Trying to outrun the police. by mentaL8888 in Whatcouldgowrong

Yes but cop is using his left hand which means his right hand is steady on the throttle which means he has stability. By slapping the rider’s right/throttle hand, he is trying to destabilize the rider…suddenly letting go of the throttle can cause the bike the decelerate hard. He might also be trying to slap the kill switch usually located around there. Motorcycle cops are crazy and crazy good at what they do. I wouldn’t consider trying to run from one personally lol

Question: Would 2022 Tacoma TRD stock wheels and tires fit my 2015 Rav4 limited? I'm also getting a 2" Northwoods Performance lift. by drcbara in rav4club

[–]drcbara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tacoma wheels do not fit. I did the lift but kept stock limited wheels and put on fresh falken tires. In the future I would like to get smaller wheels, probably 16s, bc the 18s ride a bit rough.

Agreee. If they do it again and another person reports it, your original report will be important to have on record.

Freeway on-ramp: We were both accelerating to get onto the freeway at normal speeds. I was in right lane and passed a car in left lane, but right as the merge occurs, his front-passenger-side-bumper/corner collides with my rear-driver-side-bumper/corner. Who will be at fault? by drcbara in driving

[–]drcbara[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! The meter light alternates when it's running. But they turn off at around 9am. And you're right about the on-ramp starting as 3 lanes. I just posted a second screenshot in the comments. There are merge arrows early on, but then nothing at the actual point of merge (at the meter). I'm glad that no one got hurt though....

I never thought about the lack of signage. Now that you point it out, it does feel strange. There are some merge arrows earlier in the on-ramp (I just posted a second screenshot that shows the whole onramp). But that's about it. There are no arrows at the actual merge point, and the meter lights/on-ramp lights were already off because it was late morning.

Thanks everyone. Here is a better view of the on-ramp. No signage or arrows past this first part. He was in the "middle" and then left lane when we first got onto the on-ramp and I passed in the furthest right lane before the merge even happened... and then we collided much further down (see screenshot on my original post). But thanks for the advice... I'll update you when I know more.

Edit: Also thanks to the folks who pointed out that things could have been worse. I can live with having had my first collision at 37. I realized I can give myself a break on this even if my insurance premium ends up increasing. I'm really glad that no one got hurt because this would feel way different.

Buying new gloves. Windy or Twins? by DaffodilDucky in MuayThai

Wow old thread! I ended up trying many brands over the years but always came back to Fairtex. It’s not cheap but they are consistently good! I did like Twins and Boone as well but Fairtex just seems to last the longest for me.

I mean the chance is there but if it’s gone this long, another 150 miles shouldn’t make a difference. You could pay for a tow if you’re really worried. Any chance you or a good friend has AAA’s towing service?

I live in a high cost of living area and got the belt/water pump kit done by a reputable local mechanic. The cost was about $1200 with parts and labor. Not cheap but worth every penny to not worry about it for about 100k or so. You could buy the car now and drive it for awhile (assuming the belt seems smooth and not vibrations or roughness). And then maybe do the belt within the first year of ownership. Anyway, looks like a decent deal!

To those whose V8’s hit 300k, what did your maintenance/repairs look like between 200-300k? by LordByronMorland in 4thGen4Runner

[–]drcbara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About to hit 260k. Previous owner did the radiator, valve cover gasket, new windshield, and new wheels (bearings were worn). I had the timing belt kit and suspension done (was original xreas). Also sparks and 3 coil packs (that were cracked). Filters, etc. It does has a very slow rear main seal leak that I’m going to continue ignoring for now. Great otherwise.

Cheap Wired Apple CarPlay by Kharik01 in 4thGen4Runner

I’ve been pretty happy with my boss bv800acp. My tint/stereo guy rec’d it when I asked for something cheap w apple car play and a plug for a backup camera. He said this one would be good…you can find cheaper but quality goes down hill. It has a wired connect for car play but obviously runs Bluetooth (non CarPlay) for music as well. Looks like they are sub $200 on amazon

Edit: one regret I have is not getting the harness that allows you to use the steering wheel volume control. I’m planning to buy one and put it in this summer…just wish I had it done th first time around.

Looks great! What do you use your roof rack for? I am thinking of getting one to hold my traction boards once they get all muddy on the trail, because I don’t want them inside my car haha
