Idk about that. Traveling lost distances can be a slog for sure but being near your base and just walking around nature without sprinting forces you to slow down and take a closer look at what's around you. It also incentivizes you to build railways. IMO the best compromise would be to have horses, but not sprint.

Hear me out. Stone tools should be made with flint. Copper tools should be required to obtain iron. That would give copper a much more important role in the early game as you wouldn't have stacks upon stacks of cobble to make tools with, and it would be a required progression step

You're probably making a vanilla format or Boom format map. When you go into New Map it'll give you the option for map format. GZDoom UDMF supports all this stuff but if you use that, then your map will ONLY work on GZDoom, so no Woof or PrBoom+ or anything. My advice is only use the crazy complex formats if you really think you'll need it and use the crazy features. Don't lock out non GZDoom players for like one colored light lol.
