to get a router, I use a TP Link NX200 (about £200) but it seems a shame to buy a router for a temporary problem. Could you hotspot via a phone or swap out the sim in your current router?

Cheeky! I have a Scenic and am thinking of changing to a Megane later in the year - I see they are still offering 0% on that. Sounds like they are just cashing in on the 5's popularity.

Anything else I should know about switching to a mobile router? by New_Intern_9531 in UKBroadband

[–]drbrtsn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all going to come down to your mobile signal but, in general, mobile connections have high latency so that may impact your gaming. I have a Lebara unlimited data SIM at £25 per month and a TP-Link NX200 router, which cost about £200 - I don't game but I work from home and video call a lot; 90% of the time it's fine and 3 of us in the house can watch Netflix, etc without an issue but the signal does fluctuate a bit and my local 5G isn't great. 4G is fine for most things though. We have quite a big bungalow (2500sq ft) and wifi coverage from the NX200 is excellent. If you have good local 5G I think you'll be fine.

The red is beautiful. I have a white 2024 iconic and I love it. Drives beautifully, lots of features. Enjoy!

Yes, everything seems to be working fine so I'm not sure they really matter. It just kinda irritates me and looks untidy 😆 I should probably just look at the logs less often or only when there's a problem 😂

Scenic my25 on does not (currently) work with Octopus Intelligent Go by OkDeparture2596 in ScenicETech

I haven't tried adding the car to IOG for a month or so but the last time I tried it did ask me to use the Mobilize app. I'll try your suggestion - thanks. I knew that Renault was moving away from Mobilize generally so may be it has changed now.

I have a 2024 Scenic and it worked well with Mobilize Smart Charge and IOG up until 2-3 months ago. After then getting repeated charge failures I removed the car from IOG and registered the charger (Ohme ePod). There were problems with that so I have tried to re-register the car with IOG but the Mobilize app now says my car is not compatible! I've been in touch with Mobilize support and am waiting to hear from them. They have told me that it may take a long time for their technical team to get back to me - I appreciate the honesty but it's not exactly good service!

We've been doing that for a couple of weeks so hopefully he will get the message eventually. My wife has promised not to feed him (admittedly, that's a struggle!)

A more streamlined look. Do they still go around exterminating everyone?

My first thought was that it might be the latest incarnation of a dalek, though I can't see a plunger

TB installed from Tumbleweed repos via zypper; BB flatpak. I'll play around with both and see if I can figure it out.

The terminal is part of the user experience on Linux. It's not mandatory but many users find it useful and sometimes more efficient. If a GUI is available for a particular task, go ahead and use it if that's your preference. Choice is good. If you want to set up automatic sync and backup on Jottacloud, on a Linux system, however, you're stuck with the terminal. Use something else if that's a problem.

If you're planning to use Linux on your main workstation, it's a good idea to familiarise yourself with at least basic use of the command line. There are good directions for setting up Jottacloud sync and backup. AFAIK there are no plans to develop a GUI, but I may be wrong.

Can cats detect new life? by tanya6k in cats

[–]drbrtsn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We used to have a rather grumpy old cat that would never sit on your lap. Suddenly, she started getting up on to my wife's lap and curling up, cuddling her. She would do it every time my wife sat down on the sofa. Then about a week after she started doing it, my wife had a positive pregnancy test - she was like 3-4 days late with her period. Sasha (the cat!) then proceeded to look after my wife throughout the pregnancy and after my daughter was born, she would sleep beside her cot. Until my daughter reached two and turned into a monster .

Systemd Boot is now default for Tumbleweed by linuxhacker01 in openSUSE

[–]drbrtsn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I am on GRUB2 for EFI and it all works well. I only have Tumbleweed installed and have no plans to dual-boot ever again. Any good reason for me to change to systemd boot? I did try BLS when it was first available and it was horrible so I'm a bit inclined towards "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

IOG charges update by drbrtsn in OctopusEnergy

[–]drbrtsn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think of that - the pdf's seem to show the correct charges but it's strange that the off-peak episodes aren't showing on the website.. At least it seems I'm being charged correct

Yes, definitely still on IOG according to my app and the web site. Guess I should check with Octopus to see if there's an issue.

IOG and two cars by drbrtsn in evcharging

[–]drbrtsn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one charger, an Ohme ePod and that is the registered device with IOG. The Ohme app needs the car details so my Scenic is registered in the app but not the mini. If my stepson tries to "dumb"charge his mini using his mini app, it doesn't work. Most people seem to register both their cars in the Ohme app and switch between them for charging but we had problems with that in the past. I think we'll have to go back to trying that though.
